mono is ass. early stereo sucks too, people were playing around with gimmicky shit and HARD panning effects and isolating instruments in each ear, it's why the stereo mixes of beatles suck so much shit. basically the reason I have difficulty listening to most stuff up until around 75, cannot stand how dull and flat mono sounds and i really hate how gimmicky and poorly mixed most early stereo sounds subtle, quality stereo panning is one of my favorite effects when it's done well. never have heard a single album pre 1979 that's done it well.
