The flattest shit ever found
Hey, my great-great-great-great-great-grandfather dropped that! That coin is rightfully mine.

but whatever it is it has this X and below this x 3 letters. These are fucking old maan 4-7th century stuff
Oh fuck yeah, that's the one. Where did you find that picture? Does it belong to the Byzantium and what time did they use this coin?
Coins like that are all over ebay in better condition for around 70$, you better hope your coin is rarer.
I made this thread a couple months ago, but the pictures I posted were low quality. So I will just give a TL;DR version.
I found this old coin in my grandfathers farm, in the ground under some plants.
Is your grandfather fat and do those plants have games on them?

If you want to get more detail out of the coin then shine a light along the side of the coin. The shadows cast will bring out all the extra bumps.
When you go to a coin/token shop they WILL try to low ball you. Try to avoid taking it to a local pawn shop or coin shop. Take more pictures and send them to a real professional online.
Get it valued. You're rich
What country did you find it in?
Either donate it to a museum and have a small plaque with your name (So you can brag to your friends).
Or look for some rich person who would pay more than a museum.

So, does that make the thread... old gold?
:downs:
It's probably not going to be the big treasure find you're hoping for, but you might get a couple hundred to a couple thousand for it. But don't get your hopes up, it's in pretty terrible condition.
reminds me of: http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1016153-My-brother-found-a-bunch-of-skulls-in-our-backyard.
yeah btw totally ignore everoyne telling you you're rich. You'll be lucky if you get ~$100USD for it. But go get it valued anyway.
this looks like it could be either a Byzantine or Roman coin. Either way, it's worth about 60 USD, give or take a few bucks, depending on which one it is.
I used to collect coins, I had a nice collection of middle-ages and earlier coins going on, though the focus of my collection was early American coins.
that looks like a poop

or a fucked up hamburger
Hahah yeah I was thinking it looked like a hamburger.
OP, "Ahhahaha this looks so cool, I will trick facepunch with it!"

Sell it to a museum.
I would definitely get it appraised by a respectable person.

Early 7th century, yeah it does belong to the Byzantine Empire. These coins were pretty popular btw. But not the exact ones.

I have a whole coins collection, from 1945's to 1990's. This one is the oldest one right now.

Looks like byzantine coins are worth about 40 bucks
Post another picture with a normal coin next to it for comparison and a label with your username.
That's a bottle cap...you are not fooling anyone.
That can't be a bottle cap, its a super old coin and if it was a bottle cap then one side would be depth worthy and it would have had more ridges.
It's some old cookie.
No, it would have been eaten by the local wildlife.
There is a skull on the side in the second picture.
This is pirate treasure. Stay out of the moonlight or you'll be in for a shock.

Okay so you made a face on a coin. Obviously if you look close enough on the original image there is something like that in the middle.
I highlighted so people could see the skull on the coin.
40 bucks? I wouldn't sell of of those for 40 bucks
I agree, if it's really a byzantine coin which is worth 40 bucks, I'd keep it.
I wouldn't expect a coin to go for over 100 dollars. Unless its a one of a kind historical piece in which I could be worth hundreds of thousands. But of course it isn't. So just keep it after getting it appraised.
Coco pops come in circles now?
Looks like old Byzantium coinage, the text is almost identical in how it was embossed on the coin and the use of the cross is very similar. It could be anywhere between Justinian I and possibly Constantine VIII.
If I had to make a guess though, I'd say it's a Anastasius II Artemius coin circa 713-715 CE.
