wait another year, save for a 250cc bike (honda rebel maybe?) trust me, i've had a little honda 50cc bike since i was 12, i would never take it on the road for it's size. its just too little for commuting. 250cc bikes are good for beginners, eventually you'll get a good feel for the weight and you'll probably want to move up to a mid-sized bike.
In the UK you can't have a 250cc until 2 years after you have passed your test I think.
In the UK you can't have a 250cc until 2 years after you have passed your test I think.
Nearly correct; you are restricted to 33BHP until the 2 years are up. This can be on any CC as long as it has had its power output capped. If you are 21 or older. Then you can do direct access and have an unrestricted license right away.
I want to get my license but my mother says not until I have my driving license for a few years yet. She's a hypocrite and has a Honda R6.
She obviously just wants to protect you and give you time to develop a better road sense before setting you loose. Remember you don't have a ton of steel around you if you crash. Better to learn in a cage than on 2 wheels. It's only natural for mothers to want to protect their son.
I, too am a thumper man. Easy and fun to work on. Especially if you're a ratbiker. [editline]27th February 2011[/editline] More current, shittier picture. [img_thumb]http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/250/hippycycle.jpg[/img_thumb]
Haha, nice rat. I got a Savage, too, but it's been lying around disassembled in the garage for about a year now. I hope I'll get around to putting it back together this summer. Aiming for an old-school look with a peanut tank, ape hangers and the rear fender attached to the swingarm. The left one in this pic is my daily: It's a 2000 Cagiva Raptor. 999cc V2 from the Suzuki TL. 110hp, 105 Nm (about 78 lb-ft) Not a lot of top speed, but pulls like fucking hell. I remember a biker mag stating 3.2sec for 0-60mph. Also, I'm the dude on the left. Not the far left. That's a girl. [editline]17th April 2011[/editline]
If you REALLY need a vehicle, get a 50cc. But for fuck's sake get one with decent looks and power, say... [img_thumb]http://www.motopower.org/forum/files/apriliamaxreplica_rs50_503.jpg[/img_thumb] Yes, it's a 50cc. Yes, it does not look ridicule/garbage. Yes it can boost some nice punch if you know how to tweak it properly.
I disagree. If you've got get a 50cc, get something cheap. Don't waste your money on shit that wants look like something that it just can't be. Better save that money and get a real bike when you're old enough. Get a used Zündapp or something, the shittier it looks, the better. It'll be cheap, just as "fast", easy to maintain, and certainly more unique.
I used to have a Suzuki TS 125 X, from 1983 :v:. Had to sell it though, wasn't road worthy and the local offroad riding area of wasteland got fenced off by some developers :saddowns:. Passed my CBT and hoping to get a trailie soon though.
My moped gang will demolish you bikers.
I think i'm going to get a bike. Any recommendations? It has to be 125cc I think
I've got a 98' model of this. It's blue in the front and red in the end. 40 MP/h is good enough for me. [editline]17th April 2011[/editline] I've also got one of these babies:
I've never driven a Cagiva, but hot damn, it looks like a fun fucking bike. Stubby frame, short gearing, I bet that thing is a blast on curvy roads.
It IS a fun fucking bike and a blast on curvy roads. On the tour where that pic was taken there was a section where I almost literally cried tears of joy. I was definitely screaming and laughing into my helmet. There's a review on the net by a German biker mag from when the Raptor was fresh on the market; the only negative thing they had to say about it was that the high footpegs and the low seat make it uncomfortable for people over 6ft. The TL engine is also not the best for city traffic because it likes to "buck" (i don't know what the right word is but I hope you get the meaning) when you go from coasting to accelerating in the lower rpms. [editline]18th April 2011[/editline]
1,000 gear!? I paid 100 for helmet, I got the jacket for free but Its a $200 jacket so i'd say 300 and I got gloves for free as well which would normally cost about 40 So gear for me is 340, I don't wear leather pants or textile pants just regular jeans, as well as high top shoes or cowboy boots. Motorcycle course for me only cost 100 Insurance is cheap as well.. I pay around 20 a month.
Do yourself a favor and at least get a pair of kevlar jeans. When I was 15 I crashed my scooter at a speed that was hardly faster than what you'd do on a bicycle. I was wearing jeans, and I couldn't walk properly for a week because my knees were rashed so badly. So imagine what good those jeans will do you at 50mph. You'd better ride in your underpants then - less work for the doctors picking the cloth fibres out of your flesh. Not saying it's gonna happen. Not saying I've never sat on my bike wearing jeans. Just saying I think it's not worth risking your skin for such a little bit of comfort. Actually I'm sitting here in my leather pants right now. I got off my bike 3 hours ago, and I'm still quite comfortable.
I myself have an 08 Kawasaki Ninja 250r. I am looking for an upgrade, as I have been riding for 2 and a half years. I am looking for a BMW 1100 or 1150 RT P.

Do you have three thousand american dollars?
Do you have three thousand american dollars?
Nope but I got $5.19 on my paypal. Kidding where do you live?
Does it count if I have a moped? I've got a Honda MT5 which I have tuned with a 65cc cylinder, a better exhaust system and a 16.5mm carburetor (is it spelled like that?). When I got it it was all original and its top speed was about 30km/h, with the current setup it goes about 70km/h and is about 3 times stronger than original. Looks a bit like this one I've also got a Yamaha Chappy that is entirely original!
So, looking through this thread, I come to realize that mopeds hardly look like scooters. For some reason I always thought that mopeds were almost the same thing; is it an American thing or am I just ignorant?
Moped is quite a wide category
Nope but I got $5.19 on my paypal. Kidding where do you live?
I live in California, in north sacramento.
I live in California, in north sacramento.
Michigan. :saddowns:
That is quite the way. Well, good luck in getting your next bike!
Son, time to get a license and a bike. No you can't have that bike the insurance is €3,500. Fuck. Need a job to get a bike to get to my Job.
Son, time to get a license and a bike. No you can't have that bike the insurance is €3,500. Fuck. Need a job to get a bike to get to my Job.
Is insurance really that expensive in the EU?
I live in California, in north sacramento.
Far out, I live on H Street in downtown Sacramento for about a third of the year.
Anybody know if there are any places other than craigslist I can look for a used bike?
craigslist is probably the best, but there's cycletrader, and you could try the forums for whatever bike you're looking at buying
Cycle Trader can be a Godsend if you're not down with the Craigslist.
but cycletrader doesn't seem to have as many/as good of deals
Well I am looking for a honda cbr 250r or a ninja 250r.
Well I am looking for a honda cbr 250r or a ninja 250r.
Craigslist is your best bet, then. I got my bike off of Craigslist years ago and it's been a beauty.
Craigslist is your best bet, then. I got my bike off of Craigslist years ago and it's been a beauty.
I am not against craigslist, I just wanted something to look at along with it.
