there are different "waves" of ska music, what you're describing is third wave ska which is in fact just pop punk with trumpets
original ska is more closely related to roots reggae and 2 tone ska is essentially rocksteady

I was basically planning to work backwards from a couple 3rd wave bands and try and find my way back to roots reggae. Reggae and ska have been genres I was interested in for a while (mainly 2 tone though tbh), and the sudden taste for this generic ska band has set me on course.
After spending a lot of time just listening to lots of 2000s music and experimental music, with the odd old band thrown in, I've finally started getting interested in the evolution of genres, so I'm gonna start with ska. Trying to identify influences is great fun.
Sleaford mods though, thats something I can get behind
Ska/Ska Punk/Skacore are like the most fun and happy genres in music and everyone should put aside some time to just have fun to some of it.
