Music Chat Thread V. The Music Section is Dead (Long Live the Music Section)

people are overly touchy about their music. i mean i was too when i was a teenager, but if your attitude is the same as mine was 5 years ago but you're over the age of 19-20 theres very little to discuss.
objectivity is what you need, but lotsa people lack it

What a fuckin jam
I know I missed the Devin Townsend discussion but I just wanted to say I think that Ghost is the best album he has ever written. I can just feel so much more emotion coming out of it than any of his other albums. I believe he actually said himself in an interview (don't cite me on this) that Ghost is his favorite album to play live. I love some of his other stuff (Terria, Ocean Machine, Addicted [Supercrush is in my top 10 favorite songs], and Ziltoid) but I can only stand so much of those octave based, layered tracks that he loves oh so much. Gets a little boring after a while.
I just hope he does more with Casualties of Cool, really liked that.
Is there a program I can use to equalize all my music tracks? A lot of them are softer than the rest.

most players come with a setting that does such automatically, but if you want to edit the files yourself you could try something like MP3Gain
I need to diversify my music tastes, currently my library gives off a "everything made after december 31st 1999 sucks" vibe.

You want diversity? here you go; have some kiwi lo-fi noise rock.

Beautiful, thank you.
that's what replaygain is for
itunes, foobar, etc. all support replaygain tags
http://wiki.hydrogenaud.io/index.php?title=ReplayGain
replaygain is the worst thing ever, it completely murders dynamics in music
whenever i'm not enjoying an album i go to check if someone put replaygain on it and if they did and i turn it off i enjoy it a lot more
you/they are using it wrong... there is per-album (for normal listening) and per-track (for listening on shuffle or from playlists)
i've used both and they both have the same effect, every song is just completely squashed, it's the most obvious when a snare hit will make everything else slightly quieter, it completely kills any flow of the song and just makes it a boring flat soundwave
??? that's not replaygain then
replaygain literally just turns the volume of the entire track/album down by a constant amount, all dynamics within the track/album are exactly the same as before
well that's what foobar's replaygain does, i didn't notice it at all first and i used it a lot but eventually i started noticing how it compresses songs, now it's really noticable

Check out some of vaporwave's inspirations, like muzak or smooth jazz.

I guess I could get a rundown of all the most important albums of the 20th and 21st centuries from every genre. Blues, jazz, hip hop, rock, metal, electronic, stuff like that but the best works from the best artists just to get an idea of diversity instead of mostly just listening to classic rock music from the early to mid 1970's by english musicians.

I could probably get a list on some music news site but those usually suck
just listen to this its all u need
