I wonder if the game could somewhat salvaged by having more "mob" monsters in the early game.
Or even wackier have it be somewhat like zombie master and have a 2nd player controlling the mob monsters. that way its 2 v 4 which would also be handier for a potential competitive scene (still a terrible idea though).
shoulda made it more like natural selection 2 in my opinion.
Pretty funny how no one who was singing the game's praises actually said anything they liked about the game. Just "It's fun!" or "It's a good game." Like, I would expect that to be the leaping off point where a person then goes on to say what it is they found fun about the game. I know the video was edited for emphasis on how much Evolve flopped, but I never saw anyone actually talking about the gameplay or the systems before the game came out.
tbh its a good sign that they're being paid or told to say it if they don't describe in detail why a game is good. If they can't point out what made it fun, even in short detail, then it's not to be listened to.
Just Cause 3. It's a game where you're a stereotypical action hero and you're blowing up enemy bases left and right. The games great, it makes you feel like an action man, and the explosions, the gunplay, the flying and driving around, and everything feels really proper and well paced.

Simply Because 3. It's a game where you're an action hero and you blow stuff up and its real fun the explosions are great
BS, hype culture around video games is getting fucking ridiculous.
I remember how people were so goddamn hyped over GTA V that when it came out they started calling it shit. Of course you're going to think it's shit when you've hyped it up to be the second coming of Jesus Christ.
I remember warning people on this very forum not to get too hyped up about it so that it can't meet their expectations, but everyone told me to piss off. And now look at people here, everyone's complaining about it and shit.
there were people on this very forum
that got so hyped over the possibility of half life 3 during an easter egg in a winter sale
that they spent tens of hours and lost sleep and even broke up with their significant others to crack it and then spent hundreds of dollars on some epic prank to prank valve super hard because they were so angry
It makes me wonder how PAYDAY 2 is able to pull it off.
Because the fanbase allows the predation to happen. Same for Warframe. And apparently the same for this game's Xbox population, whom are fine with 35 dollar player packs and 15 dollar monsters.
I like the concept of the game but it amazes me how boring it is. The Hidden: Source was a mod made by like 3 people YEARS ago and it manages to execute this concept way better. How can a well-renowned developer fuck up that bad?

Well XBOX users are used to getting ripped off.
People remember it to bug their one friend that actually bought it.
My one friend that bought it bugs all of us to buy it so he can play it with us and not feel like he wasted his money on the game.

It's kind of amazing the games that have come out lately that were super hyped out the ass that are technically successes but are kind of just major flops as far as people are concerned because nobody cares about them and everyone actually forgets that they happened
Watch_Dogs, Evolve, Titanfall, Battlefront, Dying Light, Mad Max, Ass Creed Syndicate, and others I'm sure that I'm literally just forgetting
I mean there's making bad games that are remembered forever for being dog shit and making classics but the industry seems to have struck a perfect level of mediocre that's just 1000 percent bland and forgettable
Dying Light and AC:S are actually pretty decent games. Dying Light, I'd argue, moreso than the other.
Infact, so was Titanfall, it just didn't have a lot of sticking power. I doubt anyone will forget the disappointment of Battlefront 2015 any time soon, either.
So I'd just say that Watch_Dogs, Evolve and Mad Max (which I thoroughly enjoyed playing, but even forget that it happened) fit that catagory. I see what you mean though.
yea dying light was good and was rated well. I didn't see any bad reviews on it, unlike most of the other games there.
This kinda shit is why I'm probably skipping E3 this year. The hype machine really isn't doing me or anyone else any good and I don't know why I should waste an entire afternoon or whatever watching press conferences when I can just read the footnotes and see what got announced after the fact. I mean every year E3 is a cavalcade of false promises, bullshit, corny actors, and moments so fucking cringy the internet turns it in to a life sized meme

Whether they sold well or not, Titanfall, Mad Max, and Dying Light are all quite good. Not amazing game of the year material, but worth a few hours a piece.
I paid full price for Evolve when it released. I have played 11 hours of it entirely. The game kept locking up about 3 times in an hour and it was almost unbearable but I really enjoyed playing it when I could so I kept trying to get it to play. I went to customer support and they said that my AMD GPU might have been causing some kind of issue with the game and that I should update my drivers yadda yadda. I figured it was time for an upgrade anyway so I dropped $400 on a new Nvidia GPU a few months later and was excited to finally be able to play it. Turns out it was my AMD CPU causing issues and it just wouldn't stop crashing so I uninstalled it.
Now if I ever upgrade my CPU I won't even be able to play it because it's dead.
Evolve came out last year.
Feels like it's been way longer than that.

Dying Light was one of my favourite games of last year. It borrowed a lot of things from other games, but it borrowed the good stuff.
I remember how hyped I was for this game, I'm curious if there're more videos like this. A danger of overhype cautionary tale. I'm amazed that Turtle Rock made L4D1, which I'll wager still has more consistent players than Evolve.
Dying Light did everything it needed to do almost perfectly, it was a really enjoyable game.
Dying Light did everything it needed to do almost perfectly, it was a really enjoyable game.
It was a zombie game I was relieved existed.
Dying Light and Dead rising are like, the 2 games that actually do zombies right for me. And Dying Light and Dark Souls are the only melee based games I totally admire.

Y-you're joking, right...?
Nobody's that fucking clueless?
Most people on here already stopped giving a shit for game critics but this proved it even more.
IGN: 9.0
CCC: 9.0
Gametrailers: 8.6
Game Informer: 8.5
OPM: 8.0
Inside Gamer: 8.0
5 of the 6 reviewers claimed at least once that this is going to be the latest multiplayer addition game. James Gill from OPM and Sarah Pine from Game Informer both later disagreed with their own review but they claimed it because their reviewcopy didn't had the whole DLC part.
I was completely ignorant of the evolve hype there apparently was. I just took one look at it, saw it was another fight biomonsters in the jungle with your generic sleek scifi moba men game, and never really heard from it again.
I got the beta, played for like a day or something, and got bored.
Next gen to me always had to be a jump in graphics and design. Like the difference between Jak 3 and Uncharted 1. The current gen (yes current gen, it's 3 years old now) is pretty much just graphics, same old shit, a little prettier, maybe better framerate. Shit the best times I've had with my PS4 has been with 'HD' remakes of previous gen titles, and the WiiU is just the same old Nintendo games on a new console.
next gen is nothing but a dumb buzzword really. That's all it is.
But getting into the meat of it, next gen would be best defined by how big a leap we saw with GTA 3 and 4 to 5 on xbone, witcher 1 and 2 to 3, etc. PC doesn't really have generations though so, it's never used with PC as a buzzword.

anyone who uses mainstream game reviews to back up arguments of 'this game is good' is a complete idiot.
I hate nothing more than being linked game review sites like IGN lmao, its terrible. And IGN's reviews on stuff like the steam controller for example don't feel natural. It feels prewritten based on "I have to write this or else I never get paid" and nothing more
"make you think about, and make you remember why you became a gamer"
I don't think anyone has ever said
"you know what? I'm gonna BE A GAMER. HEY MOM, I'm A GAMER NOW"
I got the beta, played for like a day or something, and got bored.
Not bad. I played the beta for about 10 minutes and got bored immediately.
Such a shame when a great game concept gets ruined so easily
Haven't played the game but this microtransaction DLC bullshit that's built into so many games now is literally the cancer of gaming
If you're looking for an asymmetrical objective based TvT fps, Depth is pretty good.
I remember thinking how fun the game sounded but then I played 2 games in the alpha. No fun chasing a monster for 8 minutes then spending 1-2 minutes shooting it.
How would you guys fix this game as it is now without alienating the playerbase who actually spent money on dlc?
Hunting and tracking down a monster seems like fun but you guys say it's just following it around so how would you make that fun?

My response to that question was, "I became a gamer to shit all over this game and others like it!"
Not entirely true obviously. In recent years my goal as a gamer is to praise great games for the works of art they are, and to decry the total shite like evolve.

I can't be bothered to go find the threads where we went into this in depth, but the tl;dr version of is that there is absolutely zero fucking reason for the monster to ever deliberately engage the humans if he is not a) max level b) given an opportunity to solo pick someone off (even then players just respawn so there's still basically no real reason to do so.) There are no objectives you can disrupt that fuck with the humans. There is no penalty for running away constantly. In fact you are rewarded for doing so since you need to eat random critters to level up, and you want to avoid taking damage as much as possible. The humans have cross synergy and are basically impossible to take on as a team until you are max level. As a result, you run, you run, you run, and you run some more.
In short, ultra stale gameplay built into the core mechanics because they didn't seem to grasp that people would play efficiently, particularly in an "esport". Mechanically the game is absolutely terrible from the ground up.
The DLC just kept beating the pile of giblets that at one point might have been a dead horse until there was nothing left but a puddle of red powder that at one point might have been blood.
