This is a week old but it seems to have flown under the radar here.
Looks like FPS is gonna be the future of Resident Evil for sure now. From the looks of it, they've basically perfectly translated the action side of RE with this expansion/DLC. Considering just how terrific RE7 was, and how fresh it felt, I can't complain at all.
Oh fuck I didn't know it was free.
I wasn't happy that they changed Chris from a giant hunk of meat into a twink but he's still using his muscles to beat the shit out of monsters.
Makes sense, what with how 23 years ago the original idea for Resident Evil/Biohazard was an FPS. I haven't really played this much myself despite having it on Steam since like March, but I probably should. Especially since my brother who actually bought the game is scared shitless of it for some reason.
Why is the running animation so weird? Its like his arms are hauling ass but he is barley moving.

Low FOV. A high FOV can give the illusion of going fast; that's why sprinting in some FPS will increase it

Funny thing is, RE7's worst part in my opinion was in those very same mines where there were simply too many identical enemies running at you. This looks like it took lessons from that part and added everything needed to make the same situation much more fun.

To be fair he was kind of a twink to begin with and only became a mountain of flesh in RE5, which prompted a lot of confusion at the time.
Also, the DLC was always meant to be free but initially was slated for a much earlier release. The entire thing was outsourced and the quality was just not up to par, so Capcom took it themselves and reworked it from the ground up internally to meet expectations. Which is kind of awesome considering this is free.
I do wonder if it will support VR, however. The base game did, but not the Banned Footage expansion.
Man I just about came when Chris snapped into that thumb over bore animation.

Really interesting how the AR seems to be single-fire, I guess they still want the shots to feel extremely deliberate rather than allow any sort of spray and pray.

It appears to be a shotgun.

It makes sense for him to get more ripped after RE2 but it doesn't make sense for him to say "these muscles are too useful, I better catch up on my Steam and anime backlogs" and let his muscles wither away to normal human levels
I hope the whole thing doesn't take place in the mine. I'd like to see some varied environments.
So is this suppose to take place right after the ending of the main game or before? Obviously taking place in the mines that you don't explore in the main game. I also assume [sp] the brother guy who was never killed is the guy behind this. With 'Key?' sign and shit. It's his M-O[/sp]

Well the reason [sp]Chris is in the mines is to find and kill/apprehend Lucas Baker[/sp], so I doubt you'll be in them the whole time. I'd imagine the boss fight at the least will take place outside them.
wow i almost assumed they canceled this

dunno, feels like he's just got no head bobbing even though his arms look like they're going everywhere

I think it's just a visual retcon.

The extended gameplay confirms this

It's a visual retcon, they said that his RE5 look was a little too much for the "realism" they were trying to go for in RE7.

I think everyone in RE7 are modeled after real people using photogrammetry whereas RE5/6 Chris is either an amalgamation of different people or a hand-crafted 3D model

I'd be lying if a part of me wasn't hoping it's all a ruse and they pull off some mgs2 raiden style reveal at the end. I guess I can't accept chris not having his boulder punching muscles.
jesus christ i hate FPS movement with controller, video in OP made me mad.
RE5 Chris was the best.
RE5 Chris was a little funny when it came out, cuz capcom just didn't give a shit anymore, but now that they care again I couldn't be happier that they made Chris look like a human being.
As much as I liked how RE5's Chris was a shredded apex human, I like how this sort of goes back to the RE1 version of Chris.
I still won't be surprised if he has to punch through a boulder while he's in the mines
Like yeah, the fact they're trying to bring things back to sanity in character design and the horror elements and everything, I'd honestly love to see them bring back more characters. I mean fuck, Jill is still fucking alive, put her to use again. She even mentions wanting to get back in the field once the BSAA is done with their tests on her in Revelations 2. Make Leon interesting again. Fuck, they made Sherry a character that could be interesting (I still consider her to be the real main of Jake's campaign in 6.) The series has a lot of distinct characters that could really be interesting with the serious nature 7 has gone to.

I'd like just a little comment when investigating a boulder or something like "Yeah, never doing that again." or something.

Terrific and fresh? I mean yeah it's not a bad game but it felt to me as if they just tried out to be as shocking as possible and crammed in lots of tropes of horror movies of the past 10 years. The sound design was very weak, undynamic and the horror itself didn't really feel frightening, just disgusting sometimes. After about 2 hours I have seen and felt everything the game had to offer.
And with the sound design I mean things just repeating the sound files whenever you walk to a place you've been before. Every time. There should have been a lot more variety. It's an alright action horror game but nowhere I would call it terrific and fresh. Horror like this has been done in many movies and some other games before. Games like Alien, Soma and Darkwood deliver a much better job in conveying horror to the player. And since Capcom is returning to horror, they need to compete with these games. And Resi7 simply loses in aspects against them.
There was also other things like some annoyingly bullet spongy enemies and an oversaturation of ammo in the second half of the game.
RE5 Chris was the best.
Code Veronica Chris was the best and only for the simple fact that he is wearing the exact same S.T.A.R.S. uniform he had in RE1 despite not being in Racoon City or a member if S.T.A.R.S. anymore.

Pretty much. Resident Evil 7's horror felt way too safe and sterile, like it was ticking off every mass appeal horror box it could. The molded are too predictable, and it lacks the feeling of vulnerability through sound design and enemy placement that the prior games had.
