Because it's a large piece of machinery for use in a hotel which is used to clean very large amounts of clothes, bed sheets and what not.
Lots of small things get lost in there, they were jeans for a 7 year old.

It is giving you a challenge to locate two identical socks. Confirm your completion of the challenge by placing the pair back inside the dryer, it should then stop its sock generation.
One time, I put in 2 socks and got out 6. I was SO confused.
