Homestuck's fandom is better contained and it's easier to not recognize the webcomic. Plus most people who hate it hate it for more than just the fandom. There are many legit reasons for not liking the webcomic and its author as well. Whereas most people don't give a shit about FiM and Lauren Faust usually isn't even brought up in these kinds of discussions.

Though I just wanted to mention another thing - I've noticed people are very fast to believe anything written by anyone claiming to be the fan (especially when creepy/sexual content is in question) to be their legitimate view. Barely anyone actually first thinks "this guy's trolling" or anything like that, even though the probability of someone trolling with MLP material is extremely high considering just how volatile the content usually is on the forums.

Hey guys, I am a military brony. However, I don't go around wearing patches or anything like that, nor do I bring it up to my platoon mates at work, because we have far more important things to do than sit around chatting about things. Not only that, but because they aren't interested, and I am not interested in trying to make them care either. It is just something that I keep to myself, a way to relax. I consider myself a normal person. I think people just need to get over the stigma of being a brony. Whatever floats your boat, I say.
