This can actually happen... Too bad noone would want anything to do with it
it wouldn't last an hour before everyone got sick of staring at their feet
did i forget to mention you have horrible grammar and you capitalize unnecessary words [editline]6th August 2011[/editline] hence why i think you're 12 years old with no job experience.
Figures, i got a C in English last semester, although i can assure you i'm not twelve.
-snip-.
Solar isn't too effective
Aware, i'm pretty sure it operates at around 30% of what i could be producing at the current time.
I've had a few jobs, My boss's were dicks, i barely got payed minimum wage. So i quit.
So you were a prostitute?
Didn't some guy do this in the 80's in Kirtibati invaded him?
Yea, it was a millionaire who raised a reef to establish his own micro nation, after it was established, Tonga swiftly took it over, planted the flag into the ground and declared it to be the territory of Tonga, some dude then played the Tonga national anthem and the other soldiers chased the millionaire away. I was just thinking this would be better if it was some large, uninhabited island for sale in the great lakes of Canada, no independence but it's dirt cheap and the huntings good.
Wow, I can see why so many people jumped ship to SA, everybody on the first page is being a dick. Anyways, I call being the doctor!
You sure you're ready for that? Have you seen the FP medical thread lately? It's 90% hypochondriacs and the other 10% are people who have rectal bleeding because they shoved objects that they shouldn't have up there.
Or maybe they jumped ship to SA because it is a forum with more intelligence and better content.
You know reading and actively posting in E/N bullshit threads is actually worse
we must be a hunter-gatherer society. find us an with island things to hunt and gather!
problem is 95% of peoples skill would be churning butter or something
I remember a similar thread about Facepunch taking over a small nation. Hilarity was had.
The $125,000 is the price for a lot of the development on the island, not the island itself.
Which one?
We should declare war on the United Nations' members. See what happens.
Oh yeah, the Fiji one, that was an example, i didn't really research it. [editline]6th August 2011[/editline]
We should declare war on the United Nations' members. See what happens.
THIS.
Which one?
Whichever of these is for grabs, I assume.
We should live off the land like bear grills. Drink up boys
an island of 12 year old boys, this is the best idea.
Lord of the Flies
Island in Florida for $55k. That's actually not outrageous at all.
Even if the island itself was for sale, you're proposing that over fifteen thousand people settle an area of 42 acres. My yard is about ten acres, and I can't imagine more than 20 people even attempting to colonize that space. Then factor in the need for water and waste treatment. I don't see any significant source of fresh water on that map, so you'll need a plant to desalinize seawater, plus a system to distribute it. Fifteen thousand people also produce a lot of crap, so you'll need a way to get that off the island as well as keeping if all out of are water supply. Both of those systems will require power, so you'll need a power station. Solar isn't a viable option because you simply won't have enough space. Fossil fuels would cost a large fortune to import, so those are out. Wind turbines would probably also fail to supply enough power, so you're left with two options: nuclear, which is expensive and requires space, or wiring power in from elsewhere, also expensive, if even possible. You'll also need a larger port to handle the industrial equipment required to build all of that. All of that will be obscenely expensive, so you'd better increase the donation to something closer to $1,000. So, you've made yourself a lovely, bankrupt little [del]cattle farm[/del] nation with no source of future income. Enjoy it before you all die of [obscure disease previously eradicated by basic sanitation].
One word, up. We should build sky high apartment complexes

Like, even that "No fun allowed" picture wouldn't do you justice.
One word, up. We should build sky high apartment complexes
High rises are expensive, better raise the donation again. Although I suppose it's not an altogether bad idea; infrastructure could be built at the base of the tower, with housing higher up.

Dont worry guys, Ive been making Solar cells, I think we can have Solar Powered island... But then the Greenies will be all over us!
I will be in charge of skating every day and not giving a fuck, and generally getting gnarly every day of the week.
We could borrow a few trillion like the US does. PROBLEM SOLVED.
BRILLIANT. Heck, with that much green paper we could buy most if not all of Africa :v:
http://www.privateislandsonline.com/hicksisland.htm Much better idea, Cheaper and it comes with a Runway and a weekly plane that comes and picks up mail, And only four people live on it already, We will buy it, One house at a time.
