That sucks :(
I wanted to try it out.
the tv show was at a different resolution, he said it wouldn't work online
It's not about resolution, it's just about the build up of it all, certain words he uses etc. etc.
Didn't mean it like that, I just mean that the start of both the events shows so far have had very little to do with the actual main event of the show.
I just don't really like the format of this show.
Well they why didn't you just say that then?
Yeah sorry. Have a friendly for all this unnecessary hatin'.
Yeah, pretending you're intellectually superior sure makes me feel bad
Explain how I "don't get it"
ok the way you am looking at it is not correct. It is not camera tricks or hired people to come in and pretend to 'play along'. There is a line in the mental state of people which lies between the waking state and the sleeping state. It's almost like when you are doing something on 'autopilot'. Your not exactly concentrating on what you are doing yet you can do whatever it is you are doing perfectly well. If you get even more relaxed from that state you can enter into what is known as a suggestable state and in the state you can allow more suggestions into you brain and can be 'advised' on what to do.
What Derren tried to do was allow people to get into the 'suggestable' state by using these blurry lines and getting people to relax and get into this state. Whilist in this state the more suggestable people who allowed the suggestions to be placed into their mind. So before the video he planted this suggestions of "stuck to your seat" before the video started would make people more suseptable to them.
While the video was playing you may have noticed that your eyes was trying to adjust the lines to make them more sharper but this would be impossible because the lines are blurry to begin with, so at this point you eyes are getting into a state which you are more suseptable to the suggesting because your brain is working overtime trying to concentrate on the lines. The main problem with this is that only the highly suggestable people will only be suseptable to the suggestion. So everyone else would just stand up like normal but it will only workon 10 - 20% of the audience .
My sources - I know shit loads about all this stuff and a lot of Derren Brown methods. Hell its help me get a lot of stuff in life
Plus if you want to know how some of this works, look into NLP for starters
loads of text
I know, I agree with you.
It is not camera tricks .
The lottery one was blatantly a camera trick.

That is garbage, seriously.
I just tried to get stuck by watching Channel 4 + 1 but it didn't work at all. Is it really possible to put people into a suggestible state via television? It seems pretty unlikely.

You would be surprised at what the human brain is capable of
Anyone see the image of a person tied to a chair flick on the screen a few minutes before the film started? I don't think that actually did anything though, it's probably just to build up hype of some sort.
The thing were he goes up to someone, touches their head and makes them sleep is bloody weird.

I think it was sort of a joke.

There was an itailian hypnotherapest who showed a full hypnotic trance on tv and placed lots of people got into a trance which caused a nation wide panic because lots of people when into a trance. They all got out of it ok and naturally but the worst thing was he did not intend for people to go into a trance.
This is why they dont show the full hypnotic trance on tv but what derren did was not a full trance it was a mild trance if that but because he was trying to do a 'subliminal' trance he did not say the suggestions whilst the video was playing so it would not be stated as hypnosis.
Jackshit happened. Only thing that did happen was that right after the film ended I was like "I don't want to get up because I'll be able to do it and then I'll cry"
Then I stood up and sobbed.
I reckon the white stripey film was rubbish, and so where the images of the guy with the rope around him in the chair that flashed up.
Just to make you nervous. He said it in his last show, 'I can only predict your movements when you are emotionally charged' the build up was what did it. Not the film.
Trick of the Mind is so damn good.
See he tried and mostly failed (with some expections) but you can't discredit the guy for trying or for his previous work.
Personally I love the work of Milton Erickson http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milton_H._Erickson
By the way, did anyone else see the subliminals in The Gathering last week? I thought that meant he was gonna do some grand finale with epic shit but nothing happened.

I did not like the gathering, I thought it was mainly shit

They weren't terribly subliminal on TV, more so for the live audience.
Didn't affect me, it might be something to do with my mind building it up into a kind of challenge though...
I watched it again on the repeat, didn't work for me.
I wish I was one of those people that it did work for.
It's not about resolution, it's just about the build up of it all, certain words he uses etc. etc.
That is what I was thinking. The video was just to get you into the right state of mind, the actual part about getting you stuck to your seat was during the show.
It's not about resolution, it's just about the build up of it all, certain words he uses etc. etc.
No it wasn't
I wish it had worked :(
I wish it had worked :(
Same, I wanted to know what it would feel like. Unfortunately I could just stand up instantly.
I reckon it did work on some people, but unfortunately not on me.
I didn't get stuck to my sofa, no matter how much I wanted to. Stuff like this never works on me.
After he had shown it to the audience you could see that about 3/4 of the people had gotten up and left.
No it wasn't
Do you really think that a bunch of spinning lines, along with some silly music, stand alone, can make you not unable to leave your chair?
It worked on me ;)
Yes.

That is completley different, that is subliminal mesaging, along with the people telling them to "forget" All he showed was lines, just lines. no talking, no subliminals.
