I think everyone wants to be the special little snowflake, and get offended by bullshit. Idiots, is who they are.
i've been saying the same thing for like a year now, everyone just WANTS to be offended by something all the fucking time
Yup, pretty much. For some, it's a profession - look at McIntosh, Professional White Guilt Victim.
Bullshit words can't hurt you!

How does it feel being so weak that mere words hurt you?
You guys don't seriously think that words can't hurt someone, do you?
You guys don't seriously think that words can't hurt someone, do you?
Shhh, just be quiet and grab the dick of the guy to your right while I grab yours.

i literally want to nuke the earth right because of this
Wouldn't be surprised if someone sent this email just to stir up shit. Please, this has to be satire.
Dan reminds me of Jeremy Clarkson, in the "I don't give a fuck, I will make my jokes, you'll all still pay me" kind of way. And it's great. We need more people like him, to constantly prod the squishy, writhing mass of offended people that I presume exists somewhere.
I love how everyone is falling hook, line and sinker for this obvious troll bait.
Poe's Law. It looks like a legit email, and also a parody of such an email. [editline]6th April 2015[/editline]
This, I used to call people faggots for like 3 or 4 years before I learned what the english definition of that word was.
To be fair, it's a really fun word to say.
Yes it's very important that some nerd makes a 9 minute video about a stupid email (that's probably bait) he received so people on Facepunch can jerk it to the fourth "political correctness run amok" thread this hour.
You come of as really desperate and bitter if you twist what people said to that extent you know.
I don't care what people say if it's in good taste and isn't directed to anyone. But even if not, I'll likely ignore it.
You guys don't seriously think that words can't hurt someone, do you?
There are things that can be hurtful- plenty of things, in fact. Targetted death threats are a pretty fucking terrifying thing. However, a joke which may or may not be about transgender people is not something I would say is particularly hurtful- as a transgender person. Only an arsehole would think that words can't ever hurt.
To be fair, it's a really fun word to say.
all the fun words are the worst words. nigger, faggot, cunt, all my favorite words to say but they have that whole "meaning" behind them that ruins the whole thing
The Problem with the whole social justice and political correctness obsession that is going on right now is that people try really hard to be fanatically, fundamentally progressive. But guess what, Progression doesn't work that way. You cannot actively enforce the values of tomorrow's society today, as YOU figure society should evolve. For all we know, society as a whole might as well do a complete 180 and become backwards blackface level offensive. Values change, but not according to the direction of a small group that wills it so. Tomorrow's progress just doesn't exist today and just because some people figure things SHOULD head in a certain direction, doesn't mean THE ENTIRE REST OF PEOPLE share that opinion. I generally agree, that kindness, respect and the consideration of the feelings of others are values worth pursuing, but people are just cherry picking words, groups, issues that they try to change with such extreme vigilance that all they can hope to achieve is alienating everyone else before fading into obscurity. This is not how progress works. And that's not regarding the fact, that considering the feelings of EVERYONE WHO MIGHT EVER BE OFFENDED is so short sighted that I'm puzzled that those people can't even smell the incredible amount of bullshit they carry in front of them. You can't say anything interesting, stimulating or colourful without offending SOMEONE. Here in Germany a few old people in grey suits that work in big grey buildings think violence is offensive in media, so we spent an insane amount of effort on banning every violent video game ever, cutting minutes worth of footage from action movies and infamously replacing people with robots or aliens. Everyone else kind of fucking hates this. You can NEVER hope to fix things by adressing the minor interests of EVERY small group instead of going with the majority. Its not for social rules or even laws to protect those issues of people feeling offended. It's everyone's personal responsibility. It's NOT everyones responsibility to remind everyone ELSE of their responsibility. People should just listen to each other on a personal level and make sensible choices. I know people who have actual, serious traumata and I feel it is my responsibility to not expose them to content they find upsetting or even cause flashbacks. That's it, problem solved! I have a few phobias of my own and I appreciate people watching out for that, but I do in no way EXPECT anyone to change their behavior. It is also in my own responsibility to watch out for myself. For example, I have an extreme fear of being sick. Watching people being sick is unbearable to me and I am constantly, overly aware of people showing signs of discomfort or illness. I don't leave the house when I hear a stomach virus is going around, but that is my OWN PERSONAL PROBLEM. When it becomes an issue, people are drinking or I'm about to watch a movie, I take precautions such as asking if there are going to be any scenes that I would find upsetting or I just tell people to give me a heads up if they are feeling sick so I can bail. That Is it. A little bit of common sense and some mutual respect. There is no need for some self-proclaimed social activist to barge in and demand to censor everything I or someone with similar problems might find upsetting. Just use your fucking heads and be a LITTLE considerate of others, that's all we need to do, nothing more, not write angry mails at game designers and youtubers
It really just comes down to balance. Nothing is universally acceptable or universally distasteful, but some things come close. The word "bitch" is an example of something that comes close to universally acceptable; whereas something like shouting racial slurs on the bus comes close to being universally distasteful. If you're doing the latter and someone gets offended, it's your own damn fault. If you're doing the former and someone gets offended, the impetus isn't really on you to change. But there's still a clear line between being respectful and being disrespectful, and the mere suggestion that you stop doing something generally regarded as acceptable just to please them isn't an excuse to become an asshole. How DanNerdCubed handled this is a prime example of how not to handle something. There's a difference between using bitch casually in comedy and directly calling someone a bitch, especially after that person did nothing to insult you in the first place. He could have said "No, I don't feel there's anything wrong with what I'm saying so I'm not going to stop saying it. If the content of my videos bothers you then you should stop watching them", but he had to jump straight to being rude and that definitely doesn't help his case. There was absolutely no indication that he was purposely trying to upset people before but now he is.
all the fun words are the worst words. nigger, faggot, cunt, all my favorite words to say but they have that whole "meaning" behind them that ruins the whole thing
Cunt is fair to use in Australia. Faggot and nigger we can't use though because the stigma attached to it. It really sucks though because the words are so satisfying and fun to use phonetically, they need to be reclaimed.

Really shows how context matters. Like take my main skype group I'm in with my friends, we have three black dudes and like six+ gay people, faggot and nigger gets thrown around so much in there nowadays :v: It's turned into like an affectionate insult in there by now. It's always hilarious seeing the reactions when someone new gets added to it.
all the fun words are the worst words. nigger, faggot, cunt, all my favorite words to say but they have that whole "meaning" behind them that ruins the whole thing
In the end it has to do with the 'audience'. You wouldn't catch me saying those words in public because I'm not certain everyone I'm speaking to is OK with that kind of language. But in my close circle of friends, it's all good, we know this language is facetious and not legitimate hate. We have a bunch of different sexualities in our little group and we all throw around the word faggot because none of us are hurt by anyone using it.
