I liked it, I'd say it's about as good as the first Iron Man. I actually [sp]didn't mind the Mandarin twist, I actually liked how there was no way to spot it before it actally happened, but I can understand why people are pissed off (despite reading a lot of comics, I admit that I know very little about Mandarin, aside from his origin).[/sp] I also thought that [sp]the final part of the climax was a bit of a cop out. Like, this was the best act three out of any Iron Man movie BY FAR, but then in comes kung-fu action Gwenyth Paltrow to beat the big bad in 30 seconds. I woulda liked it if she became Rescue/Iron Maiden, reveal that Tony calibrated the suits to work for the both of them (maybe even built Pepper her own suit, just in case).[/sp] The acting and writing was great, I really like how much New York shook Tony up. The guys at the Cinema Snob website were right when they said that the Iron Man series is really good for showing how someone would ACTUALLY react to some crazy bullshit. Guy Pierce was awesome, as was Kingsley. I also really liked Rhody here a lot more than in Iron Man 2. I feel like they recaptured the chemestry RDJ had with Terrance Howard in the first one. The kid was okay. As for the post-credits scene, [sp]it was cute, but I would have preferred something that built up Thor or Cap. Or even better, GotG or Ant-Man. Maybe even ignore Tony altogether and just show some villians, maybe forshadow the Masters of Evil. I also thought that "Tony Stark will return..." was kinda curious. It didn't say WHERE he would return, just that he WOULD. So will he show up in Thor or Cap 2? Has he (Tony) quit being Iron Man (unlikely, since Shellhead makes mad bank)? Funny, I've got that same sense of "what the hell are they planning now?" that I did after Fury mentioned "the Avengers initiative".[/sp] Thor 2 looks awesome. Wondering if they'll kill off Jane Foster so Thor can show Sif his mighty hammer. [editline]5th May 2013[/editline] Also, it needed more AC/DC, but I give them mad props for reminding the world that the song of my childhood, "I'm Blue", still exists.

Also, Its more likely he'd return in GotG considering he's a member in the comics.[/sp]
hence the space suit
Thoughts on the movie: [sp]Overall, I liked it, but it was not as great as the first one, as some people claim. Definitely better than the second one. It actually felt like something was at stake this time around. Comedy was brilliant, and I didn't mind the Mandarin twist. Pacing was kind of weird, but it didn't suffer that much from it. It did however suffer from some plot holes, lack of explanation, and just plain stupidity in some parts. What was Extremis? Something about using a hole in the brain to further evolution and make things regenerate? Did Extremis come from the plant or did that also have a hole in its genes to fill in? Why did Extremis enable people to melt things, spew fire, and explode? Why did they get super strong and super fast? How did they do all this with a gene? Did Aldrich Killian have nothing better to do than create supply and demand through controlling terrorism and politicians? Did he expect to sell Extremis solely based on this? Why not to fight the aliens that everybody know about? Why were the suits so underpowered? Watching all the previous Iron Man suits all fly towards the ship was satisfying as fuck, but then they arrived and they weren't overpowered as balls. I really, really wanted that. Instead they were easily picked apart by the fire mutants. I understand that it would have made the climax less intense if they blew everything to bits, but they could easily make a convenient plot thing so that Tony couldn't call them in until later in the fight, and then have blown it to bits. And for what reason did Tony keep using Mark 42 throughout the movie? It clearly didn't work very well, I kept wanting him to change suit, and when it finally happened it got destroyed moments later. It's like they missed the fact that a core component of what makes Iron Man so cool, is the super awesome suit of overpowered that he has. There were barely any cool suit moments, it kept malfunctioning. I understand making him vulnerable, but he needs to be vulnerable and then get the suit and be awesome. The ending also felt like a super rushed way to tie everything together. Why would he have kept the shrapnel inside himself for so long if there was the technology to remove it? I also hoped Pepper died when she fell, but I didn't expect it to happen. It would genuinely have raised my opinion of the movie if they have had the balls to do it.[/sp]
I was really disappointed about how he had all these different awesome suits and they each got about 5 seconds screentime and the only one that actually used their special abilities were the Hulk Buster and Mk 42. The suits also felt incredibly fragile. In previous movies they were built like armored vehicles or even tanks and in this one one single punch from a glowing human fucking destroys the suit completely. Also, wasn't the Deep Space Suit teased too? I didn't see it anywhere :( Apart from all the suit related problems I really liked it though.
[sp] The Stealth suit and Deep Space suit were both there, so was the HulkBuster MK1 (see above) and the Golden Boy suit. Basically the only thing missing in his current iconography was the Extremis suit (irony) and the silver suit. [/sp]
Complete bullshit on the [sp]Mandarin plot twist, seriously complete bullshit[/sp]
I came back from my theater and I thought it was good, not really on par with the Avengers and 1. But definitely better than Iron Man 2. [sp]The whole Mandarin setup could of been much more than a scheme. Very disappointing when I found out The Mandarin was just an actor.[/sp] [sp]I wish they've could of come up with something WAY better than lava captain america clones, seriously. Even Hulk could have kick their asses but the suits themselves feel so underpowered. Not to mention the new suit felt weak(It was a prototype I know but still had to be better than the others)[/sp] Overall I liked it but the villains could have been better. The final showdown itself too.
I really enjoyed it but I also know nothing of the comics so that probably helped.

Either those things, which would all be fine to me, or it's a way of saying what Kevin Feige has been saying all this time, that if RDJ quits, they'll recast Tony similar to James Bond. Which is a terrible idea, imo.[/sp]
So uh, is this a plothole or what (BIG ASS SPOILERS) [sp]The guy playing Mandrian (Trevor I think?) said "woah woah woah man no one actually died! It was green screens and smoke and all that! The weapons are fake!" Didn't he shoot a guy in the back of the head when threatening the president?[/sp]
[sp]it was fake, he said it himself[/sp]
[sp]Just kinda trying to imagine how that could of been fake with him doing it live and blowing a guys brains out[/sp] Also why are people complaining about [sp]the suits[/sp] not getting that much screentime or being weak? [sp]It's seriously spelled out at the start of the movie that they're junk that Tony's been making wholesale and not testing at all. They're all shitty prototypes[/sp]
[sp]Just kinda trying to imagine how that could of been fake with him doing it live and blowing a guys brains out[/sp]
[sp]They never showed Thomas whatshisface after Trevor shot him. He was probably just an actor that went silent after the gun was fired. Also, Trevor was a really good actor. Why was he working for AIM when he should've been making bank in Hollywood?[/sp]

Tony really has to learn how to appreciate things. His house and cars has been blown like god knows how many fucking times. And he doesn't even give a shit.
Tony really has to learn how to appreciate things. His house and cars has been blown like god knows how many fucking times.
Complete bullshit on the [sp]Mandarin plot twist, seriously complete bullshit[/sp]
It's no different to what Batman Begins did. It's actually exactly the same. For example: I've seen crappy actors in Hollywood Amazing actors in amateur theatre.
^might want to fix up that spoiler tag
I actually really liked [sp]The Mandarin Twist, specifically because I couldn't forsee an actual plausible fight between him and Tony, considering the 'real' mandarin in the comics would just wipe the floor in any conflict.[/sp]
[sp]I thought it was great that they had the balls to take Iron Man's most famous villain and make him just a front. The philosophy behind it felt to me like a subtle jab at Kony 2012, the whole 'Anti-American Villain role that we can blame all that is bad in the world on'.[/sp]
Regarding the whole Mandarin thing, I think this video is a very nice insight on that aspect of the movie: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/the-big-picture/7231-The-Big-Spoiler-Iron-Man-3
I like that we got to see Tony being a badass without the suit
I don't usually agree with Spoony on reviews, but he pretty much describes my reaction to the movie- This has spoilers:
I liked it. Saw it today after seeing Star Trek (which I reckon was better) but it's probably my favourite Iron Man film. Only real downside I felt was that [sp]AIM felt a little characterless, if they'd had like, a more striking colour scheme like in the comics, I might've liked it more, but I dunno. Oh, and some of the suits at the end were a bit samey.[/sp] Other than that I enjoyed it. [sp]"That happens. No need to be a pussy about it."[/sp]
i enjoyed it but there were some things abkut it that were incredibly stupid my major complaint is [sp]that he just up and got rid of the shrapnel at the end. he jumped through hoops to make a new fucking element because his electromagnet was failing him in part 2. so if it was so easy to just remove the shrapnel why didnt he just do that in the first place? you cant just write away a major part of a character, especially one that has generated many of his major personal conflicts. it was a shitty thing to do for a "feel good" character development i dont mind the suits being shitty because he made them all under severe stress and they werent up to par because of that, it was pretty clearly outlined in the beginning and all his good suits got destroyed. i just feel the ending was horribly handled and makes no sense[/sp] [editline]9th May 2013[/editline] also i hate how this started development as a new direction for iron man and we just got more of the same not saying that its a bad thing but i was really looking forward to the switch of pace
Despite the direction they took, Robert Downing still owns and probably will see the next one he is in regardless of the weird direction they took with this ending.
Saw it last night. I'll be honest, through most of the first half, I didn't like the movie. It had its good moments, but it wasn't ending up worth while, but then the last half picked up and made me enjoy the film. Complaints: [sp]The first Extremis fight in Tennessee. For some reason, I didn't like it. It felt off.[/sp] [sp]The Mandarin Twist. Mostly because of the implication that this extreme villain was a fake got to me.[/sp] Also, the CGI at some points felt really lacking for Iron Man. Compliments: [sp]The Mandarin Twist. Although I didn't like the implication behind it, it was pretty funny.[/sp] Seriously, the humor in this film is pretty top notch. The Final Showdown I thought was pretty nice as well. Yeah, better than Iron Man 2, not as good as Iron Man, and a pretty enjoyable film.
