Nice weapon you have there, mate. How on earth do you slice yourself open and not notice? :monocle:
I tore my leg open on a barbed wire fence a few years back and didn't realise it for like 3 or 4 minutes. It was only when I noticed that my leg felt wet and I looked down did I realise what had happened. THEN the pain kicked in. It doesn't hurt when I don't know about it, but noooooo, the second I notice a huge gash in my leg the pain has to kick in.

? bad or good
Bad because he wasted $100
He bought it off a friend. So how much are Katanas usually?
So how much are Katanas usually?
Dunno.

so how much are katanas usually?
dunno.
ಠ_ಠ
that is some clean ass wallpaper you got going there buddy.
I thought he made a harakiri. What a dissappointment.
I once had a haunted Scottish longsword, but some muscly Australian threatened to beat me to a pulp if I didn't sell it to him. I wonder what he did with that sword. :sigh:
He bought it off a friend. So how much are Katanas usually?
I got a genuine set of three for $30. Sharpened and functional as well. It comes with the regular sized one, half sized, and a very short blade. And my friend got a replica of Sephiroth's sword for $100. Sharpened and functional(if you can fucking wield it. It's 7 feet long and almost impossible to hold up). Waste of money in my opinion. Sephiroth is lame. But yeah, $100 for a single katana is a rip off. People who say "You have to spend a lot of money to get a real one" are lying.

Fuck your katana. I got me one of these.
Hey we have the same speakers, awesome. [editline]10:17AM[/editline]
So...uh...how would the sword be if it was malfunctional?
Blunt and brittle i assume.
This convinced me to go buy an 18" short sword :D [editline]10:38AM[/editline] On ebay
So you were wondering what other bladed ornaments facepunchers have Proj3ct_ZeRo? I just wish I could find my 'surprise' knife. Oriental styled and completely cheaply made, if I swung my hand in a certain motion the blade flies away from the hilt, making it a continuous close-range and one shot long-range weapon (for self-defence of course :c00l: ).
Hey all, just thought I would share with you this funny little story of what happened to me today. I went to the markets with my missus my mate and his missus also. Me and my mate split up with the girls for a bit and we went and had a look at the weapons stall. I was interested in purchasing a katana for my room, I plan to mount it above my PC it will look good. Anyway while I was looking through the various knives and swords the asian guy who owned the stall was showing this US Assasin knife to a customer, as he pulled it out of the sheath he sliced his hand open, he didnt even feel it and only noticed when he saw the blood dripping from his hand we all thought it was pretty funny. Anyway here is the sword I bought, its pretty nice its simple full sized two handed and I like the look of it. It will suit my room quite nicely. I thought maybe some people could post the various knives and swords they own? just to see what crazy stuff is out there in the facepunch community :P
You failed to connect to Steam...
Wow. Disappointing thread. I thought the guy would be showing you the sword you were gonna buy and start waving it around and cut himself in half.
Wow. Disappointing thread. I thought the guy would be showing you the sword you were gonna buy and start waving it around and cut himself in half.
The thread title is a tad bit misleading, but it's probably to draw more people in to read it just because of the title.
You bought the katana precisely for what's it's built for, hanging on a wall. I'd strongly suggest against trying any cutting or swinging around with it, swords that look so much like the usual decorative pieces made are usually made of stainless steel, composite, glue, cheap alloys and other materials that don't work in sword sizes. If the blade itself doesn't snap (unlikely because they're stamped from a bill of steel and are ridiculously thick) then the handle or the peg(s) holding the blade in it's place are very likely to crack and send the blade flying after few swings. But anyway congrats on the purchase, collecting swords is an awesome hobby. If you ever want to get more there are reasonably priced "functional" swords that iaido hobbyists and other sword enthusiast trust and call "decent cutters", as in they'll never break if you have some common sense, and they have the plus of looking really authentic as far as (relatively) cheap swords go. Cheness is a great brand, you can get their swords for like $150 and the build quality, sharpness and looks will far surpass any decorative piece. Paul Chen/Hanwei is an older, a bit more expensive brand but great too. Kris Cutlery is nice, Cold Steel (expensive and untraditional, but hot), Last Legend, Dynasty Forge, and some others but I guess that's all I can remember in the budget price range. Just FYI so you wouldn't hurt yourself, OP :3 I happened to find a low-res pic of my first proper katana from another forum, it's the Paul Chen Practical Katana I've wrapped in the hiramakizuka-tsukamaki style. It ships with the standard diamond style handle wrap but I forgot the name of it, here's what it looks like afterwards. A decent milk jug slicer, alright. Plus it looked like the blade was welded to the handle.
you have the same speakers as me :v:

Is it just me, or is that image broken? Also, that guy must have faked it... Who slices their hands open with no reaction?
Would the same happen with an 18" shortsword? I just ordered it and it wasn't listed as nearly an inch thick. Plus it looked like the blade was welded to the handle.
Welded to the handle sounds an awful lot like "rat-tail tang" where the blade has a really thin extension into the handle, and it's welded or screwed into the pommel of the handle. Welding is not an optimal form of construction as it messes up with the heat treatment of the blade (if any). And yes, a shortsword is still too big to work like a big knife. See the blade has an awful lot of mass when compared to a knife, so the same technologies just don't work. I can dig you up a very old thread that shows how cheaply are cheap non-brand swords made if you're interested. I edited the message you quoted to include some recommendations of good brands if you want something you can swing with peace in mind :3
Owning swords doesn't make you cool it makes you creepy.

Also yeah these are pretty popular speakers, and my net was playing up when I took the pic XD.
OP, here is the Anatomy of a "wallhanger" thread on Sword Forum International. It's old but decorative swords are still exactly the same.
