This is absolutely horrible. Its possibly the most degrading thing ive ever heard. Shit like this makes us look like were horrible fucking sickos.
Just because people watch a TV-show. People get so fucking hot and bothered about things like this.
The word "brony" is so absolutely degrading all of the sudden.
Where are their parents? Oh they live with their parents, all of them.
Its just so fucking wrong. Its like they're. as a "brony", people can be so terrible.
Why do people call themselves bronies? Its just so wrong. Its not like its a fucking religion or something.
The same reason people call themselves furries but furries have been around long enough no one gives a shit anymore.
The furry thing is basically a fetish and a love of anything anthropomorphic, rather than a fandom of a single tv show. It's not like no one ever reacted to it anyway
carcarcargo put it bluntly
nobody cares what show you like, but when you create a fandom it's a bit weird
The furry thing is basically a fetish, rather than a fandom of a single tv show
But some people enjoy being a furry as being a furry, not as a fetish.
I wonder why you guys don't freak out the same way about Homestuck
I'm not a brony, I don't watch MLP, nor am I defending bronies but I see just as much Homestuck every where on the internet as I do MLP, is it because Homestuck was aimed at an older audience and MLP is not or what?
and yes I am aware there are some people on facepunch who loathe Homestuck with every fiber of their being but i see way more people who hate MLP

Its because MLP is more of a kids show then homestuck is a kids comic.
Not implying HS is for kids
One of my points exactly, bronies think their fandom is somehow important and significant, and integral to their identity or something. You get so serious over something that on the face of it is laughably silly and meaningless. You'd think I'd just insulted your religion or sexuality
Whoops I'm on my phone and this is meant to be a reply to Vodkavia

I don't see bronies acting like their fandom is important or significant. I see people who just like something and want to talk about it. The cases of "SHOVING IT IN MY FACE" hardly exist anymore. Its just become the backbone of a generic argument for people who hate them because they are weird. The silent majority is just that: the majority. A LOT of people don't let it be known.
And why people might get flustered over discussions like this is because imagine it for a second. Imagine being scrutinized by everyone and their dog for just fucking liking a TV show. I'm not going "OMG THEIR LIFE SO HARD", I'm just saying it gets pretty fucking irritating to have to explain yourself over and over just because you like something.
Howard Stern does a very good job of reducing down anything into shit then making fun of it and I appreciate him for doing this.

Fair enough. Aside from everything I've said, what confuses me the most is how did so many grown men become so fanatically 'obsessed' with a show that was marketed towards little girls in the first place?
"As anyone would say....sweet pony ass..."
Oh Mylanta.
Oh, and if you choose to become obsessed with a little girls show you should expect to be scrutinized. If you think there's nothing weird about it and therefore people are in no position to criticise you, you must be either terribly naive, deluded or autistic. I'm being serious. Bronies shouldn't be surprised at people for being people

(that's Lauren Faust's account, she is involved in production of the show to put it lightly)

You use the word "obsessed". That and bronies are not synonymous. Some watch the show and that's it, some watch it and participate in the fandom, some collect every MLP merchandise known to man. There is no global constant, just as there isn't one in any fandom.
There will ALWAYS be people who take it too far. What makes bronies more obvious is due to 1: The assumed nature of the show, based on the franchise name, and 2: The fact that it has become so popular so fast.
Are the people who cosplay, jerk it to ponies, and hoard pony merch potentially autistic/socially deranged? Almost certainly. But even the people who go so far as attend conventions and cosplay aren't deranged. They are functioning adults who find it fun to celebrate something they enjoy.

Loads of show for young children are designed so their parents can enjoy watching them with their kids, but I can't think of many other children's shows with such obsessive adult followings, and it doesn't mean that adults are actually part of the target audience. Take Peppa Pig for example, it has a lot of proper humour in it that adults can relate to, but I've never come across an adult male who's obsessed with it.
And in reply to the second chunk of text, its not boys though we're talking about, its grown men. MLP is girly, not just feminine, and it's girly in a terribly cliched way... so I don't think she's in much of a position to bang on about gender stereotypes or whatever.
Asides from all that, she would say all that and defend the fans of the show seeing as she's the producer

Have you actually watched a few episodes of the show? That's kind've an important part of making an informative assessment.

For a start I think just calling yourself a brony is a bit obsessive... Even if you aren't fully obsessed with the show though it's still a little weird
For a start I think just calling yourself a brony is a bit obsessive... Even if you aren't fully obsessed with the show though it's still a little weird
I think 'brony' should be used more for descriptive purposes rather than titles one gives themselves. Like saying "Trekkies" when referring to Star Trek fans. I agree, though, if you introduce yourself with "HI I'M X AND I'M A BRONY", you need help.
For a start I think just calling yourself a facepuncher is a bit obsessive... Even if you aren't fully obsessed with the mod though it's still a little weird
I don't think I've ever had a convo in which I've said "Hi I'm a facepuncher" :v:

The whole Brony thing started out as a joke anyway. I can see how some people have taken it too far, but I can at least understand why it's caught on.
As far as it being weird... why? Like, as long as they're not harassing you for not watching the show, why do you care?

If you can't see the weirdness in a grown man being more into a little girls show than your average sports fanatic is into sport then you should think over it again

Btw unlike you I am totally perplexed as to how the whole brony thing caught on

Well, bro puns have been a thing for quite awhile. The word pony is a pretty obvious target for the joke, so it spreads. Once it's spread, it becomes convenient. It's not like someone just woke up one day and started unironically announcing to the world that they were a brony, it evolved over time like pretty much any other label.
As to the weirdness, I honestly think it's kind of weird the way a lot of people obsess over sports, but I don't run around proclaiming how fucking weird I think they are. They enjoy it, and as long as they don't ostracize me for not being into it myself then I don't care. In fact, what's weird to me is that society can so encourage one thing and mindlessly attack the other. Taste is subjective, that it can be considered normal to obsess over some things and not over others is blatant hypocrisy.
its a show for small children and their parents so its still weird to want to fuck a pony butt imo
i dunno i guess im just old fashioned???
howard stern is the fucking shit. Getting a chance to meet him next month, very excited.
howard stern is a douchebag

Yeah he's also funny and makes people angry.

sort of like you
except the funny part
[editline]20th July 2012[/editline]
actually scratch the funny part from Howard Stern as well
Waah he makes fun of things I like he's the most well known and popular radio host ever but he makes fun of the things i like!

Sport- a phenomenon which is a huge part of human culture and has been around for thousands of years can't really be compared to a tv show about magical ponies
[editline]21st July 2012[/editline]
Some things are weirder than others, you have the idea that everything is subjective. It's not. We're all humans and we all think the same when you get down to the core of it.
