We can start with the developed parts and then buy the countries in between to connect them.

Where would the garbage dump/sewage plant be?
Where would the garbage dump/sewage plant be?
Best plan IMO would be to burn it for power.

I wasn't aware that human excrement could be recycled for fuel.
This would be sweet.
Even if the island itself was for sale, you're proposing that over fifteen thousand people settle an area of 42 acres. My yard is about ten acres, and I can't imagine more than 20 people even attempting to colonize that space.
Then factor in the need for water and waste treatment. I don't see any significant source of fresh water on that map, so you'll need a plant to desalinize seawater, plus a system to distribute it. Fifteen thousand people also produce a lot of crap, so you'll need a way to get that off the island as well as keeping if all out of are water supply. Both of those systems will require power, so you'll need a power station. Solar isn't a viable option because you simply won't have enough space. Fossil fuels would cost a large fortune to import, so those are out. Wind turbines would probably also fail to supply enough power, so you're left with two options: nuclear, which is expensive and requires space, or wiring power in from elsewhere, also expensive, if even possible. You'll also need a larger port to handle the industrial equipment required to build all of that.
All of that will be obscenely expensive, so you'd better increase the donation to something closer to $1,000.
So, you've made yourself a lovely, bankrupt little [del]cattle farm[/del] nation with no source of future income. Enjoy it before you all die of [obscure disease previously eradicated by basic sanitation].
You failed to read my posts. Do your realize that not every single facepunch member wants to move to a Island, i highly doubt all 15,00, fuck, even 1,00 will want to move. Shit in the Ocean, shit in the ground. That's where our waste goes anyways, Biofuel/biogas is perfect for the Filipino environment, there are many wells on the island, FRESH WATER WELLS. Crap, even human crap s fantastic Biogas fuel. Biogas burns clean as fuck, it's a really good fuel source, couple that with Solar and wind, You can power quite a few people. Biogas can also be used with stoves. Lastly, you're retarded, as the island in question is 100 Acres, the prime agricultural land is 49 acres, dipshit.

Good way to get Independence, claim to be some study seeing if a country can exist on green power, do the study, never give land back.
Pinoy shout out.

can i live on your island
Why not. One small problem though.
I don't own it.
[editline]6th August 2011[/editline]
Feel free to squat though.
Why buy an island when we could just invade one?
OP
I heard about this guy named Jamie Mantzel who was planning something like this. He hasn't gotten to it yet, but the group he has considered are mostly trades people, like farmers and mechanics and such. I think if you had farmers and mechanics you'd be set, all you would need is to import metal, because everything else (wood, food, power) can be farmed. Metal could be used for whatever power sources, like steam power (wood fired, basically never can run out if you use it well) or farming tools. And buying used metal can be extremely cheap if you do it right. Tbh, I think it's a fantastic idea and if you ever get something set up I'd like to hear about it

Because all 15000 members are active, able to, and want to go. I see the number whittling down to at most 150. Water treatment? No problem, stills are easy as shit. And you can recycle feces, (before you say "your farms will smell like shit and cause diseases", it's not like the farms will be made completely out of shit, the smell will be diluted in earth). What we don't recycle we can throw into a latrine, or hey, the ocean.
As said before, I call being the towns local batman. Here's some of my previous work:

Why is this such a big fucking deal?
Even funnier when you have no laws and someone goes on rampage.
Say, Can I come?
It's odd, i just realized that settling in the Philipines is a terrible idea, as it is a really dangerous part of the world atm, if your not Filipino, stay the fuck away, so lets buy land in the Remote Alaskan wilderness then shall we? We shall pan gold for moniez.
But where would we go poo poo :(
In a bucket, in a ditch, in a pit, where ever it is, it won't be like sitting on the throne like we do in First world countries.
But how will we increase the population?
FP is a cockfest.
