[QUOTE=mpntball2012;31236849]If there's no traffic a 4 hour trip going 70mph would be shortened more than 2-3 minutes if you held a greater average speed of 85-90mph.
Just.

it would, but it's still not a good idea

Drive to the upper peninsula in michigan, if you are not going at least 70 when the speed limit is 55 the cops will pass you. So in that case much safer to speed otherwise you will just get tailgated.
they can pull you over though.

Yeah that is why a radar detector is nice, if they detect one then there is some cop who feels like pulling people over today.

who gives a shit if they pass you, and tailgaters can go around you if you're in the right lane (as you should be if you're going slower)
moderate speeding has been proven to be safer.
the subject of not saving time is completely ludicrous, 45 miles at 70 mph will take 0.64 hours or 38.5 minutes, the same miles at only 10 over that is 0.56 hours or 33.75 minutes. 10 mph saves you just under 5 minutes on only 45 miles...
if you go faster than everyone else then you avoid the traffic thus ensuring safety!
If you are going faster than normal its no longer mindless driving ensuring you are completely focused on the task at hand, allowing you to perceive obstacles in your path and anticipate events around you.

These are two lane roads, I would hope I am in the right lane. So people can't just up and pass you.
