Beating Your Kids For God - General

Studies show good encouragement works way better then hitting you're kid.

If you have a child and he doesn't listen to you or anyone when they give him verbal discipline and such what do you do?

Man you guys confuse me. Why would you want to inflict pain onto your love ones? I've been beaten enough to know that I couldn't possibly do that to someone I love so much.

I was never beaten or even yelled at that much, and I'm a nice guy and dont do much wrong, and get good grades and so forth. It depends on the kids. But you shouldn't really beat kids, theres a lot more ways.

If you have a child and he doesn't listen to you or anyone when they give him verbal discipline and such what do you do?[/QUOTE] you change the tactics used. children are not "one size fits all" when it comes to punishment, some punishments dont work on some children. psychology whether child or otherwise comes down to motivations, you have to find what motivates them to misbehave and what motivates them to follow the rules and use those motivations to your advantage. for instance one of the articles stated a lot of children misbehave to get attention, so a good course of action is to ignore them when they are misbehaving for attention and give them extra attention and affection when they are behaving as they should.

Beating your kids doesn't teach them why they're wrong. It teaches them that they need to "be good" to avoid getting beaten. No, giving them a pep talk while you whip their ass doesn't count. Honestly if you need to beat your kids to get a point across you shouldn't have any in the first place, you're just shitty at parenting. I mean how stupid do you have to be to not know how to mold a child.

I didn't realize this many people advocated physical discipline. Hitting children is really sad to me, even if it's just spanking. Fear isn't a good way to teach anyone.

My mom used to snap me on the forehead when I did something really stupid. It wasn't the physical pain (if you can call it that, it felt like someone tapped on your forehead a bit harder) but the thought that I did something really really bad to make her do it. It was quite a powerful feeling.

I think my dad smacked me in the head once because I punched him in the nuts while we where out buying lampshades... Smacking a kid once for doing something bad, is ok. Smacking a kid repeatedly because a book based on a different book said to is just plain cruel.

I just flat out disagree with physical harm as punishment.

It's a terrible feeling being afraid of your father/mother because they beat you often. I'd rather have my kids look up to me or actually enjoy when I'm around.
