Why should something be any less deserving of sympathy if it isn't cute?
It's not, but chances are if you dissect a naked mole rat and a two week old kitten, you're going to feel more sympathy for the kitten rather than the rat.
Did it smell bad?
It smells like chemicals. Formaldehyde. I spilled the bag of preservatives and various bodily fluids my pig came in on all over myself and I was basically wearing the smell all day. I felt like Carrie. It's really, really strong and prolonged exposure to it will give you a headache. It did for me, at least.
I was eating when I saw this thread
:barf:
what the fark, we just dissected some worm.
i wish we got to dissect a cat
It's not that bad. I mean, it's not like he killed it.
One of my classes was cramped so we had to move into the anatomy classroom for about a week, and there was a box full of dead cats much like the first picture in the OP. It smelled like ass.

This. However, the science classroom that I'm using this year was the same classroom as my Spanish teacher's of last year, they shared a room due to some mix up. So I already got pretty used to the chemical smell, and I wasn't nearly as bothered as some of my classmates.
That was p. hot, thanks OP :)
I remember when I was in school most of the science department/area was doing dissecting that week.
My class was dissecting cats, the class across the hall way was dissecting sharks and fish and some other class was dissecting some smaller critters. The entire hallway stank terribly that entire hall way didn't have much traffic that week besides the students who went to the classes.
For people that don't know, these cats are not killed for the propose of this. It is the very opposite, the school buys the cats that are already dead. Most animal shelters that put down animals have freezers and they actually store the dead animals for a period of time. Instead of just destroying them or whatever they're bought for educational purposes.
We dissected sharks last year. I accidentally cut into the brain after we were done and juice squirted everywhere :v:
Also we're supposed to dissect cats this year but I'm not sure if we will because 90% of my class is girls and earlier in the year they voted that we don't.
Since when the fuck did school disect cats:smith:
The pictures are slightly gross but rather interesting to see. I never dissected anything in my high school biology class but we went on a field trip to some medical place where they showed us a pre-dissected human cadaver. The smell was really bad but it was quite interesting.
well this is just about the worst thing to post on fp
the hordes of cat lovers are probably planning the best way to tear you apart
I own a cat and find this very interesting.
Since when the fuck did school disect cats:smith:
Since schools learned that cats can teach a lot about anatomy.
Really, why is everyone so sad about this? The cat was from a shelter, as already said. If the cat was just picked up off the street it probably had a bad life. Maybe it was suffering before it was euthanized, maybe it had a disease?

Hell, I own 3 and I think this is interesting.
We dissected sharks last year. I accidentally cut into the brain after we were done and juice squirted everywhere :v:
I cut into the rectum and poop got everywhere. :v:
I cut into the rectum and poop got everywhere. :v:
Oh yeah? Well at first we couldn't get ours open so the teacher cut the abdomen up and shark piss spewed on her :v:
That's h:frown:rrible. The frog I dissected in middle school was better, he dyed it so it had a pink stomach, blue heart, etc.
what motivates you to post threads like this
That's a lot more interesting than I thought it'd be. I had the opportunity to dissect a pig during my high school biology course, but at the time I could barely bring myself to do it. It was the smell more than anything. Those preservatives are awful, but under their funk was the distinct smell of porky ham. I couldn't eat pork for a month without imagining that stink.
Aw lucky.
Ive only ever dissected a fish, a frog and a sheeps brain. Nothing as interesting or as big as a cat.
I only got to dissect a cow eye and a cow heart in school :(
[editline]27th February 2011[/editline]
Did you fry or cook the meat and eat it afterward? I fried the cow heart, and it tasted awesome.

I hope you are joking, the amount of preservatives in that would have been extremely toxic... Also, we couldn't eat our meat if we wanted to due to it being injected with rubber/preservatives.
Why oh why would you post this

What about the sheep brain was boring? I thought it was really interesting.

Ah, ok, didn't think about that :P
Eh. It didn't really gross me out THAT MUCH...Untill you were streching out it's small intestine. :barf:
I never got to do cool dissections like this...
The most exciting thing I got to dissect was a pigs head.
Fresh from the local butcher, it was quite awesome that it didn't reek of preservatives, a bunch of kids in the room threw up when it's tongue accidentally fell out the back of it :v:
What about the sheep brain was boring? I thought it was really interesting.
Nah, not boring. Still really interesting, especially when comparing the different components of the brain to the ones that classmates got. "This must have been a really angry sheep LOL" etc.
Just saying its not AS interesting as dissecting a whole cat.
I remember dissecting a frog. I took the physics path instead of biology, so I didn't get to do the cat. What I do remember from the frog is the chest wall is a pain to get open.
This is pretty cool
Ugh, we did pigs when we did dissection
I've dissected a cat. It was quite fun. Several people really didn't want to do it at first but got used to it eventually..
Also the stuff they use to preserve them smells terrible but you get used to it.
