That's the way to live. Ignorance is bliss.
what, how? you've NEVER seen a cockroach?
Does it really surprise you that some people in an international forum haven't seen a cockroach before?
It's not like they live everywhere.
Don't roaches only come around if your house is a total mess? Food left out, trash on the floor, etc?
Not true our apartment is kept very clean unfortunately we're connected to other apartments that I cannot vouch for.
this is why you buy filters / a case with filters
I'm actually amazed that anyone WOULDN'T buy a filter
I'd say the best way to keep your PC pest-free is to have a transparent window and clean it semi-regularly.
Filters aren't a guarantee because the disgusting little crawlies usually find a way to get into places you wouldn't imagine as you've seen above, but if the inside is kept lit they should naturally avoid it.
Living somewhere where there's barely any cockroaches I can say I've never even considered this issue.

In my experience, roaches can be a regional norm. We have a lot of them in this part of Texas, though keeping your house clean might keep them back a bit. It's not unusual for one or a few to show up.
Roaches are a common thing here in Florida as well. A messy and dirty house just makes it easier for them to lay nests everywhere which leads to those extreme cases, otherwise even a clean house is bound to get a roach every once in a while.
God, cockroaches are fucking disgusting. Reminds me of the yearly purge we used to have done in our house in the Middle-East. Men would come and sprain all the drainage holes around the garden and house with pesticide, and Jesus. Fucking. Christ. It was like the Cockroach Rapture: they'd come pouring out by the hundreds from all the drainage holes. We'd seal the indoor ones so they didn't all come running out into our house, but the garden was horrifying.
Something intensely nauseating watching so many come running out of somewhere you never even thought they'd live in such huge numbers. Then they all die after like 5 mins and there's just a swarm of dead roaches that need to be disposed of.
One time, my dad and I stayed in a motel in California and the cockroaches were god damn massive. Made me sick just thinking those things can be crawling around me whilst I sleep.
This thread makes me happy since cockroaches are really rare in Sweden.

about that...

also worth mentioning

so basically no device with enclosed and dark warm space is safe
I'm quite glad that cockroaches are a bit of a rarity in the UK, I've only ever seen two in my lifetime so far.
However I will say I have seen cases of woodlice and silverfish being in electronics.
Cockroaches are super common here and they're pretty gross and annoying, especially during the summer. If we don't set up traps or ward them off with bug spray every night we sometimes wake up with some itchy bites on our legs or arms. Typically roaches look like these here:

Luckily though I never actually experienced anytime with them chilling inside electronics and the likes. They usually are instead on cracked bathroom tiles or nearby the entrance door.

cockroaches though? thats weird af
what the fuck man
Such is life in the Middle East, bro. Gotta do the yearly cleanse or they end up invading the house instead of just sticking to the drains.
tbh another reason PC is better: No cockroackes in my PC.
I used to work as a PC technician, and as I removed the side panel of one that was suffering from heat issues I found that it was not only riddled with dust, but also had this huge spider chilling in a web right above the GPU. Must've thought it was a really warm and cozy spot, can't imagine it had much luck catching prey though.
Also I've never seen a cockroach, and wasn't sure they even exist here. Apparently they do, but the ones we've got much prefer their natural habitat out in the forests and don't really venture into people's homes
Living in Florida, I can attest that no matter how clean you keep things, they WILL find a way in. Especially if you live out in the wood.
Sometime recently an Xbox one was brought to my computer tech class for repair. Open it up, and it was COATED in tobacco tar and ash and had dead cockroaches in it. I suggested we burn it, and make the guy get a new one instead.
Man I got paranoid when I found out they can infest in my PC, but then I remember my PC has LED lights that if not for the window and metal covering it would hurt your eyes if you stared into it. So I don't think they'd like living in there very much :v:

While you're not wrong, they can still hang out in the power supply. There are nooks and crannies you wouldn't expect them to be in that you will find them in. Laptops can hold a lot of them, like, more than you'd honestly think. If they have to get squished down to fit in a 4mm gap they'll spend all their time like that if it means having a home.
EDIT
And it's entirely possible for roaches to not scatter or avoid light. It depends on their breed, but the smell that is associated with them is a pheremone that's intended to attract other roaches to the location. If you ever see an area where a majority of the roaches do NOT scatter, then there's a serious problem. That means the nest has grown large enough and has gone on long enough for the roaches that come crawling out at night to leave a strong enough scent on the ground for them to ignore some basic instincts. Despite the light, they still think it's their home.

Bit late on this, but boric acid is dirt cheap, and kills roaches very effectively. Buy a bunch at your hardware store, and put perimeters around everything.

Man I'm glad you told me, let's me be more careful! Luckily around here roaches are more of a extremely messy house type thing, it's not common unless your house has food strewn about everywhere.
I've never seen roaches (or any bug) in actively used electronics before, but I did once get an old PS2 slim out of a storage box it had been in for many years to find a couple dead roaches in the disc tray (and probably inside as well, but I never opened it to check)
Oh my god this entire thread made me so paranoid
All my electronics have cockroach families in them, don't they
please let me live in blissful ignorance again

Generally, no. If you haven't ever seen one in your house at all then chances are you don't have any. They are mostly outdoor types of insects and would rather eat decaying plants and other organic matter. They only migrate indoors when they have to seek somewhere warm. Dirty houses are more likely to have them because when they move in, they see a treasure trove of free food so they make it their nest. Spotting one single roach isn't really a problem, I mean it's something I'd expect if you live in an area that has them.
I live in the midwest and just because I might see a field mouse or two scurrying across the floor does not necessarily mean I have a nest of field mice somewhere, just to be expected.
Like I said before, the smell that cockroaches give off when they are in large numbers is the real telling sign that you have a problem. You will smell them. The best way to describe it is a kind of strong, musty odor. It's a very unique smell and it will be something you've never smelled before.
This thread has motivated me to clean my room and everything i own.

Just pretend that they're what makes the console run, they're inside there making sure things are working and sending the right information to the right places....
Someone just make a compilation of this guy saying "Cock"
