Time to go riding...
I was thinking about taking my bike I've never driven completely apart over winter and rebuilding it. starting tomorrow, I plan on trying to take it apart as much as I can, and keeping it all organized as possible so's not to fuck up. I'm pretty well equipped on tools and a dad who knows his shit. I myself have nearly fuck all for experience, just a few mechanics classes and taking apart 2-stroke motors, cleaning them and rebuilding them. My bike is a 4-stroke Yamaha 225XT, i've never driven a bike before, although mine works fine I just haven't had the chance to take it out before winter. More experience in Quading, I'd like it to just cruise on trails and shit. Oh yeah, Does any one have any experience with this? I plan on spending all day tomorrow taking it apart as much as I can. Is this a good idea? Most likely clean it too, I think it has like 93k km on it.

I just spent an hour in mysterious world of the wiring loom trying to get my pilot light to work. and it was cold, dark and aggravating, oh and wet.
Yeah, pretty big heated garage with all the tools I need.
Yeah, pretty big heated garage with all the tools I need.
Providing their is also lots of space around the bike, a meter (5 feet) should do your in business and should have no problems. Just don't get ahead of yourself and end up with bits of bike everywhere and no way of putting it all back together, best of luck to you!
My friend once dis-assembled his moped, had the frame sitting in the corner of his room and engine on a desk where he worked on it
I have a laundry list for my motorcycle. Clean carbs, replace valve cover gasket, replace front fork seals, get new tires, and i wish i could find a stock seca 2 exhaust because the fucktard who owned it before me replaced the exhaust header and it is pushed up against the oil filter. You have to take the headers off to get to the oil filter and it makes the oil really hot. If I had known about that I would not have bought it.

People just can't be trusted these day.
Well i wouldnt mind if it had aftermarket headers. BUT HAVE A FUCKING CLUE AND PUT ON ONES THAT ARE SIZED PROPERLY FOR THE BIKE. It take me an extra half hour to do the oil change because I have to take off the exhaust header to get to the filter. Plus the filter stays hot as shit all the time.
Yeah I'm wary of aftermarket exhausts on bikes after the catastrophe with mine. I mean, having to take off the exhaust every time I change the oil is a pain in the ass and adds an extra charge because I have to replace the exhaust gaskets too.
Im going to see if my machinist friend cant modify the pipes with a pipe bender to let me access the filter easier.
Just gonna leave this here ...Ouch

My brother tried to ride my motorcycle today, only to learn that he cant shift up because he is missing a muscle in his left leg that wont let him rotate his foot upwards. Any ideas on what he can do because he really wants to ride?
Get a suicide shifter? There's really no other option unless he gets an automatic bike.
He could violently jerk his entire leg upwards, hitting his rigid foot into the shifter. Other than that, he could get an automatic bike.
They make a universal kit for most bikes now that puts a motor on the shifter so you just have to press the clutch and use an independant motor. They want 800 dollars for it though, it seems like it could be built for the price of the motor, wires, and switch.
Went for a ride today. Beautiful outside, and the roads I've found are awesome and they're really close.

It's been relatively warm here and is going to be the next few days. I really need gear for sub-40F temps, so these 55+ days coming up are nice.

Rode to work today, riding to work tomorrow. Awesome days, gonna be sad to see the cold return.
I think I might have done the wrong thing buying a bike this close to winter. It's always cold, often raining, always dark when I get around to riding. I also think I bought the wrong bike. I think I can manage about 62 mph according to the speedo, and my sit-up-and-beg position means I'm completely open to all the elements. Probably going to sell it soon, after Christmas once I get back from Thailand. But I still want to do my full motorbike license at some point. After March I'll be able to bring my car to uni so I won't really need a bike after that. I also have to wait until August when I turn 19 to be able to get a 250 bike, and another two years after that until I can get a 600 (UK laws are dumb). Funny thing is my Mum still doesn't know I bought a bike :v:
Just spend a little extra money on rain gear. You can spend about 300 USD and get a nice set of weatherproof gear and that should be fine with the elements. I do hate that I bought mine so close to winter but I only paid 800 dollars for a 600cc bike. I just need some better gloves for weather and ill be good. I just need to get my full endorsement so i can ride at night because it gets dark so soon.
Just dropped the bike. Putting it on the centerstand in the garage and it was off balance and I couldn't keep it from falling. Was so pissed, thinking my bar end mirror was going to be trash, but it folded up with but a scratch. Other than that and a bit of gas leaking out, it's fine.
Finally managed to book a test for my unrestricted license. Hopefully come ~11AM next wednesday I'll be able to legally ride any bike I can get my hands on :D
found a bike like mine being parted out. Paid 150 bucks for the exhaust headers, mufflers, blinkers, and brake lever. I got that shit for a steal
So I was having trouble starting my Jetforce on my way home, the kick start wasn't springing back (hope this isn't going to be a big problem, or if it's even still doing it), and when it finally started I decided to give it some throttle to stop it from cutting out again. Regardless it cut out a few times but it started running after a while. I noticed that I'd had my hand on the rear brake (needs to be on for the bike to start) the whole time and assumed that it was that that had caused it to cut. And oddly, the whole ride home the bike felt like it had a lot more power than it did on the way there. I don't understand what happened. :iiam:
Sounds like it was just cold
