Just sat down and listened to Bob Dylan's Self-Portrait front to back and tbh it's a pretty decent record. Honestly as a double album it works fine like it manages to hold its 70-odd min run time respectably and it really doesn't sound that bad - there's a lot of iffiness about it like its not that sure of itself, and that version of Like A Rolling Stone was.. Something (but the version of She Belongs To Me was a good one). Definitely wouldn't argue with the production issues tho- it lacks a lot of punch that is potentially there and it overall sounds kinda weak but like... I would say it's an alright record. A 5,6/10. Far from his 60s work but I enjoyed it mostly. Not even close to "worst rock album of all time", but I always did assume that those labels were hyperbole backed up by the quality of his earlier work-- and I'd say that's exactly the case. I would listen again.
self portrait is hilarious and awesome
now listen to his "Dylan 1973" album, it's even more epic ;)
[sp]it has the worst reviews i've ever seen[/sp]
So am looking for songs, albums, or bands to listen to while I do some writing and am wondering if there are any that help you guys focus. Care to recommend?

with any luck frank ocean, kanye and radiohead will all drop their shit this year
2016 has so many hyped up releases it's insane
[sp]the new david bowie's already super good[/sp]
the 2016 album i'm looking forward to the most is swans' new album
bowie's new album is great too tho, too bad the leak is poor
yeah the swans album should be interesting provided they stick with the bluesy elements. the whole repetition thing was taken to such an extreme with to be kind that it's just not interesting anymore.

tbh to be kind felt rushed overall, some of the songs sound really unfinished and uncompleted
there's a couple of songs that feel more like b-sides than proper songs and the pacing overall isn't great
i still love it, but the seer is my all-time favorite album and to be kind just feels like a big step backwards
To those who like lsd and the search for god, or shoegaze in general, here's their new song:

The Seer is my favorite Swans album as well and I can agree with your opinion To Be Kind, songs like Some Things We Do and Kirsten Supine were just...bad

So what does everyone think of Big Star? I've been really obsessed with them lately. The most obsessed I've been with a band since The Beatles.

I've come to the conclusion that Alex Chilton is the greatest songwriter/singer ever.
I just realized how long has this series of threads not been called music off-topic discussion
