I wish there were more unconventional type pokemon, like water/fire (would probably be just a ball of steam), fire/grass, fire/electric, etc.

I count 5 evo families based off of inanimate objects out of the 55 evo families I counted, not including Pokemon without evolutions. That's hardly an argument.

It introduced double battles, pokemon contests, had cool places like the soot forest, and paved the way for future installments. So the pokemon are kinda weird, but so what? Flying/normal type at the start of the game is in every game. The difference is in their stats. It also provides an easy source for pokemon that can use HM02 AKA Fly. And whether it's cool looking or not is a matter of opinion. Reshiram is a Legendary that is important to the plot, so it serves quite a large purpose. It's clear now that you have no clue what you are talking about with these games.
