[sp] Movie was great but I wasn't a fan of how each of the super cool suits that fly in at the end get about 7 seconds of screen time each, some of those were really interesting suits and then they just get dismissed and exploded, kind of a bummer if you wanted to see more of the brand new designs

I especially liked [sp]'Igor' I think he was called? The beefy suit. Loved that guy.[/sp]
Alright just saw it, here comes my fac- opinion:
The good:
- RDJs acting, as always
- Everyone else's acting
- Some tech porn
- [sp]When he's without his armour[/sp]
The bad:
- [sp]Unless I missed it, no explanation for extremis at all.[/sp]
- [sp]Exploding volcano men. Fine, we get enough energy to level a country from food we eat daily if we could convert it to energy efficiently enough, but this was still nanobots. Heat would have been fine but melting through his armour and breathing fire?[/sp]
- [sp]Armours were kinda useless. They could barely take one magmabeast. He took a tank shell without much damage in IR1, but now he can't take measly bursts of 3000C?[/sp]
- [sp]Mandarin was just an actor, lessened by his performance though.[/sp]
- [sp]Saved by magmabeast girlfriend, come on really?[/sp]
- Oh and [sp]WAAAAAYYYY too little screentime for all the suits.[/sp]

I pretty much agree with all this.
I've seen reviews saying it was better than Avengers or on par with Dark Knight or the best Marvel super hero film ever made. But it was just good. Iron Man 1 and Avengers were better.
I know it's not a popular opinion but I really liked Thor. Probably equally to this. If I had to make a list it would be:
Avengers
Iron Man
Iron Man 3 - Thor
Captain America
Hulk
Iron Man 2

Definitely not on par with TDK or IR1 (for me). You swap around Avengers for IR1 in that list and you pretty much got my list (though I'd rank IR2 higher).
What I'm kinda irritated about is that the "Tom Clancy-like tech thriller" went out the window for a pretty standard action flick (more brains than usual, but I would not equate it to Clancy, at all). I think the [sp]Extremis nanobots could have been handled A LOT better and in a way more fitting of IR rather than making them Albert Wesker after eating too much Thai.[/sp]
Again I think it would have been much better if they had gone with a military-tech thriller, possibly a war between US and Russia/China/some conglomerate/EU even who's gotten their hands on Stark reactor tech. Heck or even just that they invented their own tech (better handled nano-robotics, antimatter reactors, anything a bit grounded in reality) and have plenty of military hardware and gadgets porn where Tony fights alongside NATO against an actual army.
got completely destroyed all the time.
also, what was killian's goal? money? power?
He wanted the Vice President in power, who he had wrapped around his thumb because the vice's daughter was an amputee. Plus it would also get him the funding he needed for Extremis.
I think one thing that a lot of people haven't noted on is how the soundtrack in this one is so much worse than IM/IM2/Avenegers. When I saw it the second time I was looking out for more of the soundtrack and focused on it and it just didn't feel that great.
Also [sp]The terrorist group (The Ten Rings) in Iron Man 1 is the same as the group used in this film, so has Killean always controled them? Did he hire them or steal their name at some point?[/sp]

I definitely noticed the lack of ACDC and such.

Gonna see it again this week (separate friend circles, and forgotten promises that have to be kept when you already had planned to go with others), will be good for refined opinion, but as of now I think IR2 ranked higher for me than 3.
That film was so fucking great!!
IM3 Spoilers (best joke in the movie) [sp]It absolutely floored me when the random henchman held up his gun and yelled "WAIT WAIT ... I hate it here anyway they are so weird"[/sp] :v:
Laughed for like the next 5 minutes
Not far off there [sp] when Killian breathed fire next to the.... War Machine lead guy (forgot his name!)
And his reaction was hilarious "Oh, you breath fire?! Okay, okay, that's fine![/sp]
So far, the movie has a more profitable overseas weekend opening than compared to The Avengers
A mulletwearing Tony Stark would have been awesome.

The [sp]fire people were a bit annoying (overpowered)[/sp], but I suppose that let [sp]pepper save the day (twice), which was quite fun[/sp]

[sp]The moment she was injected though I saw it coming[/sp]
Does anyone know what the song is called that played during the [sp]scene where tony hugs pepper and all the suits explode like fireworks?[/sp]
Thanks! I love the similiarity to the Avengers ending song:

Did everybody see RDJ on the Daily Show? He said he was in talks to renegotiate his contract and was hinting pretty heavily that he's looking to come back.
Iron Man 3 is likely still the last standalone Iron Man movie, but we'll probably see him in more Marvel Cinematic Universe films.
The China cut of the movie featuring an additional 4 minutes of footage has not been well-received. Citing blatant product placement, awkward and pointless scenes

[sp]GIANT TERMINATOR MARINE SUIT WHERE ARE YOU I NEED MORE SCREENTIME OF YOU[/sp]
I wanted [sp]Tony Stark to go into the different suits (I.E. the large terminator suit) at the end battle, it would have created more variety[/sp].
It was solid. Not amazing or mind blowing but solid.
It also had jack shit to with the original Extremis storyline other than the dude's name. Literally.
Nice cameo at the end too.
Just a good badass (expensive) popcorn flick.
Loved Stan Lee's cameo. 10/10
Good movie. I thought it was kinda weird tho how [sp]Tony had all those variety of suits. i mean i understand it was a "hobby" but it just seemed a little out of place.[/sp]

I really think after this phase the original avengers should have double movies.
Iron man + hulk
cap + thor
if they want to keep showing the original. Or just have them show up on the news or be mentioned by someone in the other movies.
Just got back from watching it.
Man. I loved it. There were definitely a few curveballs that I didn't see coming.

I musta missed it. What was it?

I'm guessing Phase 3 won't have any Iron Man as they got plenty of other things to be doing and Iron Man already has 3 films.
He can take a break.
[editline]3rd May 2013[/editline]
My guesses for Phase 3 based on comments from Marvel.
Hulk 2 (hinted based on how popular Hulk was)
Doctor Strange (script developed)
Ant Man (announced)
Ms Marvel (Rumours she was cast, plus they said Phase 3 will include a female superhero movie)
Guardians 2 (To fit with the cosmic feel)

... so?
... so?
Are you seriously asking that?
They've taken a very cool thing in the comic and made it into something entirely new and not nearly as cool. They should've just given it a new name.

That could be said about anything the movies ever adapted.
That's the key word here: adaption. Not "ripped straight from the comic".
