Not Fair Everybody Deserve The Right To Cloth
They also deserve the right to not have their shit stolen by random fucking thieves, but I don't see you defending that entitlement.
Don't worry I didn't steal them

I found Nightcrawler on BluRay and Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? in paperback yesterday for £4, there's a little Oxfam bookshop near me and every time I go there I've found something great that I've bought
so my mum bought a piano she saw outside an antique shop for £10. turns out it was made in Berlin at least 116 years ago. aside from being out of tune and having a couple sloppily-replaced keys it's practically in perfect condition as far as we can tell
I remember reading that pianos that old become nightmarishly difficult to tune. But 10 pounds for any antique furniture is a good price.
i found some records at a collectibles store yesterday.
i paid $25 for 9 records 2 of which were free.
it was a good day.

Battery appears to be fucked so I can't use the rangefinder, but the compass and overall condition of the unit is fantastic
might be able to hook up a replacement depending on the expected voltage
Found some more records and a wax cylinder tube on Thursday.

46 antique vacuum tubes, mostly NIB, for $7. Not too bad I think. Will be going through them with my tube tester soon.
I inventoried and priced all of the tubes. The total market value is $518. All of them test good on my Knight tester.
Stupid question but, what are vacuum tubes? You mentioned Philco which made parts for the old televisions right? Are these for vacuuming or for televisions?
In short vacuum tubes are predecessors to transistors, They are used for processing and amplifying signals in devices such as tv's, radios, computers and so on... Vacuuming has nothing to do with them, except in their manufacturing process, in which air is removed from them, to allow electrons to move freely inside them.
Ive picked up a lot of old books from thrift shops. These two were the most recent good finds in 1-2 dollar bargain bins.
(1898, but sadly the spine is in really really bad condition.)

(publishing date on this one is mid 1800s, but I don't think its a first edition, and its not listed under his works, so I really don't know.)

That first book looks to be about the Spanish American War which occurred in 1898. It’s always cool when you have an antique book covering an event the year that it happened.
I'd actually be really interested in buying that second one, I'm a sucker for all things napoleonic wars-related
Let me know if you'd be up for it!
I found something pretty amazing at a local antiques shop today

Seem like an ordinary framed embroidered flowers right?
Well, this is on the back of it;

It says;
SECRET ARMY
HIDEOUT - LEUVEN (the town that I live in)
DEPARTMENT KESSEL-LOO (Village near the town)
This is an original hand painted piece from the local resistance during WWII!
It was made like this so they could easily flip the frame if there was a search.
I got it for 25 euros!
Holy shit nice find dude
I got a copy of King of Tokyo in Polish for £1... Unsure as to what to do with it (Everything is in Polish and as I don't speak it, it makes it a lot more difficult to play).

I got this 1937 Watterson for free. A lady was selling off a deceased relative's things and I met her to buy a chessboard and she was throwing this radio away. It actually mostly works amazingly enough. It clearly lived outside for a long time but incredibly the internal wiring is mostly fine and all the tubes come right on. I haven't tested them on my tester but visually they look almost brand new. The only thing technically wrong with it is that the tuner string snapped... and I'm not sure how it's supposed to work. The speaker is also slightly torn but that's the case on basically all radios of this age.
Quick reminder that we have a cool discord here that you should probably join if thrifting interests you because megathreads are being cracked down on and I'm not sure what they're going to do with thrift. https://discord.gg/hj47A8w
I've been into antiquing for a while now, and my main area of interest is vintage and antique fans. Been collecting them for about 7 years now. Here's one of my more recent finds from Craigslist:

I bought this beautiful condition baby at an Estate sale when I was about 16.
Had her almost ten years, still my favorite.

Here's a big fan I got a long time ago. It didn't work at all when I got it but I was able to tear it down, clean it up, lubricate it and reassemble it and now it's perfect. Absolute beast of a fan dating to the 40s or 50s. This thing blows shit around in my garage when it's on.
I have a small, depressing, Sadness Grey painted 1930s era fan as well. No pictures but here's a video of the sound it made when I first got it. A friend described it as a toucan having an extended orgasm.

Those Spartans are nice fans, they were manufactured by FASCO (F.A. Smith Co.) for Montgomery Ward. FASCO also produced their own 'Arctic Aire' lineup of fans. Chicago Electric Sterlings aren't bad either, nothing fancy but they do the job.
Here's the largest one I have in my collection, it's a 1940s 24" GE pedestal. Weighs in the neighborhood of 105lbs when it's assembled. It was another Craigslist find, had to drive over to Rutland, VT to collect it from someone who pulled it out of a restaurant kitchen. After being in that environment for such a long time, it was completely filthy. Had to repaint the cage, pole, and base. I don't want to totally flood the thread, but I can post some before and after pics if anyone wants to see. Right now I'm waiting for nicer weather so I can change the color of the cage, I found some paint that's much closer to the factory appearance.

For a size comparison here's a 10" Westinghouse sitting next to this fan's blade:

Holy shit, that blade is incredibly awesome looking.
Also I didn't pay much for the Sterling (like 20 or 30 bucks) and the Spartan was free. The Spartan came out of a wood shop so it looks like it's been sandblasted. The blend of bare steel and ugly brown paint looks kinda cool in person. Didn't know about its history, thanks for the tidbit.
These things are real neat, I'd love to see the pictures. Try linking them as an imgur album or something if you don't wanna stretch the page, not sure if that works.

Good idea, this should work.
That grease on the cage is absolutely foul. Great work.
Solid silver coin stamped with Bernard von NotHaus's signature stamp. He's semi-famous for trying to start his own bank that uses silver which worked out quite well until having gotten shut down and having his precious metals confiscated in 2009.
You can email Mr. NotHaus and he gets back to you kind of like Gabe Newell used to do. 5,000 of these were minted. Listing it on ebay for 100 bucks which is how much it's worth. I bought it because I thought that the engraver who made the design did an impressive job. Best 18 bucks I ever spent.
