I noticed this was the first film in all the MCU with lady mooks, they're all supermooks but not hired goon-type ones.
So I caught this at an early screening (for the US) last night. My thoughts (spoilers beware, you shouldn't even be in this thread if you haven't seen it yet): You know, I'm not fully sure what to make of this movie. I think my main complaint would be that this film rode on the coattails of The Avengers more than it did the previous IM films, which makes sense seeing as this is Phase 2, but to me this film had almost no connection to IM1&2, and I think that reflected poorly on it. The plot was pretty good, the acting was really good all around and I think I can safely say that Don Cheadle > Terrence Howard for Rhodes, although Howard only had one film and I'm more familiar with Cheadle so that's probably a biased opinion. The CGI was pretty good for five companies pushing together to match ILM. I know people here were complaining about the color scheme of the new suit, but I thought it was pretty neat, reversing the traditional colors (not to mention all the different colors and designs of the Iron Legion). PLOT SPOILERS: [sp]The Mandarin setup was a straight "what the fuck did I just see?" I was really hoping that Kingsley would have pulled some magic shit on Tony, or at least had Extremis in him. Ben Kingsley was just essentially playing himself, but because he was so fantastic at it I was enjoying it. Also, I was kind of hoping that The Ten Rings would play out more other than being a symbol on television. I'm also still buzzing around as to why Killian would market terrorism, it seemed very silly to me. I understand that it was to profit Extremis, once finished, but it felt kind of tacky to me for some reason. Also, what the fuck was with the fire-breathing scene, I know it was in the comics, but why bother showing that only once and not reusing it? As I stated before, I completely understand as to why these things happened, I just don't think that they should have happened, or at least happened differently. While I'm not a huge fan of child actors, when they're done right they can be quite good (Spielberg films for example). The kids in this movie tended to go from one end of the spectrum (the good part in the restaurant with the little boy and girl) to the other end (the kid that helps Tony was up and down for me). That beginning was quite fantastic, btw. The post-credits scene wasn't what I thought it was going to be, either. I did actually think that Pepper had died, and had completely forgotten she was injected with Extremis. Then she came back and did the asskicking this time, a nice thing to see. Speaking of women, my god the actresses in this movie outdid the other two in terms of sexiness and actual acting prowess.[/sp] I think that ought to sum it up for me. Now, one aspect of these films that I've always loved was the technology that Tony had and nobody else did. The 3D mapping & computer design that he uses always just blows me away and all I want at that point is to walk into my basement and do that with this laptop. The music this time was good as well, Brian Tyler is quite the up-and-coming composer and has good variety in his works, and most certainly did a better job than John Debney. Still not Ramin Djawadi, but a huge step up. Overall, I need a second viewing before I can give an affirmative rating. 6.5-7/10 for now. I felt this way after seeing Captain America for the first time, but on a second viewing of that it became a lot better for me.
I musta missed it. What was it?
[sp]beauty pageant judge[/sp] [editline]4th May 2013[/editline]
That could be said about anything the movies ever adapted. That's the key word here: adaption. Not "ripped straight from the comic".
Except it's not even that, and what is was from taken barely resembles the comic either at all. [sp]the comic dealt with Mandarin using nanotech to take Stark down over series of events making extremely bad press for Stark-tech rehabilitation products, nowhere in it are magmapeople from a 70s horror movie. Extremis is a nanotech injection Stark took to make himself able to command his suit at literally the speed of thought and incidentally save his life, and the bomb storyline is from AIM subsidizing child terrorism with nanotech in east africa, which wasn't paticularly whimsical or "fun" [/sp] This is about as "based on" as Spider-man the musical was. The point of adaptation is taking source material and refining it for a larger audience or towards a goal. This storyline has nothing to do with that other than two names, and all you have to do is point to Green Lantern or X3 to see where "liberal adaptation" tends to suck. Lastly it was advertized as covering Extremis specifically to comic fans, which it does not. At all. Period.
I enjoyed the witty dialog a some of the characters/interaction between actors was funny. Two things I didn't like. At the end, I wasn't really sure what the Mandarin's goal was. Maybe I wasn't paying attention, but it just seemed like a bunch of lavamen beating each other up. Also, Tony was changing armor every five seconds. It made the marvelous piece of mechanical engineering seem like cheap junk you dispose of as soon it breaks apart.

Somebody already prolly mentioned this but [sp]Tony Stark is the emperor[/sp] :v:
What really turned me down was the amount of screen time Iron Patriot had. Like, fighting with Iron man screen time. [sp]Hell, even Pepper got more screen time in a suit than Rhodey.[/sp]
For those who didn't notice it, [sp]Tony gave his new suit the number 42. Watching the movie makes you realize that the suit solves all of his problems.[/sp]
The whole Extremis plot reminded me of inFamous 2 somethin' fierce.
Anyone get a Mass Effect vibe from Tony's outfit he was wearing most the movie? I mean it seriously looked like the stuff shepard and company wore underneath their armor in the original Mass Effect.
Just got back from it, [sp]hope they actually do something with all the suits because it seems like a waste to use all those designs for like 10 minutes and then just drop them[/sp] Also the main question on my mind is did Gwyneth Paltrow get a body double (at least for certain parts, she obviously had a stunt double) because if not she has incredible abs

This movie was awesome imo. There were a few plot "holes" that really irked me throughout it, for instance: [sp]the whole regenerative gene thing is utter bullshit. It would have made WAAAAAY more sense to just say "Oh, we found alien regen tech, but can't quite make it work". Then the whole glowing hotter than the sun thing would make sense. I mean for gods sake, there are actual aliens in this universe![/sp]

Just got back from the theatres, I really liked the movie.

I was really disappointed about how he had all these different awesome suits and they each got about 5 seconds screentime and the only one that actually used their special abilities were the Hulk Buster and Mk 42. The suits also felt incredibly fragile. In previous movies they were built like armored vehicles or even tanks and in this one one single punch from a glowing human fucking destroys the suit completely. Also, wasn't the Deep Space Suit teased too? I didn't see it anywhere :( Apart from all the suit related problems I really liked it though.
[sp]i thought the suits went down with the house in the intro we see a couple getting destroyed[/sp]
[sp]Mark 1 - 7 get destroyed. The other suits were all placed savely under the house. [/sp]
I think it's obvious that all of the other suits were there for toy purposes. They're gonna make a butt tonne of money off them.
I think it's obvious that all of the other suits were there for toy purposes. They're gonna make a butt tonne of money off them.
I know I'm going help them make them money. Pre-ordered a Iron Man 3 Hot Toys figure...because I've no life.
The movie had a different director and it really felt like it. And Tonys character was having a makeover, explained because of events in Avengers. So he had a near death incident and now has PTSD? He didn't have this when he was nearly killed in the first movie. I had higher expectations, especially after seeing movie posters where he is falling out of the skies with his horribly damaged Iron Man suit. [sp]There was so much potential, they just simply took some ideas and mashed them somehow together. They took the extremis storyline, replaced zeke stane with aldritch kilian, remade extremis from a mind controlling technology thing into a simple regenerate limbs and shoot fire out of your ass thing, and the mandarin was a simple joke. I expected a stronger opponent, and much more drama, maybe an opponent who really makes Tony frightened. Would have made good character developement. Have Mandarin wear 10 alien rings and make people worship him as divine being or something. Something Antitechnology. Tony Stark trusts technology in fighting baddies, what would happen if technology no longer works?[/sp]
^there's a difference in fighting your former business partner and going into space and seeing a huge alien army and gods within just a few days of each other.
