You really ought to
They're only my favorite band
I second the first line.
While Flood is easily one of Boris' best I'd start with Pink or the first Heavy Rocks
Their best is probably either Amplifier Worship or Flood
Akuma no Uta is a pretty good album to start with too.
Personally I prefer Pink
i don't get why people like Pink so much i found it to just be kind of ok
Pink's alright. It's their most accessible album by far and features a little of everything Boris does - stoner rock, drone metal, noise. It's a Boris sample platter, if you will. That being said, their better fast-paced stoner rock album is EASILY the first Heavy Rocks. I listen to it while coding in class and it makes me feel badass.
Their experimental stuff is where they really shine, in my book.
I though pink was a lot more energetic than heavy rocks, they're close but pink just nudges it imo

Also is sun baked snow cave worth buying?

no
If you want a good Boris + Merzbow comp, buy a nice copy of Rock Dream. Sounds amazing for a live album.
Also is sun baked snow cave worth buying?
it's about the same as most boris x merzbow albums - boris noodling with merzbow adding some noise on top
sun baked snow cave does have some really good atmosphere, i quite like it, but merzbow still just feels tacked on
merzbow still just feels tacked on
Oh cool so it's every x and merzbow album ever
Speaking of Merzbow -- really interested to see how his collaboration with Xiu Xiu turns out. Also interested in hearing Xiu Xiu's renditions of the Twin Peaks music, but I think that stuffs just for gigs. Although I'm sure footage will end up online.
They're doing a collab? Sweet.
You can already buy a copy of merzxiu only vinyl that ships after RSD, but it comes with an instant download
Oh cool so it's every x and merzbow album ever
pretty much
merzbow's main problem is he rarely tries to have any dynamics or even fit in at all, he just always goes full on noise
when he does, once on a blue moon, try some subtlety it can work quite well, like the first track of Megatone with Boris

on the other hand, when it's the other way around and it's people building music on Merzbow it can sound really cool, i'd suggest giving Frog Remixes a shot if you're into noise music, there's some real gold in there, like Sunn O)))'s track

the vinyl sequencing > cd
here is the Merzbow/Xiu Xiu collab https://kingfisherbluez.bandcamp.com/album/merzxiu
I'm so hyped for Sufjan Steven's new album to come out. I listened to it on NPR and I loved most of it.
the problem with merzbow is that he's an artist, but (usually) not a musician. he occasionally incorporates rhythm and melody into his work but I've never heard him do that when collaborating with another artist.
I didn't know merzbow and xiu xiu were doing a collab, that might actually work pretty well as a plain old noise track
the problem with merzbow is that he's an artist, but (usually) not a musician.
meh sound art and music fit hand in hand
True but with Merzbow his collaborations are always far more interesting as a concept than as a construct. It always just literally does just sound like -X artist- and Merzbow. It's never the artist working with Merzbow to create this cool mix of their styles, it's just, say, Full of Hell playing doomy hardcore with moments of noise in there. It's not noisy hardcore, it's hardcore and noise. Seems to be the same deal every time but I'll check out the Xiu Xiu collab tomorrow probably cos new Xiu Xiu is always worth checking out and Jamie Stewart's collabs have been interesting so far.
meh sound art and music fit hand in hand
hand in hand sure, but they're not entirely the same thing.
Yeah, the Xiu Xiu and Merzbow collab is neat because they're two artists I never thought would end up collabing. It's been a while since I've properly listened to Xiu Xiu, but Jamie Stewart is one of my favorite songwriters.
I should really check out their collabs. The only one I can think of that I've heard off the top of my head is the album where they did a cover of Under Pressure with Michael Gira.
hand in hand sure, but they're not entirely the same thing.
ambient, drone, noise... all music.
i cant get bogged down on definitions, gives me headache :(

how embarrassing :~)
No one liked Boris's collab with Michio Kurihara? I'd rate that as one of their best.

I can't get into Merzbow though.
