Gta 5 would be a better bench mark.
On the Xbox One and PS4? Thats going to be a little hard to pull off. :v:
from what i can see, not that i trust any of these videos/screenshots, the xbone one's contrast is horrible. it's so blunt and obvious. the ps4's more subtle lighting looks much more filmic

not too shabby actually
That's partly because the PS4 version renders at 900p while the Xbox One version is at 720p.
Also, Xbox One really went overboard on the contrast; thought they would have fixed that.
EDIT: Couple screenshot comparisons.

Difficult comparison. At first the xbox looks better the contrast brings everything out more, but as you look more you notice that it also causes the darks to get lost. you can also see the ps4 is hazier and has stronger AO (look up near the rear view mirror on the car. Overall id say the graphics are nicer on PS4 in those examples.

in that first one so much is different in xbone for no reason at all. also uh the guys face is smudgy compared to PS4
not that big of a difference though
also in the videos xbone looks lower res + and fps stutters but super fucking dark
Here's why the Xbox One has weird contrast:
So what's going on with Xbox One?
Xbox One was also acquired at full range 0-255 RGB with the dash set accordingly, in line with the other versions - exactly how we approach every Face-Off. We have now had informal confirmation from a very good source that current Xbox One hardware has issues with full-range RGB output that are not present on either PC or PS4. We asked DICE for comment and were told that they are "investigating the video output range and settings for Xbox One".
I also recommend you all read the whole Digital Foundry breakdown before throwing out anymore opinions: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-battlefield-4-next-gen-vs-pc-face-off-preview
What is with the arm texture on PS4? It looks a lot different than the others.

The article explicitly states xbo looks worse. (And you can see it)
This is the sort of thing where you should really read the article.
Curiously, the top end is also affected, causing the image to appear distinctly washed out, as if set to limited range. This is particularly evident on PS4, which is kept free of a comparable black push to Microsoft's platform to compensate. Right now there's every possibility that it could be a capture situation, but it is worth noting that we saw no such issue on our PC captures and after returning to base, the same equipment produced a perfectly balanced picture on our PlayStation 3. [1]
...
Is this the result of you processing the footage to make it look better compared to PlayStation 4?
Um, you don't make a game look better by crushing subtle detail. The lowering of dynamic range like this physically can't make a game look better - it can only look worse. The only regret here is that the drive for the best possible assets has resulted in captures that do not fully represent how DICE wants the game to be played. [2]

People don't seem to realise that contrast does not equal better graphics.
People don't seem to realise that contrast does not equal better graphics.
if you read the thread you'd have seen where the graphic handling of the different consoles are treating the contrast different and it' crunching the range all wonky as of the current build. Microsoft and Sony didn't touch anything, and DICE didn't decide to change things up for the hell of it. This is likely to be an issue many cross-platform developers will have to deal with and balance out

I am horrified at the Xbone's lack of AA
I am horrified at the Xbone's lack of AA
i think it's just lower resolution than PS4 so zoomed in you see more pixels easily
BF4 is 720p on xbone and 900p on PS4, iirc.
It's amazing how consoles still can't run anything at full HD. But that might change as the tech develops.

all ps4's exclusive titles are at 1080p as well as some other multiplatform games, cod:ghosts runs at 1080p 60fps which is nice.
and personally killzone:shadow fall actually looks better than crysis imo. doesnt make the game any better of a game... but credit goes where credit's due

PS4 seems to be blurred while the Xbone isn't, but that contrast is fucking annoying
Also PS4 has more clouds and some slight detail, Xbone doesn't really but honestly give these two consoles a year to sit and devs time to fuck around with it and this won't be an issue
[editline]30th October 2013[/editline]
It seems like devs are treating the xbone like the xbox 360, this is to be expected because they treated the 360 like the original, same deal for PS3 to PS2 but it seems like they probably had more time to mess with the PS4 more
As the article says, it seems to be clipped black/white levels.
Examples from HL2.
[t]http://static.glitchvid.com/images/fp_posts/vgames/d2_cost_default.png[/t] - Non clipped
xbox 1 confirmed for more contrast
Big deal, All TV's have their own individual settings anyway. It does seem like even with the PS3, all games have way less contrast than the Xboxes, though. In this case it actually looks better
There's minor differences but I would say the PS4 over all looks better. There's slightly better anti aliasing and it seems to draw higher level LoD's a bit further out. There's also noticeable ambient occlusion where the Xbox has none. To me it looks like the PS4's version is actual 1080, where the Xbox version is at 720 blown up to fit a 1080 screen. That's about what the differences look like to me
All I care about is Anti Aliasing this time around with the consoles. Just smoothen some fucking edges baby
It makes me laugh when people upload graphic comparisons on youtube. What's even funnier is how defensive console fanbodys get once you tell them how inferior the graphics are too the pc.
It's honestly pretty stupid to compare graphics from a console to pc.
That's always been the case in a new generation
PS2 went from

to

I might be wrong, but that 2nd shot is larger than PAL or NTSC resolutions the PS2 could output.
His point is still valid.
Graphics improved, yes. But that can't be an image from a PS2.
Graphics improved, yes. But that can't be an image from a PS2.
You were right, I grabbed an Xbox screenshot, Here is a definite PS2 screenshot.

Still looks much better than the Timesplitters image.
It isn't contrast. I am pretty sure it's darker because everything is done in some weird SRGB space instead.

Huh 99% of PS4 games are 1080p.
Huh 99% of PS4 games are 1080p.
There aren't even 100 PS4 games named so I'm a little suspicious of the accuracy of that statistic.
Edit: ah there are actually, lots of X-platform indie titles so I wouldn't be surprised if there's a lot of 1080p in there.

I can't tell much of a difference but because ZachPL made this thread I gotta say the PS4 version looks absolutely beautiful compared to that garbage on the xbone. Praise be to Sony.
im guessing the xbone is scaling up from limited rgb to full, causing the crushed blacks and highlights
this isnt just higher contrast, you're losing detail.
"mat_monitorgamma_tv_enabled 1" thats what limited rgb looks like before being stretched to your monitor's full rgb range

Not for long.
All I'm seeing is a slight different in brightness...
