I think they are still not a part. Right?
yep, norway is exempt from this, since it's not an EU member state.
its times like this which scare the internet.
what about using game browsers?
will they moniter your ps3 online?
why wouldn't they?
Sadly the kind of people that pirate everything are the kind of people that sit on their ass all day and complain about everything, but I do hope some people have the guts to protest about this :ohdear:
Wait no the facebook page gives me hope that annonymous might do something about it, but I doubt it.
Remembering that Anonymous are worldwide, they could well have an effect if they chose to protest. If I had the transportation I would take part in protests in the east/ central England that would have an effect.
This will never be accepted for numerous reasons, like invasion of privacy for most, that`s agains the human rights, so there is like 0% percentage of chance for this thing to see reality, i don`t understand what`s all the fuzz about, seriously ....
worst suggestion ever.
edit: alright, seriously, why am i fucking being rated dumbs. a proxy won't do JACK SHIT.
Maybe because you're dumb? Just a suggestion.
Would this affect countries like Australia?
In the Wiki page it lists the regions that would be affected. And yes, australia is one of them :frown:
Well, what about tf2 servers that have some sounds in?
What if they put pirated music in a server, and you accidentally download it whileit connects to server? (For those who allow download sounds whil connecting to a server)
Most likely you would face charges on a criminal level as they would justify that you have no proof that you didn't put that illegal music in your game files by yourself.
If ACTA does get passed, say goodbye to downloading third-party, non-profit addons for your games because you might download illegal software of any form. Garry's Mod would come to a sudden, extreme end since user-generated content would no longer be legal to distribute.

What, if it's not illegal then it's fine. If it's model rips / ports then sure, but tools and stuff won't be affected. Besides, I don't think this will go through.

Proxies won't work though.
This will never pass in the United States. If it did, it would get pushed up to the Supreme Court and be deemed unconstitutional. So we're safe for now.
Would this mean all of Europe?
If so, I'm fucked :ohdear:
It can (has?) be blocked by individual countries. In theory countries can turn round and tell the EU where to stick it's laws if they want to (usually from pressure from populace).
If it's anything like the Digital Economy Bill for the UK, it's all a threat and nothing will fucking change at all.
At. All.
I believe its this (or something similar) which caused the anti piracy measures to be added to the DEB.
Given the general hatred against that, I would hope that anything related to this would be stopped.
Then again everyone thought the DEB was going to be stopped till like 300 MP's turned up.
Surely no sane person (who actually understands the internet and modern technology) can support this, even people against piracy.

Apart from the fact that it was the US (and Japans) idea.
I never download shit illegally anyway.
Apart from the fact that it was the US (and Japans) idea.
That doesn't matter. The Supreme Court is the most powerful court in the country, they would tear ACTA down in a second. In aspect, it's their job to defend and follow the constitution, regardless of any other reasons.
It doesn't matter if the president created the bill, the Supreme Court can still tear it down.

Isn't this above the Supreme Court's authority?
ACTA is dangerous because
4. ACTA requires that existing ISPs no longer host free software that has the possibility of including copyrighted media; this would substantially affect many sites that offer free software or host software projects such as SourceForge and Download.com. Most software we use on our computers are free. Are we to pay the price because of a misleading treaty?
Sites that provide addons, for example garrysmod.org, would be forced to shut down just because of the fact that some users upload copyrighted material.
If even only temporarily and illegally, an act can be passed and inflict harm on the general public. If ACTA does get passed, I have no doubt that the Supreme Court would have a field day in destroying it. I do have fears that ACTA would make a large mess by giving many good people a criminal record, this problem would take much time to resolve.
Can we please stop with the hourly "ACTA will end the world!!!!!!" threads? No one knows what this will do. Everyone are becoming paranoid conspiracy-nuts over this because we don't know what it does!
It's exactly what happened when few people understood what healthcare reform would do: soon the elderly were considering fleeing from Obama's death boards, believing that old people who get sick would be killed!
Even if worst comes to worst and the UN passes some outlandish anti-freedom treaty, the treaty still has to be adopted by the US Senate! Something like tha doesn't have a chance in hell of passing.

From my limited understanding of the US constitution this doesn't seem to actually break it (apart from the border searches of laptops but I think that was just a rumour).
You really have no hope in the US, I mean it is the country with the stupidest copyright law on the planet (DMCA).
Although this might 1 up it.
Also: To the people wondering about the EU, I just found this on wikipedia.
The European Parliament asserts that under the Lisbon Treaty the European Commission needs to provide "immediate and full information" to the European Parliament on international treaties, such as ACTA. The resolution also "stresses that, unless Parliament is immediately and fully informed at all stages of the negotiations, it reserves its right to take suitable action, including bringing a case before the Court of Justice in order to safeguard its prerogatives".
Moving away from the matter of piracy, (it does more than that). It seems that they are trying to prevent generic drugs being produced / sold which is just insane.
You forgot to mention http://savetheinternet.com/.

The reason why we're so paranoid over it is because ACTA's being negotiated in secret, as if it's a matter of national security.

US law classifies international treaties as state secrets.
We're screwed.

Dutch source. The European union will firmly refuse ACTA, even if other countries go with it.
