Thanks, I like trying new things. Heck, I even made a sculpture out of soda cans + kit metal recently.
Very impressive work. I must ask, how long have you been doing this?
I've been drawing for most of my life, but I've only studied art seriously in the past two years. It kinda hurts me to look at what I used to consider as art =I i.e. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4565878/facepunch/misc/Robotics%20club.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4565878/facepunch/misc/Bot.png Of course things are different now =) http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4565878/facepunch/11th%20grade/skull.png http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4565878/facepunch/11th%20grade/goblin.png http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4565878/facepunch/11th%20grade/watergun.png
Please tell me you have a conceptart sketchbook. This shit is awesome.
I've actually been meaning to make one, had it not been for the fact that I've been really slow on my art recently. I mean, take into account that all the drawings in this thread has been made over a period of 6 months, and I'm about to run out of drawings to post too =I I might get to it during the Winter, but anyhow thanks.
you are FUCKING amazing. I love the picture of Boyde (I don't know how it's spelt) from Psychonauts. Do you live near any markets? You could set up a stall and sell prints of your work, and for a decent price too. I know a couple of people who do that in various places around London.
It's funny because I almost gave up on that drawing when I started painting the face. I never got it to look "right" until I realized that's how he's suppose to be.. Wow I didn't know digital artists would sell prints, I understand that's something photographers would do but I guess I should check this out. I live in a pretty suburban town, only art center I can think of is this painting store nearby but I can't guarantee that they'll take prints, let alone my prints of suicidal robots... But anyways I have made money from art. Like $50 from "speed portraits" and another 50 for notebook drawings and commissions.
Well, the guy I know set his own stall up in Camden Lock, where you can find all sorts of weird and wonderful stuff, so it wa skind of an ideal location. But yes, prints of digital artists aren't as rare as you may think- I have one hanging on my wall that I bought from some woman in a different market somewhere, and I've seen plenty other such stuff. I love London so much sometimes. You could always try that art center, as you'll never know until you try. [editline]22nd November 2010[/editline] All the pictures in your OP seem to have vanished, also (unless it's just me). Dropbox kinda sucks...
They all are 404 [editline]22nd November 2010[/editline] Well, most of them. The ones i see are impressive.
man you have very nice vision
ty, you have a very nice avatar
Well, the guy I know set his own stall up in Camden Lock, where you can find all sorts of weird and wonderful stuff, so it wa skind of an ideal location. I do feel intimidated when I visit a shop/exhibit full of these pro painters and sculptures though, just reminds me how long it's gonna take for me to make a career out of art. Oh oops, yeah dropbox isn't the nicest program when rearranging photos and links. Well, last update for this thread. Not gonna have anymore drawings to brag about for a while. Do you feel that you only really gained these skills once you started studying art as a focused thing? Because looking at your early ones I see similarities to mine just now and a few people I've spoken to have said their illustration skills improved ten fold when they began to study Art at University level.
I could never draw anywhere as good as you :sigh:
How do you think I feel when I visit conceptart.org? :sigh:
Do you feel that you only really gained these skills once you started studying art as a focused thing? It's great if you want to take art as a serious hobby, but just know that it took me (literally) 1000+ drawings under 2 years to get me where I am today. I'm not in an art school (yet) so unfortunately I can't speak for university students, although I'm sure there's a reason why certain intensive art schools have dropout rates of +50%.
What gets you motivated and inspired? I can never really come up with an idea on my own.
Would you like me to explain something specific? Because I mean I could write essays about brush strokes, colors, shading, anatomy, yada yada yada.. I can't get paid to draw unfortunately. Ya. In fact I should've said they were referenced (aka not traced) from screencaps I got from netflix. Wouldn't want to take credit for them being completely from imagination. More stuff: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4565878/facepunch/11th%20grade/knight.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4565878/facepunch/11th%20grade/robo.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4565878/facepunch/11th%20grade/burd.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4565878/facepunch/11th%20grade/iggie.png
Nah, I figured it was hand drawn from the OP. Was just making sure it was that fellow from FMJ. Good job all round, very inspirational.
For those feeling dissapointed that they're not as good as other people... Remember: There's always gonna be people better than you at something. You'll just have to get used to the concept and deal with it; don't feel disheartened. So what if they're better? That's why you're working on this stuff in the first place, so that one day you'll be as good as them. So what if it takes a long time? The journey is what makes it fun. Always remember that even though you're not the best, you're still likely to be NOWHERE NEAR the worst! Hope this helps y'all feel better 'bout your works .
^He's right, and remember that the good artists are the bad ones that didn't quit.
What gets you motivated and inspired? I can never really come up with an idea on my own.
Hmm, it's kinda tough for me to answer that since I have problems finding motivation on my own.. The biggest tip I can give you is that you can't draw when you're bored. Same reason you might hear people say "I just can't draw today". But if timing isn't a problem, putting yourself against hours and hours of anatomy and lighting studies can still be exhausting; so try to incorporate experimentation into your own projects to save hours and effort. Sure there's a good chance that it could turn out horribly wrong, like my robots + markers test, but no risk no reward... You can also find motivation through obligations. Drawing/doodling for friends gives you an incentive to finish an artwork. In fact I've been working on a logo for my school's environmental club. (I don't really like the environment, but it's good college portfolio material) For inspiration, I keep a "creative resources" folder on my desktop. It's filled with images I've found all over the web. It doesn't even have to be "art" related, just stuff that can make you think differently. i.e.
the bear in taxi looks like a good inspiration to these weird combo pics (color background, weird franchise mix, like star wars + bttf style), don't remember the name
