Yeah, it had issues with documentation and I'm not sure whether they were fixed or not. It would at least explain why most games on the engine are absolute ass.
Mechwarrior Online uses it, but because its environments are fairly flat and you happen to be in stories high robots the assets don't need to be extremely detailed. Even so I think cryengine has very bad Occlusion culling which is why most games on it require high-end machines.

Crysis 2 can be run on a shitload of machines, actually. Just lower the settings a bit, and it still looks stunning. But it's clear that other devs than Crytek themselves haven't had much luck in using the engine. (with exceptions, of course)

Apparently the game has culling problems and in a SNIPING GAME enemies despawn after like, 300 meters.
The game which the devs claim "no worry, we're certainly going to improve a lot in the next game" everytime. And somehow we're on game 3, we shouldn't give them any attention. That's probably what's keeps them going.
Company that used to make shitty games sold in newspaper stands made a shitty game. Woah.
I dont know if you guys know this, but their stocks had dropped down by 30% after the release (and reception) of the game Like, wow how do you fuck up this bad
Like, wow how do you fuck up this bad
By making another Sniper: Ghost Warrior game.
Developer CI Games has previously spoken about the game's multiplayer - several maps for it are included in the game's season pass. But play the game today and you'll find it's not included. Instead, multiplayer modes will be released via an update at some point in the future. "CI Games, throughout our development of Sniper Ghost Warrior 3, we have had two focus [sic]," a statement from the studio passed to Eurogamer reads. "The first is to provide the best possible single player experience in our most ambitious game in the Sniper Ghost Warrior series to date. This has always been our goal and we are extremely proud of all the work we have done, and that we share with you. The second emphasis from us is to provide regular content updates post launch, focusing on content that enhances the gaming experience. "Therefore, we have chosen to release the multiplayer update (that will be free for our players) after launch (the third quarter of 2017) for precisely the above reasons, that is not to dilute any potential from the single player experience."
Amazing http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017-04-25-sniper-ghost-warrior-3s-multiplayer-mode-isnt-in-the-game-at-launch
This reminds me how awhile back I packed S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat full of mods and could basically go take a nap while it loads.
i bet the performance ingame is still p shit as well
I mean for fuck's sake the game lagged every time I scoped in during the beta, in a game called Sniper Ghost Warrior. I can't help but feel this is just par for the course of "yeah we decided to use Cryengine for our game"
Why does anyone else other than CryTek use their engine? Every time it always ends up running not that great.
Why does anyone else other than CryTek use their engine? Every time it always ends up running not that great.
I almost wonder if Crytek aggressively seeks out anyone starting up development projects to shove the engine onto them, and then leave them out to dry when those developers don't quite know what they're in for.
Why does anyone else other than CryTek use their engine? Every time it always ends up running not that great.
Because they literally never documented the engine, and from what I recall its actually as bad as Source is at this point about being duck taped together, except it started that way and simply got worse.
Because they literally never documented the engine, and from what I recall its actually as bad as Source is at this point about being duck taped together, except it started that way and simply got worse.
Documentation is apparently bad for indie devs, but don't forget that some devs do actually use it well.
Why does anyone else other than CryTek use their engine? Every time it always ends up running not that great.
CryTek has had massive money problems for a few years now. Whatever sucker they can get to latch on, they ain't gonna get in the way of.
Documentation is apparently bad for indie devs, but don't forget that some devs do actually use it well.
I can't recall any instance where it was used well that Crytek wasn't involved in either the development or significant support. Basically it seems to only be good if you defer to Crytek.
You would think Sniper Elite being good fun and semi popular would make you actually try to make your own sniper game at the very least functional, let alone any good.
I don't know why every time there's a new CI game, people forget how shit they are. All they do is make terrible shooters on no budget and then promote the shit out of them to rake in as much cash as possible. Scummiest cunts out.
The best games by CI (or City Interactive, but they'd prefer people forget that) are: Enemy Front, a fun CoD2 clone which gets by primarily by being the only WWII fps released this side of 2010. It also has long load times and the AI is simple but it's probably their best made game. Lords of the Fallen, a Norse 'inspired' fantasy game with heavy influence from the Souls games. It's very short and focuses on heavy weapons to the extreme, but it also had some decent ideas of its such as charging attacks for extra damage at the cost of more stamina (later used by the Souls games) and timing your combos to reduce the stamina used in each successive hit. Though LotF was made by Deck 13 and only published by CI Games.
Isn't this the same company that made all those other Sniper games that are in the shovelware bargain bins in every store that sells games? I'm pretty sure it is and it makes me wonder why anyone would bother reviewing actual shovelware. [editline]26th April 2017[/editline] Let alone how any hype at all can be made when you have a company with thrilling and well optimized titles like Sniper Ghost Warrior and Sniper Ghost Warrior 2
Cryengine is a great, highly versatile engine. That said -- it's not that there's "documentation issues", it's that there's literally no meaningful documentation. CIG is using it for Star Citizen and like 3/4 of the development time so far has been reverse engineering and rewriting huge chunks of the engine so they can document it.
This reminds me how awhile back I packed S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat full of mods and could basically go take a nap while it loads.
On my old Windows XP computer it took so long to load Garry's Mod (along with all of the addons I downloaded) that I could usually walk away and watch an episode of a TV show while I waited. God help me if the game crashed immediately after loading.
Now I remember where this game is from. It's the guys who didn't know about bullets. :v:
I'm British and know nothing about guns but this made me choke
