Thrift Shopping & Antiquing V2: the kirederf museum of unnatural deals
It was a college that canned the art, science, music, and drama departments all at once, there's tonnes of art supplies, costumes, and laboratory glassware that I didn't photograph
Honestly there's probably real money in the glassware
I'd take the reel to reel and some of the electrical stuff, some of that looks pretty old and old electrical in working condition brings money from anyone in restoration. The costumes could be valuable too. A lot of costume departments stock clothes that were just old donated junk, which are now worth a lot of money in good shape. Look for suits and coats especially. Any kind of handmade shoes are good, boots too tend to bring big money. There is an antique dealer in my town who only buys old boots from estate sales and routinely sells boots he paid 5-10 dollars for for over $100. Dresses are also big money right now.
This thing looks cool:

So I’ve been busy looking around for records lately. Found these last week.

I was super surprised that I still didn't own the DVD of my favourite movie (Some Like It Hot) so I decided to explore.
Got lucky a few weeks ago and found the movie at my local charity shop for a whopping 50p.
Went home and decided to watch it right then and there. Opened it only to find one of Eminem's albums in there instead of the movie. :goodjob:

Lesson learned. Always check the disk.
I bought some records from a local shop and they had all been switched around by retards. Since it put me out like 30 bucks I took them back and the guy was super nice about it, he still gives me like half off records from him and it's been 2 years now :v:

They tape all of the DVD's and CD's closed whenever they shelve them, but yeah, I should have checked either way :v:

Just ask them to open it before you buy it.
I accumulated a ton of stuff this past year. This is my camera collection now. It's getting out of hand :v:

Three of my most recent finds :
Warcraft 3 and the Frozen Throne expansion - 0.50€ each.
Starpeace (Full package with the guide. Disc looks mint, the box has some wear around the edges.) - 0.50€
Ok, been meaning to go back to that thrift shop that just opened near me for awhile now. But I finally got there, and picked up a Super 8/8mm projector!

I also bought two films with it as well.

Oh my god I am so happy there is a thriftshopping thread! Me and my partner like to go to different antique and thrift shops to find unusual or strange decorations for our house!
We have lots of strange or creepy paintings and stuff. I'll have to take a picture!
Welcome!

found these at an estate sale yesterday
and what i guess they thought was the manual for Carmen Sandiego because it was in the box

and these upstairs

Been poking my head into secondhand stores and the like whenever im out as of late but its genuinely impossible to find anywhere with stuff for cheap/unknown value because every single joint that sells old junk has decided to capitalise on the whole "its old therefore expensive" train that seems to be the trend these days.
Went into what used to be a junk warehouse the other day and its now an "antique" store. All the old stuff that previously wouldve been considered old crap is now on display being sold for premium prices.
Want a plastic globe the size of your fist that looks like it was made in the 50's? $100

That reminds me, I need to pull out and hook up that Apple II I got from one of my mom's old hoarder friends, and see if it works at all...
It seems pretty decked out. Got the printer, monitor, dual floppy drive, Z80 card...

I mean why wouldn't you expect globes from the 50s to be expensive? Those have never been cheap at retail prices for antiques.
I mean why wouldn't you expect globes from the 50s to be expensive? Those have never been cheap at retail prices for antiques.
Globes are specifically expensive because they are such a good piece of decoration. I have a few vintage globes and I've enjoyed dating them by playing the who still has their African colonies game.
Yeah, old globes have never been cheap. If you've ever compared antique globes to newer globes in terms of build quality and detail the differences are kind of embarrassing. Unless you're spending over $200, globes these days are just trash.
Globes and maps are just buckets of fun, I think everyone appreciates them regardless of their interest in antiques, so they sell for more than more niche items.
I went into a thrift store yesterday and saw a Panasonic Turntable/Cassette combo unit, but I was busy and I don't have a lot of cash, so I didn't ask how much it cost for fear of talking myself into buying something I couldn't fix. Now I just looked it up, and I think it's an RS-257, which goes for $300+ on Ebay in working condition.
I think I should go back there and at least ask.

I could understand if it had a wooden base or was high quality but the thing was just some plastic toy.

Not the exact one but you get the idea, doesn't exactly scream 'antique collectable item' to me.

I bought one very much like that (the lady said it was 50's) for $3 last year lol

So I managed to find a Canon G-III QL17 at Goodwill and picked it up for $7. I'm going to try to flip it on Ebay.

Found this at a local shop today. There's writing on the back - unfortunately I'll never know what it says because some jackass glued it to the backing paper. Oh well

Might be able to read it with the help of super strong light and some photoshop skills

I can't make out the words with a light, only that they're there. The glue is making them real fuzzy.

Forgot to mention I also picked this up for $3 at Goodwill. It was real wobbly at the base where it swivels and I ultimately had to disassemble the entire swing arm to get at the screw that had come loose. Loctited that shit and then had to put it back together 3 times to get it right. Such a pain in the ass. Cool old lamp though. Still haven't cleaned it up but I'm fucking beat.

Here it is all cleaned up. Really brought out that lovely shade of depressing industrial/institutional off-white.
