A couple of years ago, I sat on the subway home, I looked out the window as usual.
It was rather dark outside (it was winter, and 5 o'clock), so the lamps on the station was lit, and just before the train left the station, it passed one of those lamps, and under it I saw the shape of a person, floating under the lamp.
I didn't see it for very long, but when it passed the window I turned around with wide open eyes and thought to myself "What the fuck?!"
To this date, that was my clearest ghost experience.
Well, this had to have happened a good 7 or 8 years ago. It happened at my former place of reside. It was a fairly old Ranch style home. It had to have been built sometime before we had moved in, for the fact that I never heard my parents speak about it being built. I was about 9 at the time, and being so young, had some nasty habits. One of those habits, was that I was always curious, and getting into things that were best left alone.
It was a good neighborhood, aside from the fact of living next to some old railroad tracks. At that time, I enjoyed their presence. I was always one to venture to such places. They weren't completely desolate, for I had remembered a train going along them once before. Having been bored, with no one to play with, I decided to venture to the old tracks once more. Making sure not to trip on the wooden boards between to two rusty rails, I walked along the middle. Making close watch in-front of me for trains, I continued along. After a few extra steps, I tripped landing hard onto the rock and gravel. Aside from a few tears of pain, I was all right. I got up, and looked behind me. Being young, but not stupid, I knew that something other than the boards had tripped me. I walked back a few steps, and saw something odd jutting from the ground. Sweeping a bit of rock from the object, I realized it was an old, rusty railroad spike. I tried pulling it up, but it was stuck in something buried in the dirt. I dug a little around it, and with a swift yank, It came free. A chill ran down my spine as I looked at the object I had pulled from the quiet place of rest in the dirt. The railroad spike had been lodged in the remnants of a human skull. Scared to near death, I dropped the grotesque object and ran to my home, hoping never to see or speak of the incident again.
After a few days, I had begun feeling a tad ill at night. It might have been because of my brother sleeping in the same room as me, but I doubted such a thought. I got up out of my bed to go get a drink, hoping to feel a bit better, and get to sleep. As I walked along the halls, I couldn't help but feel a sense of presence with me. I couldn't see anything, but I felt as if something were in the room with me. I quickly looked back, then forward again, feeling a little more secure of myself. I reached the kitchen, got my drink of water, and proceeded back to my room. When I got back into the hall, I felt the presence again. This time, I turned around, and saw a shadow of some strange shape on the wall. I jumped a few inches, and scurried off to my room with lightning speed. I slept with the covers over my head that night.
The next morning, I was hesitant to tell my parents what I had seen. When I finally did, they told me that I was seeing things from being sleepy. I knew what I had seen though. It wasn't just my eyes playing tricks on my young mind.
I went outside at around 6:00 P.M. that same day, to play a bit before it turned dark. Mostly I would shoot hoops with a miniature basketball net, with an equally miniature basketball. But this day, I was less playful then usual. I had the sickening feeling again. Remembering the last time I had the feelings, I went inside, hoping to watch some TV. In a few short hours, it turned black outside. Still having the slight feeling, I went to my room, and within minutes, went to sleep.
It had to be around 1:00 or so that I woke up with a sharp pain in the forehead. I rubbed my head gently, and looked around. My heart nearly stopped. As I looked to the door, I saw the shadow again, only this time, it wasn't just a mere shadow. The once shadowy figure was now the presence of a full grown man. He was wearing overalls and a seemingly red shirt. I whimpered slightly, not fully sure of what I saw this time. The man approached me slowly, some object in his hand. As he got about 3 feet from me, I saw that what he was holding, was an old, rusty, railroad spike. In my head, I was screaming, but I held my scream, not sure of what to do. He raised the spike slowly, and when he was only inches from my, let it go onto my head. The second he did, I was out cold. I had woken up the next day, sobbing. I had no memory of the night except for the horrifying scene that had played out early that day. It still scares my some to this day, and yet even with fear, I still wish to figure out what went on. But the chance is lost, for only weeks after it happened, we had found a new home, and have lived there since.
That's my contribution. That was not any real occurrence, but in my opinion, a good story.
Little bit of an introduction here, I got the idea for a thread like this from SA, their ghost story threads are magnificent.
First of all - It's possible that this could be considered a post your, but frankly I'm hoping it won't be the +1 inane copy and paste/chat bullshit that makes up the entirety of Fast Threads. Hopefully some interesting stories will get shared, which I reckon makes it GD material.
Second of all - Sceptics - There is nothing wrong with being a sceptic in this thread, please do post if you believe you have a logical explanation for something that happened in a story. What the thread could do without is shitposting about how ghosts aren't real and if you believe it you're stupid. The GD rules back this up, if you think it's shit there's no need to shit all over the thread.
Thirdly - Fiction or Non-Fiction? There will more than likely be a few stories that just don't quite seem to sound genuine. While the thread is mainly about genuine experiences, there's nothing stopping people from posting complete fiction, and it'd be better if the thread wasn't filled up with thousands of people shouting "THIS SOUNDS FAKE".
^ Not that I'm trying to backseat mod, just hoping that some guidelines keep the thread halfway productive.
Without any further adieu, the first of a few short stories of my experiences.
So what the fuck are you doing next to my bed?
It was 2 years ago, and I was still in school, what'd be referred to as High School in America. It was the easter break, which naturally means that schoolkids get tons of time off while no-one else does, it wasn't uncommon for me to be in the house alone for the majority of the day. This story actually takes place a foot away from where I'm typing this, in my bed.
It was a pretty average day off, I'd slept till 12, gone out with my friends to play some rugby. Had a cheeky can of lager like the excitable teen I was, and gone back home because I was tired. This doesn't mean I was drunk by the way, just one can while we were out. So I get home, and my dad's gone to the pub, I go to sleep, and everything seems to be normal.
Then suddenly I awake. I feel something, it's something that can't really be explained until you experience it, but there was just a tangible feeling that something was off. I couldn't see anything, or feel anything, but the air felt heavy and I was wide awake. I can see the clock from where I'm laid, 2:00, I might have heard my father coming back from the pub, I go with that explanation and close my eyes to try to get some shut eye.
That's when I noticed it, how had I not before? To my left is a closet, it's about a meter away from my head, and was never particularly menacing, but it's unmistakeable. I can hear breathing, it's slow, it's quiet, but it's definitely there. At this point I'm in fight or flight mode, there's something in my fucking closet, and I'm not getting pushed around in my own bed, I'm opening the bastard right now.
I lean over the gap between my bed and the closet and place my hand on the handle when I realise something. With my head next to the closet I notice that the breathing isn't actually coming from the closet at all. It's coming from, oh fuck, oh fucking no, I can only imagine I looked like a ghost myself from how ill the realisation made me. I look down and there it is.
It's a man, he's knelt down on all fours beside my bed, so that his head is mere inches from the floor. The bright blue alarm clock doesn't give a startling amount of detail, but he seemed to be wearing a dirty yellow tanktop, and what looked like tracksuit bottoms. He had short hair, but I couldn't see his face as I was right above him, granted I didn't want to see his goddamn face. I stayed where I was, absolutely and completely shitting myself, I was beginning to sweat, I could feel tears beginning to well up in my eyes, I don't want this to carry on anymore.
It starts getting faster, the slow, gentle breathing is gaining speed and becoming louder, I'm shaking so much I'm surprised I didn't fall down there with him. I don't know when I decided, but I just decided the breathing was getting fast enough for me to get the fuck out of there, without a second of hesitation I bolt for the door, rag it open and fly down the stairs as quickly as my legs will take me.
It's a bit of an anti-climax, but I just slept downstairs on the sofa that night with all the lights on, and nothing of the sort has ever happened again. This might have something to do with having to move my bed over that spot when I got a new computer desk though.
Hope you enjoyed what may be a pretty tame story by ghost story standards, but a genuinely terrifying experience for me. I hope that there are enough people who have had experiences who are willing to share them.
Also I'm a bit of a sceptic as well, I will always try to look for a logical answer, but I can't explain what I saw. I'll post some of my other stories once a few more people post.
I honestly don't know how you could've fallen back asleep in your OWN HOUSE after seeing what you thought was a real person.
One time, around 3 am, a couple a years ago, I woke up in the middle of the night. My tv was on. Suddenly, it just cut to static and I saw something move behind my tv.
I ended up sleeping in my parents room on the floor.
Another time is when for whatever reason I ended up watching some christian cartoon channel in the middle of the night. My eyes started freaking out. If you've ever played Wind Waker when link got possessed by the Poes, and his eyes were going everywhere, that's basically what it was like for me.
About a year ago I was in my living room ( A friend was over ) and we were watching SAW at night and in the basement there was a loud crash so we went down there. One of the shelves were tipped over and the TV was on and randomly the dryer started. We ran our asses back upstairs shut that basement door and locked it. I was never so shocked yet scared in my life.
My house has about 50 dead people buried in the back garden, some guy was killed in my cellar and my town has a long history of ghosts and witchcraft. I sometimes hear footsteps walking through my house, this isn't creaking though, it's proper footsteps following a rythme. Noone else was in my house at the time though.
I had an odd one just last night, I was upstairs in the bathroom washing my hands, then the toilet flushed itself. I'm not joking, I hear the flushing sound when you push the lever. Freaky. A year or two ago I was sleeping on the couch and the skylight was across the room and the sun was in my face, I wake up, and blink, and I get the after color effect(like when you look at something bright, then dark) and I read within half a second "He is coming for you." It was creepy.
EDIT:
I have a bit of a weird story about 6 years ago my father bought an old sword from a yard sale it was a world war 2 sword I think...So he brought it home and he kept it under his bed so that my sister would not mess with it. Well the next morning he woke up to find the sword missing, he asked me if I had it, I told him that I haven't touched it. He finally looks around and finds the sword on the kitchen counter, we had no idea how it got there at first I thought he was trying to scare me. So that night I went to go make my bed when I heard laughing coming from my dads room. It sounded like a small boy laughing, I quickly went in there and didn't see anyone. So it was a bit confusing and creepy at the same time. I tell my dad about what happened he says that it might have been the radio or something(he used to keep his radio on in his room). Well that night it was about 11pm when I heard something slam, I quickly woke up and ran into my dads room where I saw my dad laying on the floor looking as if he saw the devil. His eyes were wide and he was shaking, I asked what the hell happened he said that he say a small boy with blond hair in a blue striped shirt standing in the doorway of his room, he quickly tried to get out of bed, this caused him to trip and fall onto the floor facing towards under the bed, he said that he saw a blank face of an old man staring back at him when he fell towards under the bed. We both decided that something wasn't right, that night we quickly put the sword in a stack of insulation we had in the garage. The next morning we were mentioning it to our neighbor and we were going to show him so I went to go get the sword but it wasn't there. I asked my dad if he had it he said no he hasn't touched it. We never saw the sword again after that, I have had a couple other paranormal things happen but don't want to build a bigger wall of text.
The kid in the striped stuff was likely a Jewish boy who was taken during the war, and killed that old man with that sword or something.
This is a really interesting explanation of some paranormal events, it's a good read. Sorry if this has been posted before, I wanted to post it before I went of to bed, so I didn't have time to check the thread.
I don't exactly have a tonne to say, but some creepy stuff has indeed happened to me.
When i was young (about 6 to 8) i had a rather low down bed, next to my brothers bed, seeing as we shared a room. I always remember, pretty frequently, waking up for no apparent reason, and after a short while (long enough to be almost completely awake) i would see a shadow'y figure, a lot like a man sized stick figure (not as funny as that sounds) walk in. he would stand near the door for about 5 seconds, and being too young to be scared shitless, i would often say "hi" or "who are you?"
Because of his blurry appearance, i couldn't really tell if he was looking at me, but i somehow knew.
After the short time he stood there, he would walk to the wall to my right, then walk THROUGH the wall in front of me. Every time he did this, i would always say "wait stop! where are you going?". Then once everything calmed down, I would fall asleep and think not much of it.
I also experience extreme cases of Deja vu, not exactly regularly, but enough to creep me out for the rest of the day. Here is one such occurance
One night i dreampt of one of the school workshops (for the subject design and technology, im not sure how many other people know of this subject, but that is what these rooms are for)
In the dream, i looked behind me, and saw that one of the windows leading to another classroom was completely black, and that all the windows leading to outside where also black, as if the room was the only thing that existed. It was just like any ordinary lesson, i was filing down a piece of wood in a vice, when a person i know walks up to me and says something along the lines of "HAH you dont saw a piece of fucking wood like that..." while pulling a weird face at me, naturally in quite an annoying way.
Anyway, the next day, we incidentally had that subject, and ultimatelly where in the same room, and surprise surprise where starting a project of making a wooden grabber type thing.
I started making my design, and of course lead me to be standing on the same vice, with a rough piece of wood. i started sanding, and as if by magic that idiot popped around the corner.
It was such a predictable occurance that i acctually SAID what he was about to say, much to his shock, and even my own surprise. he didn't think much of it, and waddled over to annoy someone else.
That certainly made the rest of the day feel weird.
I know that i did in fact dream about it, becaue i had acctually told my brother about it, so when i said that it had acctually happened, he practically shat bricks.
well thats enough rambling for today :D
This is a very entertaining thread by the way, slowly getting scared...
Edit: Acctually when i look back now, this is very almost a tonne of stuff
i came out of my bathroom after taking a shower and my batteries were out of my controler and the channels were changing on my TV then it just shut off
[editline]29th December 2010[/editline]
sometimes i dream what i see the next day
nice bump
but this thread again :ohdear:
One time I realised that the human brain can construct some pretty fucked up and scary hallucinations or falsely percieved images and sounds.
IMO ghosts don't exist cause there's no proof of their direct existence, and all these "ghost hunters" are either just in it for the TV cash/for the lulz/because they are fucking dumb.
I thought that too.
But I stayed at a house that was without a fucking doubt haunted. It was unexplainable.
This one time (A few months back to be more exact) my girlfriend needed help with her homework so she came over to my house. After a while, we were done with her work, but she decided to stay a bit more. One thing led to another, and we were on my couch making out. Right in the middle of this, my phone rang from the kitchen. I asked for my Girlfriend to wait a minute while I take this call, so I walk over and pick up the phone. A voice from the phone said "Are you hitting my daughter, or am I seeing things?" I froze at the thought of someone stalking us from the windows, watching our every move. I frantically checked all the windows, closed them, blocked them, put the blinds on them, etc. My girlfriend said "What are you doing?" "I think your dad is stalking us, and thinks I'm having sex with you." her face went a bit pale and said "My dad died in a car accident a year ago..." I flipped the fuck out and said "THEN WHO THE FUCK CALLED US?!"
[sp]Turns out, it was her mother.[/sp]

Well... are you atheist? Atheist's have a higher chance to being intertwined with paranormal activity due to there non-belief in god in which you are not given a guardian angel. That makes you more vulnerable to paranormal encounter's.
Edit: I also have my own story.
I was home alone, watching TV, eating a Sandwich. When i finished it, i walked back into the kitchen to put the dishes away. All of a sudden, I hear like some kind of tapping and look to my left and saw a knife in mid air floating for about one second. I almost shit myself. I felt a heavy presence. Then, said outloud. "Whatever you are, this is the place I dwell and you are NOT welcome here." Then, I hear a couple voices/whispers that were very faint. "Begone from this place, as he has said." and "I can't at peace, for i was banished from the depths of hell..."
I think the first voice is my guardian angel because I have a strong belief in God and the Lord Jesus. I am Christian. Oddly enough, No other appearances happened.
one time i went to general discussion and i found a thread that was long buried.
My dad is a real estate developer and build a lot of houses. When he is done with the houses, he usually has them staged (when they put in a bunch of furniture at shit to make it seem like a cozy house). Well, some of the things we use to stage the houses are from our own furniture collection. Of course, some of that furniture came from my deceased grandparents.
Well, one day, my father took me to one of his staged houses to change some light bulbs and open some windows and whatnot. I was doing as I was told, listening to The Doors or something on my iPod, and I realized I was alone. I kept on with my business and walked into the living room, where I clearly saw my grandfather Ted (dad's side) sitting on his old easy chair, with his familiar whiskey and ice. He smiled and raised the glass. I blinked and then he was gone.
I always assumed it was my imagination, but it is still strange because I haven't seen him in a little less than 10 years. But the man on the chair was so clear and vivid. To this day, whenever that chair is in one of the houses, I will always see him out of the corner of my eye with his glass and that smug smile of his.
well might as well tell my story so.......
one night almost 3 years ago i was in my bed asleep. Soon i was woken up by a loud crunching noise as if someone was eating coco puffs in my ear. At first i thought this it must be some stupid prank my sister is pulling on me so i decided to ignore it and try to go back to sleep, but this sound was really persistent (and honestly pissing me off). So i turned around (180 degrees facing up) only to see a black mass on me. Now it wasnt the ordinary black mass thats kinda like a ghost it was a fully solid figure with...darkness seeping out of it and its eyes were pitch black with a little red dot in the center (like a pupil). It had a little wieght to it but it barely felt like 3 pounds. But anyway i was scared motionless it felt like it was staring into my soul it was like that stare was paralysing me. For a good 5 seconds me and it were staring into each other eyes (go ahead rate me optomistic i don't care) until i shrugged it off and it evaporated into thin air after that i cut all the lights on and stayed up until sunrise.
Edit: why did i rate myself zing (self-facepalm)
I sometimes believe i have a poltergeist in my house... When all of my family have gone to bed, i always hear the scrolling sound from the iPod, like someone is using it... I also sometimes hear footsteps from the kitchen..
I once also heard scratching sounds from the bathroom door..
Note: These are not real, if anyone is scared of these Imaginary stories. They don't exist!
Okay, don't belive me? fine... fine... Ask your parents. Dead? well figure out that they would be scared, paranoia and insane if these "Paranormal Experiences" Happend, or just ask me. I've never had a paranormal experience.

Why didn't you punch it? seriously try that next time. It is an illusion, or you just make up fake stories. Because if i saw some paranormal figure, i'd charge in and not be afraid of death or other shit.

I think it's more possible to see paranormal things when you belive in jesus, or god.
For example: Your brains can trick you to see Guardian angles or hear, or you can hear a devil etc.
Because if your christian you do belive in the devil right? Well the appearance and the voice will be saved in your back of the brain and can send illusions to your eyes and maybe ears.
Not sure though but i think this is it, or maybe your a faggot that smokes weed and doesn't know the consequence of weed. :v:
Oh well, no paranormal experiences. YET.
I once woke up at around 4:00 am to the loud noise of my floor-boards creaking. I sat up in my bed, curious as to what it was. I started to hear footsteps and heavy breathing getting closer and closer to my door.
Then, the unthinkable happened, my door slowly slid open and I saw the faint figure of a little old woman with a walking stick. Not thinking I asked this figure what it wanted.
I rubbed my eyes for a second to check if what I was seeing was real. As soon as I removed my hands from my face I saw her right there, clear as day.
Sweat was dripping from my face, I have to admit I was almost in tears.
The old woman started to heavily breathe as she sat on my bed. She leaned in close to my face and said...
"I need about tree fiddy" It was about that time that I realised that the little old woman was 8 stories stories tall.
I said "Get out mah house. I ain't givin' you no tree fiddy you god damn Loch Ness monster."
Tell more, it's interesting. And yet funny! hehehe
