Update from the last page, it turns out that bike was a big POS and needed a lot of work so instead i found another for a bit more money, but it has had the carbs rebuilt, new plastics, and was owned by the nicest chick
1 mile is best mileage
close enough?
How long did you ride the GS500 for? Asking because my GS500 that still pulls my ass like a rocket past 80 isn't a bike I'm going to "outgrow" (stupidest comment ever, by the way) any time soon. One thing I've learned riding so far is, unless you're going to trackdays, supersports are so stupid for a commuter.

Also on the whole outgrow thing, it's more like I'm afraid of finding out I would have enjoyed a slightly more powerful bike more. Also yeah, I've done a lot of research today and I've concluded that I'm going to try and get a Suzuki SV650s. It seems to be a much better choice all around (fuel economy, comfort, price...) and it has a more torque and hp than the GS500 but far less than the CBR. I also talked to a friend today who has an FZ6 which is pretty similar to the SV650 and he says the SV650 shouldn't be too much to handle for a beginner. I'm also planning to definitely take the MSF course before I would buy one.
You guys probably won't give a shit about this, but here's me as a 3 year old
It's great being able to ride my preferred bike again <3
That bike, used it many time at moose/grouse hunting, except i cannot pass the river with it because its filled with rock, so i was forced to use my father quad to use that shortcut.

Beast of a bike, i wanted this before untill i changed my mind and get a 4 stroke instead.

The entire reason I got interested in motorbikes, got my bike license and this bike was so I could do this kind of riding and finally, after getting this bike in March 2010 and my license in June this year, I have actually ridden out to the bush, explored some trails and ridden home. Fuckin' finally. wow that looks really fucking fun.
I really envy your environment anklyne.
I'm going to get a helmet cam as soon as I've got the moolah, so I'll post some videos for you blokes :v:
Gotta love the sandy trails, nothing like open throttle diggin through soft sand.
I hate soft sand. Fortunately all the tracks in that area are mostly hard packed dirt or pea-gravel.
I hate soft sand. Gotta love swingin' the tail out and sprayin sand on a friend. [editline]10th December 2011[/editline] Also, here's my dad's Harley. Starting smelling gas on the GS500 earlier and found out yesterday that there is gas beading up on the airfilter. Got a few ideas of what it could be but I'm not 100%. Happened right after I went for a quick ride and came back into my garage, which has a bump into it. Hit the bump and revs jumped to 4k and it was idling there until I turned it back down to 1.3 or say. Pissed off.
Anyone have experience with the Suzuki SV650?
Yes sir. Great bike, Feels like a cruiser rides like a Sports. [editline]11th December 2011[/editline] Heya guys, Just made an account. Thought it would be nice to contribute, Here's my Yamaha R6. Mostly OEM, just for the headlights and some carbon fiber here and there. Great bike overall. Past bikes: Ninja zx6r SV650 Ninja 250 Ask for pics if u want 'em! That Yoshi pipe looks really weird under the tail like that. Would've been beast if it was more form fitting like MVs are.
So I made up some cheap pannier bags out of some heavy cotton bags and then this morning I went through the drive-thru at McDonalds and got myself and a mate some breakfast after a long night of drinking. Had my first off on the black-top today. Back on sunday the speedo crapped out on me, so I fixed that today and went for a test ride (hadn't ridden since the weekend - may have had something to do with it). Cruising around in a car park, got a bit overzealous and went around a corner too quick at a T junction, lost traction, low-sided and came to a stop 4-5m later in front of a car that was turning. Bike scored a bent rear brake lever, I got this: Pretty minor really, but I'm still glad I was wearing a jacket, gloves, boots and kevlar jeans, despite the 30C temperature and warm sun.
Pretty minor really, but I'm still glad I was wearing a jacket, gloves, boots and kevlar jeans, despite the 30C temperature and warm sun.
Without these you would probably be hurting a lot more right now. My friend rides a 250 ninja but doesn't wear boots, I frequently remind him how easy it is to fuck up your ankles if you come off.
Without these you would probably be hurting a lot more right now.
Looking at my gloves, I wouldn't be surprised if I would've been down to the bone on a knuckle or two.
My friend rides a 250 ninja but doesn't wear boots, I frequently remind him how easy it is to fuck up your ankles if you come off.
A mate of mine only use to wear a helmet, jacket and gloves until he crashed his 250 ninja doing 120kph around a corner in an 80 zone (at night, in black gear). Broke several ribs and collapsed a lung. Sure, boots and kevlar pants wouldn't have prevented that, but he's always ATGATT now (All The Gear, All The Time).
Yeah, boots are like the #1 thing people forget when thinking about motorcycle gear. Even work boots aren't as protective as you think. The main thing I'm worried about is a peg coming through my shin, which is why I bought full ankle boots. And, GS500 gushed oil on a ride yesterday. Took off from a stop sign yesterday and the back end slipped out under barely any throttle so I was all "wtf?" Look down and see oil everywhere. Currently in the garage until I have time to find out where the fuck it's leaking from.
Took off from a stop sign yesterday and the back end slipped out under barely any throttle so I was all "wtf?" Look down and see oil everywhere.
The same thing happened to me once, with the difference that my fuel hose slipped off the carburetor :v:
what do you guys think about this gear? You really don't need to spend 900$ on gear IMO
They're good, although I think you could get them cheaper somewhere else. If you meant you don't need to spend that much on gear generally, then well, yeah...you don't, but it all comes down to what you want in terms of protection, comfort and features. Hell, I spent $400 alone on my boots (which are ridiculously comfy) and some people will spend over $900 on a helmet alone. I think this has been discussed previously in this thread. You shouldn't really skimp out on safety gear because it will serve it's purpose one day.
I think your priorities are a bit off, spend more on a helmet, less on gloves. youll notice the difference in helmets if you go to a shop and try different ones on
I think your priorities are a bit off, spend more on a helmet, less on gloves. youll notice the difference in helmets if you go to a shop and try different ones on
I am no longer getting those gloves. From what I read, for some reason, Alpinestars' gloves are shit quality. Their other gear is good, but people have had some issues with their gloves (falling apart, etc.). I'm going to buy a pair of Held gloves instead, which are supposedly one of the best, if not the best, motorcycle glove brand out there. As for the helmet, the Exo-400 is DOT and SNELL rated. It has received superb reviews and is considered one of the best helmets for its value. A $500 Shoei or Arai helmet is NOT going to offer better protection. With motorcycle helmets, virtually all of them offer the same protection because they have to adhere to DOT motorcycle safety standards. The reason for a higher priced helmet is due to things such as ventilation, weight, graphics, etc.
