Of course.
We plan to do a "Raters Gonna Rate" World Tour with at least 50 shows.
50p a ticket :smug:
Complete with giant laser holograms of each rating icon.
Least time actually had a song in it though
I just said "good musically". :raise:
I don't think concept albums have to be complex anyway, Dark Side of the Moon had some of the simplest music.
Then again, we're only Facepunch.
DSOTM is so weird in that the music is so unique, yet so simple. The way the music is played, it seems like there is much more there than there is.
Least time actually had a song in it though
I think we disagree on the part of it really being experimantal, as while it's "experimental", it's still quite cliche to put in a clock or whatever.

Pink Floyd tell you how to feel, that's the beauty of it.

I personally think the clock makes sense in that song.
The stereo effect works. :v:

Of course it makes sense, but it's to be expected, so in my opinion, it's not so experimental.

Fair enough, I was referring only to how clocks mix into the beat.
Just another shout that another project is going on.

Most of these are pretty bad sorry i won't be downloading this.

It would be nice if you could give people more criticism than "most of these are pretty bad".
Ok here's what i think of all of them:
1. Reset Panda - An Agreement
I don't know what's going on in the background, but the little conversation just seems pointless and poorly recorded. Get a better microphone or invest in a pop filter.
2. Clovis - I Disagree, Reginald
The beat is pretty cool, but it could use more oomph. Are these drums compressed at all? It has a minimalist sound, but i can't tell if that was intended or not. The arp in the beginning sounds exactly like one of the starter presets in FL studio. Once the second synth starts, it gets pretty cool. I like the concept with the sound clip, but i'll give the mixing a thumbs down.
3. Funktastic Dog - Dylan's 420th Dream
The guitar playing is poorly recorded. That's excusable, because not everyone has nice microphones to record with, but it's also mediocre playing. It's the same three chords over and over again, banged out with as much finesse as an orangutan on speed. Don't even get me started on the singing. It was painful.
4. Hakita - Sunlight
This could have been good if it wasn't a midi file.
5. Puddlez - Buzzsaw
Another piece that suffers from bad mixing. The drums are well done and the synths all sound interesting, but the drums sound tinny and have no presence. I like the use of sound clips, and delay(?). My favorite part is around 2:20. Overall, a step in the right direction. I could actually tell this was meant to be the lightning bolt rating without looking at the track list.
6. Puddlez - Information
Cool, some DnB. I like the drum sequencing. Mixing could be a little better, drums are punchy but still sound weak. I don't like the little voice quips. "Do you know what information is?" Say something more interesting. I like the part where there's like a pad going and you can't make out the words but it blends together to make an interesting sound.
7. Reset Panda - Forever
This track seems out of place, because it's the only track on the album so far that has real instruments (synths that sound like real instruments). I like it. Should have had a stand up bass in there for the avant garde jazz feel. Overall the best track so far. I don't like the way it just fades out.
8. Akayz - Tool For You, Tool For Me
I can tell immediately that this is the tool song; and not in an annoying in your face way. Once the vocals(?) start in, it gets kind of annoying. Piano sounds good; should be louder. Can you take the filter off the drums at some point?
9. Pepin - Friends
Ok, instrumental is good; at least in the way that cheesy bar karaoke versions of songs are good when you're inebriated. The singing makes me want to smash my head against my desk. Seriously, i couldn't listen to it all the way through because i hated it so much.
10. KanonieR - Orion
Opening chords sound pretty cheesy. I like the crash symbol and bass entrance. Reverb on the drums sounds awful. The chord progression gets boring after a while. I mean, it's just two chords. I like the part around 3:16 when the chord progression switches. Overall decent. I couldn't tell what
11. Akayz - Late At The Gates of Hysteria
Homage to pink floyd i'm guessing? I actually like the concept of this song. The drums could use work.
12. Akayz & Pepin - Boxed On Saturday
More badly recorded guitar. I do kind of like the way it pans left and right. Beatboxing isn't terribly mixed. I hate the vocals. I hate hate hate the vocals. I don't know what you were going for, but it sounds like nickelback and slipknot had a freak baby and it came out whispering "kill me."
13. Pepin - Smarked
The vocals are too quiet, but that's actually a good thing because if they were any louder i would be reaching for the "nuke from orbit" button. Two chords over and over again. Over and over and over again. BOOOORRRRINNGNGGGGG. Instruments aren't too poorly mixed.
Overall
Pretty bad. I can respect that you guys are releasing music, but it could use alot of polishing. The mixing is poorly done, most of the tracks could have used alot more work put into them. I give it a D-. Which is almost passing.
Nice review.
Thanks for compliments to my work. :buddy:

You should be more prominent in the music section.
I only come here when reddit is down.
I only come here when reddit is down.
It's really worth being a part of the music section. You can't just say "This is a bit avant-garde jazz" and get away with it. :v:
No flacs, what is this shit?

Bandcamp has a flac download.
When is the next Facepunch VA ?
I wanna contribute :V:

It's at the beginning stage still, although 7 pages of discussion have already been gone through.
Hakita's music IS in MIDI. All of them. It's his ~style~.
It's another style of music, I don't see why people have to complain. He is awesome at it anyway.
But I'm no musician so I can't comment. :smug:

~style~ or defense mechanism?

What's wrong with MIDI music?
I personally thought it was great composition.
Better than mine anyway.
What's wrong with MIDI music?

Sounds bad?
well that's your opinion
I personally like MIDI music, I find it charming.
What's wrong with MIDI music?
nothing
but he should take the time to go further and really explore the sounds
MIDI is awful, it's dull, inexpressive, and super cheesy
There's nothing wrong with using MIDI for compositions, but it sounds bad when you just save it as a .MID file and play it back. Better instrument voices would have made it sound much better.
Sounds bad?
If knew something about what sounds good, you'd be a music section regular. :smug:

I do agree with experimenting but Midi is nice.
I come to this thread just to see a page of people fighting over the fact that I prefer the MIDI sound over a soundfont.
Huh.

Midi is a viable tool for musical expression, forget these other fools. :smug:
