If any of you want to know why perfectly functioning cars for the blind like these aren't on the road just ask yourself one question: If the car gets into an accident, who pays the damages?
Depending on who caused it. If somebody runs into ass of such car, he pays it. If the autonomous car runs into somebody, depending on the warranties provided, either google, or the owner of the car. I can easily imagine that these car could get special insurance which would easily cover such cases, or something. It's not a problem. You can easily classify it as technical failure like any other - the same like if brakes failed, or if a wheel fell off and made you go into the opposite lane.
All requires rigorous testing and setting up norms and rules, but it's easily obvious that these cars are already much safer than human driven ones.
Was that a big red button on the center console?
I think it was.
Google knows how I think. I like big red buttons that scream "OVERRIDE".
Yes because Google put in that function just for you.
love it how he just eats a taco with 2 hands while driving @2:13
Yes because Google put in that function just for you.
Yes because I'm dense enough to think it was made just for special little me.
Really?
Not for me, but for people like me.
People that want a big angry looking button that makes the thing stop being a robot.
I wonder if we need a drivers license to drive in one of these?
It will revolutionise drivers licenses. If everybody had these cars, the test would be:
"Can you press on the start button?"
"Can you stay off the manual override button?"
Suddenly everyone passes the exams.
But i like to drive :(

I'm pretty sure for now you really should be able to drive a car, just in case it gets stuck somewhere and can't find it's way out.
hope i can root this car

Let's hope its impossible to break its security, otherwise what do you think will happen when terrorists manage to get in the system?
I bet if most cars were replaced with this, crashes would go down significantly.
But watch, only a few people will get it and a human's erratic, chaotic behavior will confuse it, and cause more crashes, so it never gains real popularity and speed.
I wonder how much it's going to cost?
Holy shit, just like everyone years ago saw the future.
Only without Jaws 19

Considering Google's "what can be free is free" apporoach, I can imagine it will be surprisingly affordable.
They are quite probable to follow Ford's tactics and will try to push these cars as much as possible, as it will make the work easier for themselves, as more of their cars in the traffic will make the navigation better.
It won't be a deal for anybody but I think that it won't be something for the 1% only, either.
This is amazing.
It will become a reality. Being able to drive a car, being blind, and eating a burrito.
Thank you google.

a 4 guy drive-by
This would be amazing; just think of how much city/interstate traffic would change. Since everyone would be going at the same rate the flow of traffic would be amazing. Not to mention there would be little to no more car accidents meaning those huge jams that happen on highways would be a thing of the past.
You can also consider things like drunk driving; even if your were drunk the car would navigate you home. I'm sure it still would be considered dangerous, but it'd be much less than drunk driving manually. There is just so much potential for this, and if Google plays their cards right it could be huge!
Imagine some asshole driving really awefully shouting "watch where you're going, are you blind or something!".
With how many idiots are on the road these days, I welcome these with open arms.
I certainly hope we have a manual override mode
Google makes something like this, doesn't even mention the word "Revolutionary"
I dont know if Apple has ever made something that they didnt call Revolutionary.
With a self-driving car you really don't need to point out how amazing it is
Title made me think that they programmed the car to hunt down and run over blind men
"Google test self. Driving car on blind man."
