EXTRA SUGAR EXTRA SALT EXTRA OIL AND MSG Can anyone guess?
What happens if you put MSG on Shit?
Salty shit? :v:
No evidence, eh? http://www.worldwidehealthcenter.net/articles-445.html
No evidence, eh? http://www.worldwidehealthcenter.net/articles-445.html
Using that as a source is the equivalent of using a pro-bible Christian website to research evolution. Show me a few scientific journals and maybe I will reconsider using MSG.
I'm proud of you, boy.
I scrolled down and found yours, after I saw this: Same image  Anyways, why use a knockoff while you can use the real thing: 100% NaCl? My God, Dave was right, it is full of stars(MSG): C5H8NNaO4 (Numbers are subscript, ok?)
I thought about this a while ago. Where is all the evidence that it is so dangerous for you in amounts that it would be in with food.
Cool, I like salty stuff, need to get me some MSG at the supermarket :c00l:
EXTRA SUGAR EXTRA SALT EXTRA OIL AND MSG Can anyone guess?
Do you have a headache or a heartbreak?
MSG alone has a very meaty taste to it. It tastes completely different than table salt. It is however, chemically speaking, a salt; it is a salt based from glutamic acid. I would personally try to avoid to use it in conjunction with table salt due to it's already high sodium content, however many processed foods and packaged foods use them in conjunction. Too much sodium in a diet can lead to many problems, from less severe such as muscle cramps and possibly dizziness to the more severe such as high blood pressure, hardened arteries and sometimes an electrolyte imbalance which can be lethal. But then again, sodium is not the only substance in food that you can "overdose" on. Many vitamins and minerals also can produce lethal effects if you have too much in one sitting. What I am trying to say is that there is nothing to worry about when using MSG as long as you use it in moderation. Also, chocolate does have salt in it. In fact, every baked good you eat has salt in it. Besides acting as a texture enhancer for the dough, leveling out the chemical reactions from the yeast in the dough leading to a more consistent leveling, allowing a longer shelf life (for moist pastries at least), etc. It also helps enhance the sweet flavor due to it's contrast to sweetness. I don't see why people are rating me disagree in the OP, I am an amateur chef, albeit still learning, I do know a good deal about food products and cooking.
Only reason I'm gonna disagree with you about the electrolyte imbalance is that to have that much electrolytes in your system, you'd need much more than 1 meal with MSG. Either that, or you're really dehydrated when you eat the meal. Either way, since it's not much saltier than salt, salt could lead to the same thing.
Using that as a source is the equivalent of using a pro-bible Christian website to research evolution. Show me a few scientific journals and maybe I will reconsider using MSG.
The sources and references of scientific studies and articles cited at the bottom of the page are obviously full of shit then, y'know because doctors who research things are idiots. Next you'll be telling me that aspartame isn't linked to brain damage and there's no mercury in innoculations. Wow, how stupid do I feel?
I use it to make potato salad.
My dad is allergic to MSG. Whenever he eats a food with it he starts foaming at the mouth and his throat closes up. Scary shit.
Only reason I'm gonna disagree with you about the electrolyte imbalance is that to have that much electrolytes in your system, you'd need much more than 1 meal with MSG. The thing with MSG is that it does not contain more sodium than salt. In fact, as I said before, MSG contains LESS sodium than salt by volume.
My dad is allergic to MSG. Whenever he eats a food with it he starts foaming at the mouth and his throat closes up. Scary shit.
Does he carry an epipen on him or does he just avoid food with MSG? [editline]05:45PM[/editline]
It does in fact have 60 percent sodium than salt,
Yeah I misread this.
MSG stimulates receptors in your brain or some complicated shit. It's basically a drug that makes food better. In soviet russia, there used to be cubes of msg that people put in chicken broth and it would taste great. Problem is, constant usage led to hypertension and other high sodium problems.
Does he carry an epipen on him or does he just avoid food with MSG? [editline]05:45PM[/editline] Yeah I misread this.
I'd imagine both. Generally people with food allergies try to avoid the allergens in the first place, but if that fails for some reason, they have an epipen or two on them.
I'd imagine both. Generally people with food allergies try to avoid the allergens in the first place, but if that fails for some reason, they have an epipen or two on them.
Yeah I made a mistake, everyone with a food allergy stays away from what they're allergic to. I meant to say does he trust his judgement enough to not need an epipen.
If you honestly need to use MSG to make your food taste good, stop cooking.
If you honestly need to use MSG to make your food taste good, stop cooking.
What if it will make it taste better?
If you honestly need to use MSG to make your food taste good, stop cooking.
It's like adding salt to something you want salty, and sugar to something you want sweet, you add MSG to something you want umami, get out.
EXTRA SUGAR EXTRA SALT EXTRA OIL AND MSG Can anyone guess?
That really annoying song from JSRF?
Using MSG causes cancer. I read that somewhere. Well no I didn't, but I was trying to make a point.. :3:
It's like adding salt to something you want salty, and sugar to something you want sweet, you add MSG to something you want umami, get out.
No, you add MSG if what your food has no flavor. My whole family is made up of cooks, my uncle is a private chef, my mom and dad are caterers, and my grandparents used to own a restaurant in New Jersey. MSG just makes you want the food more, if you can't do that with regular spices, you shouldn't at all.

Just because it's MSG it makes everyone frightened. MSG is found naturally in soy sauce, meats, and other stuff.

It is used as a food additive and is commonly marketed as a flavour enhancer.
