I can't see this making a good full-lenght film. Cool they got Sharlto Copley.
Ehhhh The idea just screams 'film student' and has been done hundreds of times before, so its not like some revolutionary or fresh idea, it just makes for a boringly shot movie. You need good shots to accompany good action, if the whole movie was shot like this it would get boring really quickly. Even the first-person action sections in stuff like Act of Valor looked like a fucking CS in Real Life video, it just doesn't work. I wish them the best of luck, but I'm seriously doubting it will be any good.
Are you kidding me? No movie or anything has ever even come close to doing first person action as well as the 2 music videos this guy made. [editline]5th November 2014[/editline] Also, do note that this isn't just being done by some random guy, Timur Bekmambetov is also involved in this who directed Wanted and a bunch of other movies in Russia.
Why does it have a tutorial if it's a movie. Movies doesn't require the audience to understand how to throw grenades and whatever
Meh, looks like one of those gimmicky digital sfx compilations by freddyw or corridordigital. It's like you take the hospital shootout from hard boiled and take all the practical effects out and replace them with the overused as fuck action essentials. It's not technically impressive nor convincing and the spectacle of it wears should off before the runtime ends after which its forgotten.
They're still looking for funding to make the actual effects so those are most likely placeholder ones for now.
Sure is music video was good. But that was only 5 minutes long and got boring for me after the 2nd minute. I just don't see a first-person perspective working for a feature length movie.
They should call it quits, because the trailer lasted about as long as the novelty does.
We only saw one action sequence in the style of the music video that everybody loved. I'll stay optimistic until we have some more footage before I judge it. I like PoV movies and I'm interested in how this will play out.
i enjoyed this video, the choreography was pretty impressive not sure about a feature-length movie though, it would probably get pretty repetitive [sp]the part when his hat flew off made me laugh a lot more than it should have[/sp]
Well, I liked Cloverfield, an action movie done in a similar method would be cool.
I'd probably watch this, but I really do hope it has some really cool stunts.
Well, I liked Cloverfield, an action movie done in a similar method would be cool.
That's found footage, it's totally different.
I couldn't handle a full feature movie with this deformed lens.
That's found footage, it's totally different.
I think it's pretty similar. You see stuff from the guy's perspective, it's all shaky, I think that the biggest differences would be that you can see the guy's arms, and that cuts will have to be more intricate.
No, the difference is that in this you're looking through a person's eyes, while in movies like Cloverfield you're looking through a camera that someone's holding, which will give a completely different perspective in some cases.
It's similar in the facts that it's a more realistic and down-to-earth view. Found footage and FPS views have faaar more similarities than regular filming methods.

i hope there's not a scene where he's taking a shit
Gaspar Noye did an amazing film from a first person perspective, Enter the Void. He did the blinks and everything. However, he is a bit more established than somebody who up until now has made a few music videos.
Did he use the Wilhem Scream in the preview?
why is it a fish eye lens. I dont see like that.
you do, but your perspective doesn't show you your entire cone of vision. you're basically living life with slight tunnel vision, and your peripheral vision is what we'd define as "fish-eye" also go-pros
Did he use the Wilhem Scream in the preview?
yes, and I'm 90% sure the russians that you hear further down the staircase before he grenades them are using stalker voices lmao
I mean if you can make it first person while still not so shakey to where I can distinctly make out what's going on in action scenes sure, but that video didn't really show it, was too vibratey for anything more than a short.
Neat idea, but the camera work is way too shakey to be watched for any decent length of time. Most people would leave the theatre by the half-way point due to motion sickness. They need to smooth it out and emulate how the Doom film did it.
good god the cringe
this has to be nonstop, varied action for this to work i honestly like the idea how it is but the action/effect level is minimal and it kind of makes this boring if it was over-the-top michael bay effects and didn't take itself seriously it would be pretty fuckin good

Just feels boring and sterile, but it a completely different way than the OP.
