well they are just way more alt rock than they are punk, though they certainly have a post hardcore edge to them. I've only heard their late studio stuff. I still need to look into the early years

nirvana might have been alt rock but they were definitely a punk group and for good or worse laid the foundation for pop punk so i don't see why at the drive-in couldn't be a punk group
