Yes, consumers are spoiled for seeing a lack of value in devs obvious nickel and diming.
The Safes are obvious grubbing, yes I know. But the levels, weapons and character packs are NOT money grubbing. Stop thinking that since you have to pay money its for some reason money grubbing or wrong. How the fuck is a company gonna make money on steam off their $20 product without updating the game?
I think a lot of this could've been avoided if they just made the damn game free. There's no way the game doesn't sustain itself surely?
How the fuck is a company gonna make money on steam off their $20 product without updating the game?
I dunno Garry did it for half the price. What a mad man.
I think a lot of this could've been avoided if they just made the damn game free. There's no way the game doesn't sustain itself surely?
Why not sell things to people if they want to buy them? Make more money to fund future projects, further your company and become more successful?
Keep in mind; not a single, fucking, thing is forcing you to buy ANY of the DLC/Safes
You buy weapons packs because YOU want to feel stronger, YOU want to be faster
It's all free will.
Normally I think Jim is just a hypocritical asshole who only cares about getting that ad money but this time I agree with him.
However, I do think some people may be overreacting to this a little. Payday 2 is still very much a fun game, it, just like all other games, just has some problems with it.

No but that argument is too sane, Overkill is obviously full of evil money-grubbing demons; who want to destroy the integrity of the consumer. They are out to ruin our fun with DLC!
does that ruin your gaming experience
im perfectly fine with paying 1 dollar for a few sniper rifles that they most likely spent time and money developing after the game was released, why aren't you?
Oh yeah ethics in gaming or whatever it's not right to charge money because its all digital, right??!?!?

You dont need to kill the Captain or any Swat Vans. They do little damage and stand still for a reason.
Grenades I can agree with, those should be default with the introduction of the other throwing weapons.
are you fucking serious?
Are you SERIOUSLY defending this shit? Listen to yourself for a fucking second. "You don't need to kill this enemy that can CRIPPLE YOUR EXPERIENCE." Does that sound okay to you? Because it BLOODY FUCKING DOESN'T TO ME.
How can you consciously defend this? Seriously? Tell me, I need to know. I cannot for the life of me wrap my mind around it.
Normally I think Jim is just a hypocritical asshole who only cares about getting that ad money but this time I agree with him.
Jim quit the Escapist because he was getting too tired of ads. Jimquisition is funded by Patreon now.
Oh boy check out the strawman on that one! Bet you win all kinds of arguments with that level of shitposting bruh
Alright, don't take it personal; and don't bring the 'shitpost' thing into it. You can't just write someone off you disagree with by saying "you're shitposting" because you're a respected member of the community.
No but that argument is too sane, Overkill is obviously full of evil money-grubbing demons; who want to destroy the integrity of the consumer. They are out to ruin our fun with DLC!
Yeah! Lying to the consumer? There's nothing wrong with that! Power-creeping using DLCs? Completely acceptable! Who cares I can't counter enemies in-game, and who cares I can't have a proper weapon for one of the difficulty settings, it's all optional you guys!
How can you consciously defend this? Seriously? Tell me, I need to know. I cannot for the life of me wrap my mind around it.
You don't need to kill Captains, and I've even killed a captain and all of his sheilds with an AK.
You don't need to kill Captains, and I've even killed a captain and all of his sheilds with an AK.
So you're perfectly okay with, in a game you already paid to play, having an enemy that you potentially cannot kill, because your weapons aren't calibrated to the rest of the DLC weapon levels?
What's next? You'll be okay with "Buy this van to complete the heist! :^)))) $4.99!"
Nah dude you come in personally attacking people on their profiles and making dumb strawman posts you're in official shitposter territory.
Uh, what does what I asked you on your profile have to do with this thread? Lets stay on topic please.
Alright you know what, there's no point even attempting to have a logical conversation, the lot of you take these things personally and resort to personal attacks. You are all solidified in your position thinking that a company selling products is wrong.
If that isn't spoiled millenial bullshit then I don't know what is.
Jim quit the Escapist because he was getting too tired of ads. Jimquisition is funded by Patreon now.
And yet its production values are still lacking.

I still think he's a hypocritical asshole but now I know he's at least doing it so he can be more internet popular.

No but seriously you have to stop trying to Zing! people and actually talk to them.
how is it "game-changing"?
you dont need any of the DLC to have a good time, and you aren't punished for not having any of the DLC
you can even poach DLC from other people in crime.net
"you dont need any of the DLC to have a good time"
hm. let me ask you this
do you actually know this for a fact? have you not gotten any of the dlc yourself? because it is a barebones as fuck experience, as someone who didn't get dlc for a bit after buying the game
no grenades, extremely limited weapon choices, extremely limited attachment choices, shitloads of grinding, good luck getting rid of annoying as shit swat vans
and now like, half the perk decks, and 3/4 of everything else is locked behind dlc. yea, you can play dlc heists (if you can find a lobby) but your selection of everything is small at best. iti s, as jim said, a pay to pay more game, and the sheer amount of dlc was slowly toppling what hope a lot of people had in the game. yea sure, dlc isn't inherently bad, but too much dlc, or dlc that costed too much, can push people, and you'll see that the only people defending it are ones that invested a lot into the game. (and ive bought pretty much all the dlc myself)
its slowly ran itself into the ground. too much dlc for too much money while they focus all their time and effort into making them.
At this point, could you say there's more paid content than content that comes with the base game? If I recall correctly Payday 2 didn't have that much content on release.
If so, then saying "You don't need the DLC to have a good time" is just a shitty excuse.
No but seriously you have to stop trying to Zing! people and actually talk to them.
So if someone makes a post proving you wrong or calling you out on your bullshit, they are being a bully who's putting you down?
:hurr:
So if someone makes a post proving you wrong or calling you out on your bullshit, they are being a bully who's putting you down?

How can you even "prove me wrong" in this case...? It's subjective. In my opinion, complaining about paid content is just something spoiled people do, if you aren't spoiled you will either work towards getting the content or not get it at all. No sense complaining about how it's "unethical" to charge for content
I dunno, if you can't see what I mean then you're one of the people I'm talking about.

except it's content that keeps the game from being unbalanced or stale.
No but seriously you have to stop trying to Zing! people and actually talk to them.
What is there to talk about? your argument is "no it's fine though shut up, stop acting entitled"
You're clearly not open for a discussion, you just want to act superior because you think companies piling a game full of DLC in lieu of fixing bugs and game balance is acceptable behavior
So if someone makes a post proving you wrong or calling you out on your bullshit, they are being a bully who's putting you down?

Yeah I'm sorry but I'm going to side with him on this small little issue here. There was no reason for RichyZ to post that after boobs obviously thought posting that was a bad idea and relented. Doesn't excuse this asshole for all this other idiotic crap he's posting but still, this "stick to your guns" mentality is something I really don't like.
In my opinion, complaining about paid content is just something spoiled people do, if you aren't spoiled you will either work towards getting the content or not get it at all
that opinion is pretty shit
im not spoiled one bit and I complain

There's no discussion because all of the replies have been "Are you fucking serious you idiot? how can you even think that? ZING!" like im personally attacking you for disparaging the way you are reacting over this.
I mean honestly look at the posts right above ^
They're all borderline flaming because I just dont see a huge problem in a company selling playable content; not safes (I think the safes are ruining the game, so I'm bloody agreeing with you guys to an extent,)
But having a problem with the playable content that is actually fun (that even you guys agree is fun), just because you have to pay; is not something I understand.
I guess it's funny. Okay I'm going to stop having the discussion now, at this point you're just reading it's from me and just disregarding it.

I'm gonna level with you:
I can understand this completely. They can do whatever they want with pricing or content especially since they do keep releasing content for the game and supporting it. And Overkill isn't really FORCING anyone to buy their DLC. You can still play every level of the game just fine, missing some alternative weaponry that, I'm sure you know if you play as much Payday as you act, will ultimately make your game more challenging to complete. A business is a business, employees need their pay, and everyone wants to turn profits.
With all that said, I can't defend their actions. This isn't a single player game. This is a cooperative game, and in an ideal world that would mean everyone is working together and helping each other out; but this isn't an ideal world. Cosmetic skins are one thing, but stat tweaking things in a cooperative game have just as much effect as in a competitive game. What you do is remove the usefulness of a player in comparison to another. I would want an ace team together if I opened a lobby up. The logical counter to this would be "oh, why don't you just play with your friends?" And your damn right I would, but come on. If I wanna play a game I should be able to play it whenever. You could tell me "people don't really care about this kind of stuff in a lobby" but you wouldn't have really ever played Payday in a pub. You have a variety of incompetent and elitist players thrashing at each other to grind levels, creating beautiful things like these videos:

and weapon skins that make some players more proficient than others will make it thrive even more.
I stopped playing this game a long time ago because I stopped being entertained by it, and that's nobody's fault. I simply moved onto other games. For that reason I'm not going to jump deeper into what more problems this game has. What I can't stand for is things that will inevitably split a community.
Weapon skins used to be a thing for modders. I think it was part of Goon Mod. I was so cool with that, and it had much more customizability. It was like the mask customizations. You had the ability to make it yours. If they did something like that, people would have much more things to collect, much more creativity to flow, and then if they wanted to they could shove patterns and materials in safes to make their buck.
And I'm not some 10 hour bitcholoid, I've played the game 510 hours now and enjoyed every minute of it. But I can be honest enough to say playing with the DLC toys definitely helped that play time. And grinding to infamy 25.. god fucking damn

This is the kind of healthy post that's good and constructive. Not just "lol dude that opinion is shit; got a great argument goin there pal"
I completely agree on the weapon skins being very detrimental to the state of the game. They've sort of introduced an actual class-warfare in their own game, and the stat boosts are just flat out silly, for something like a cosmetic item such as a skin. But the DLC like the heists and character packs are totally fine in my eyes.
Things like balance in this game are kind of vague; because if you can make headshots in this game you are essentially good to go. I have a friend who has none of the DLC and usually does better then all of us with the base, default guns. Unless you're playing against other people balance doesn't make a lick of a difference; because the guy who kicks you for "not having a weapon pack" was going to kick you anyways.
The only real DLC you kind of need is the sniper rifle one; if that.

Same thing with grenades, you're paying for things that should already be in the game, basic base weapons that one would expect to be in an FPS, and not something they have to purchase with real money after they already bought the game.

I wanted to buy it. You gonna tell me that's wrong somehow or im stupid because of it? I wanted to support the guys who made the DLC. Up until now I, nor anyone I know that had any quams with any of the DLC or the base game itsself, but all of a sudden with the second Crimefest update, everyone apparently had huge problems with them and everything in the game. Why? Is it cool or something to all of a sudden to hate everything about Pay Day? Because you so happened to get bored of it? It sure seems like it.
Also like I said grenades should be default unlocked. That is silly I have to agree with you.
