I'm curious - How did everyone learn to ride? I was just watching some videos of people's first time even touching a bike, and they end up doing uncontrolled wheelies or just faceplanting and in general fucking up. I never took an MSF course, nor did I have a 'beginner bike', as I started on my current Monster. It just felt natural the first time I rode it, didn't have any problems at all really. I'm sure I'm not alone with that, though.
I was about 12 when I got a little two stroke PW-80 I've still got it but it's not running though I've been riding ever since.

I am glad there arent restrictions on size of bikes for licenses in US, I'm 6'3" and I've sat on 500's and 250's. I don't fit.
What about supersports? They aren't bigger (and are lighter) than my 500.
I would think the smaller bikes would be more comfortable for taller people, seeing as their handlebars are typically in a more standard position (even on the Ninja 250) than bigger bikes.
I've got a 98 xj600. It all depends on the bikes but I looked at cruisers for a while and none of them were my size. My legs were always too high up (long legs) until I got into the 750cc range. Sport bikes were a lot better but a lot of the 250's just felt too small for me. And now that I have my 600 I wouldnt want anything less, it is a standard bike with 45hp when tuned properly and even when it isnt, it still has more than enough power for what I need so I would feel safe if I had to haul ass out of someones path.

I always see all these army guys riding around on base on little honda rebel 250's and it makes me laugh at how small the things are. It looks like they are riding things that are way too small for them because their legs are almost up to their chest.

I think smaller sport tourings might be a good size, havent sat on many of them or ridden many. A few almost looked too tall for me with how high the seat was.
I had the best dream last night
It was warm enough that the roads were unfrozen and even though there were huge snowbanks you could ride your bike, then I woke up and looked outside and was disappointed :(

Why the fuck don't we get these in the states?
I'm so damn limited when it comes to middleweights, which is really what I want for my next bike. Might just have to get a GSX-R750.

It looks like it's in the US to me.

I have a lot of knowledge of US garages. Trust me. At least, I can compare a few to a common British garage and they look nothing like that. Most people don't even have garages.

I hope that's a naked xj6. One from around the same period is something I'd be looking at as my first real bike.
Nah, that's Australia.

should've guessed, every australian and their dog owns some sort of kawasaki

Story time.
My dad sold his RF600 to my Uncle about 10 years ago. He's not been using it, it's just been sat in his garage for around 3 years without even being turned over. It was last taxed in 05, but he insists that until about 2009/2010 he would go out and let it run now and again.
Well, we got it back off him as a little project. It's great, cosmetically it's still showroom quality even after 20 years. We've cleaned out the fuel tank, cleaned up the carbs and it's actually running. Tires need changing, chain needs replacing, and the bar-ends are a bit rusty - but other than that it's completely fine. Really nice to see it running again after all this time.

not naked...yet, i am debating on keeping the fairings or not. I am actually about to do a repair on them but I like having them just in case it does drop because those break instead of the frame/forks/engine. That and it is so damn cold without it on.

Damn 104hp. That must be fun.
I really dig that naked sport bike look.
There was a Z1000 for sale for $2700 a few months ago that I almost bought. If it wasn't for the fact that I was still fixing my GS500 I would've bought it in a heartbeat.
Ordered new tires, Metzler Lasertec's. 270 dollars later.
oh wow, wrong thread.
My dads got a Triumph Thruxton.

One of those things, it's badass.
Prepped the fairing today, sanded the cracked areas, taped them back up so they are flush to eachother, just need to cut up the abs plastic sheet and cement it up.
Went to a motorcycle show today in D.C. and saw a lot of the new models manufacturers are coming out with. Sat on a bunch of supersports and honestly the one that felt the best to me in terms of being comfortable was definitely the GSX-R1000 I sat on (which happened to be their million commemorative edition). It was really nice whereas the ZX-6R was probably a little bit more aggressive and the R6 was almost a pain. I could flatfoot the GSX-R, one foot/tiptoe the R6 and ZX-6R. Another thing I didn't like about a lot of newer bikes coming from my antiquated GS500 is that their tanks are all super wide at the top. It makes it really uncomfortable to hug the tank with my legs and overall messed up my balance.
But in terms of looks, goddamn the new ZX-10R is amazing.
Does anyone here have any good tips on selling motorbikes?
Got me a new backpack for the bike. Rapid transit shrapnel.

quick question, is it illegal for bikes to zip between cars in gridlock?
also when I opened this thread I thought it would be this kind of bike
[t]http://puu.sh/1KWjb[/t]
In Australia yes. Called lane splitting when traffic is moving. You can kind of get away with it if traffic is stationary though.
And if you're gonna do it, ride slowly between the cars as some motorists don't like it and will try and take you out.

It's illegal in all the US except for California which doesn't outright prohibit it.
I think it's legal in the UK and Australia. Don't know about other places.

Thanks for the info though! I don't have a bike and don't trust myself to ever really have one but they seem like more fun than a car!
