Black Clouds was such a disappointment, I fucking preordered it and tbh I couldn't sit through it all, that nameless king song was pretty cool but thats about it. Systematic Chaos is kinda fun, I don't really see it as a "Dream Theater" album tho so i don't count it.

black clouds has a special place in my heart because it was my first full dream theater album, but i totally get why you wouldn't like it, it's very simplified
there's a clear distinction with the music before and after they joined up with roadrunner records, and i dont know if that's the band's failing or input from their new label (probably both)
i'd recommend giving black clouds another shot, it's not amazing but i really like it
