The Giant Bomb Thread V2: It's a website! About video games!

I think Sunshine's controls are excellent. For me, it set the standard for how 3D platformers should control. It's snappy, responsive, and precise. I actually don't like how heavy Mario 64 feels in comparison. That said, I haven't played Mario 64 or Sunshine since either of them came out, so there might be bigger problems with Sunshine that I just don't remember.
On the subject of Giant Bomb opinions, I strongly disagree with Jeff's (and Brad's to a lesser extent) hate for Majora's Mask. I get that some people don't like the time mechanic, but the way that he shits on the game any chance he gets was the moment when I started taking everything Jeff says with a grain of salt when it comes to what's good in games. I like Jeff a lot because he's been in the business for a long time and so he's seen some shit. There's so many great anecdotes that come from that, as well as pseudo-inside knowledge. That said, I disagree with him about as much as I agree with him when it comes to actual games.
Unlike Sunshine though, I actually only played through and finished Majora's Mask pretty recently. While I did play it as a kid, I never got very far with it. About a year ago I decided to finally play through it proper and finish it and man, was it great. The game has a lot of problems admittedly, but no other game nails its atmosphere the way Majora's Mask does. There's such an amazing sense of dread to everything that surrounds it. It's so good.

It's just a question of taste. People like to prattle on about objectivity when it comes to game critiquing, but it is entirely possible (and justifiable) to dislike a game that is universally acclaimed.
I happen to mostly agree with Jeff on the N64 Zelda games. Neither hooked me at all past the first few hours, and compared to the other entries in the series that I've played (both pre and post-N64) I find them to be clunky, drab, slow, and above all just kind of boring. This is my experience with the 3DS versions no less.
I do appreciate these games on some level: Ocarina of Time was revolutionary at the time with the systems it introduced into a full 3D game on consoles; Majora's Mask has an amazing atmosphere, like you said, and it's short development time was incredibly impressive.
At the end of the day, though, I would still much rather play almost any other game in the series than either of those.
Cool I felt like the West Coast crew needed someone else.

More importantly Jason can finally relax and we can get into a more normal groove for video content. It's been pretty slapdash since Drew left.
We can finally get more ranking of fighters.
Oh my god

Man, Drew really is raking in those meme dollars.
I miss Drew so much
So catching up on the GOTY deliberations.
Can we re-open the hottest mess category with the best world category as a nomination?
Yeah, that category was rough.
I was 100% in tune with Jeff's frustration.
Or keep Best World for whatever fucked up definition Brad keeps on coming up with to exclude games he doesn't like and then add a new Best WOOOORLD category for what people actually thought Best World would be
As a premium member they should release a version that just has Brad edited out. I was done listening to him suck Destinys cock back when the first game came out and I don't want to hear it again here.
Abby shittalked Nier's soundtrack as "Generic RPG".
Get this fucking person out
Heres a fun drinking game: take a shot every time abby says something is very good or fun. I'm halfway through day 2 and Abby is really giving me a headache. She can't argue for shit and seems to not know a lot about some of these games.
I think most of them are arguing fine, but it seems like Abby hasn't understood the whole "letting some things go" because you can't be pleased in every category. Pyre and the best looking game award come to mind. Also she kept interrupting Alex but no one once interrupted her.
It'll be better next year, just inexperienced with how goty goes I think

but mummy tho
Also feel bad for Alex that fire pro wrestling isn't allowed but PUBG is.
Fire pro wrestling left early access on December 18th. PUBG left early access December 20th :~(

These discussions happened late November, PUBG announced its 'release' while fire pro had not so they couldn't be sure.
Personally I feel slapping a 1.0 on pubg doesn't make it a finished game in any respect either but they have their bespoke rules to keep things in order.

Oh so she's Dan's level of articulacy and rhetoric? i.e. An entertaining person for video content but offers nothing in discussion and constructive criticism and debate, and is about as thoughtful as a stapler? I'm just confirming since I have no intention of subjecting myself to another GOTY podcast after how god awful 2015's was.
abby's taste in video games comes down to
"it's very good" or "i hate it even though i haven't played it"
also interested in knowing why jeff didn't put horizon in hist top 10 list, considering he gave it a 5/5 in the review.

Maybe he can recognize it as a fantastic game but it just didn't connect with him enough to be on his list of games he liked from the year.

We all know best world this year was Gravity Rush 2 :boxhide: :boxhide: :boxhide:
>PUBG
OK, when does the real GotY list go up?
[sp]Love the specials this year, though[/sp]
I can't believe they nominated the final battle in Destiny 2 for best moment, but not the opening sequence.
Wait? They fucking nominated the boring final boss? What? At least the shitfest that was the final encounter in TNC was passable and actually had gameplay other than run to glowing vent then shoot
