My parents smoke like chimneys and it makes the whole place smell like shit.
Definitely should be illegal.
So the government can be a nanny state but only in your favor
You prefer a nanny state when it's on the subject of something you dislike.
If it's something you like then you're all up in arms.
I'm sorry but the world is not black and white
Guns which are usually locked up or out of reach of kids and rarely used around them is different from presenting a health risk to them by smoking in the same area
Guns and smoking are two very different issues, just because we allow one but not the other does not make us hypocrites.
I think yes, and I'm not a smoker and none of my family is. The way I see it though is you are neglecting your responsibility as a parent by smoking around your childeren anyway. It's irresponsible.
So the government can be a nanny state but only in your favor
that's one hell of a straw man
I don't smoke but they should be able to smoke in their homes. I just think that smokers should think about only smoking in the garden or something.
no. if i want to fucking smoke in my own house i will.
Yes. (I don't smoke)
Or they should atleast have to do it standing at a open door or something.
Also in cars they should have to open the window if they have kids in the car.
I sometimes get a lift to college from my friends dad and everytime we go there he smokes about 3 cigarettes in the car and doesn't even open the window.
no. if i want to fucking smoke in my own house i will.
Suicide's fine. Murder isn't.
Honestly.
Religion, pets, and smoking bring out Facepunch's most irrational side.
People what smoke in their house are fools regardless of who else is in it. It lowers the value of the house significantly, same with cars.
They can't check if pedophiles are fucking their kids in their houses either. It's still illegal because it harms the kids.
I knew someone would come up with that.
Are you implying that these people want to bugger there kids with cigerettes?
Fatty foods damage kids should it be illegal to feed your kids chicken dippers or crisps.
T.V could be a terrible influence on children, should that be banned from homes with kids?
You sound just like Cocteau from Demolition Man. You want everyone to be well and eat at Taco Bell, you make me sick.
i think it should if the kids are under 18
a couple of years ago when i was about 16 i was freinds with a guy whos mother smoked about 30 a day mostly in the house when my mate was there he eventually got broncitus (did i spell it right) and he used to cough up vomit now and then.
his mum still smokes
Depends, if they smoke in the kitchen while the kid is in another room, and they windows are open, not really that big of a deal
This.
Smoking in this manner is different from blowing smoke into a baby's crib.
All of you who are saying it's okay in a privately owned house are stupid.
"I guess it's okay for my to build a methamphetamine lab in my kitchen because it's private, or growing weed in my attic! Anything else that I do IN my house is okay too no matter how dangerous it is to me or the people around me." :downs:
And to the gun one
Should guns in houses with kids be illegal?
Horrible argument, the gun just being there is not really a harm, just like cigarettes just being there is no harm. We are talking about the actual smoking of the cigarette, not the presence of the cigarette itself, comparable to the firing of a gun, not the gun being there.
So you really should have asked "Should firing guns in houses with kids be illegal?" Which would be almost as stupid as what you actually said.
"Anything else that I do IN my house is okay too no matter how dangerous it is to me."
Yes.
"or the people around me." :downs:
No.

If you own the fucking house you should be able to do what you want with a legal drug.
Unlike cars where it's illegal to smoke with kids in many places, houses can be easily ventilated. (Studies show that smoking in a car even with the windows open doesn't do much) We have HEPA filters that fit into portable air purifiers these days, buy one of those and keep it in the room where you smoke and your kids will be fine.
Banning it in private residences is a slippery slope.
And don't argue for the kid's safety, there is a lot of shit in every house that can hurt kids. The oven, the wood stove, the furnace, high shelves, stairs, tools in the garage, etc. The latter is especially the case if there's some kind of workshop in the garage. The fumes that come from paint and welding and shit can be much more dangerous than smoking.

Fatty foods and TV aren't anywhere near as harmful, though. You can have both in moderation without any ill effect. The nature of smoking is totally different, since people smoke 10 to 30 a day. It's like feeding a kid fast food for every meal, and every rational person would consider that child abuse. So why isn't subjecting your kid to a toxic environment everyday?
Yep, really bad for the kids health.
No, as long as it's a privately owned household.
i can't say yes or no, for this is an odd topic here.
my parents have never smoked, and yet my sister is already a compulsive smoker.
i think it's more "have a smoking room in your house" than "ban smoking in houses now"

Cigarettes should not be legal. :colbert:
Fuck da police 420 erryday
Lets make all household knives dull and everything pointy must have a cork at the end of it for the children. And if you fail to abide by these rules you shall be sent to the best penitentiary this country has to offer.

Second hand smoke tears families apart!

You can control knives and the such much more than you can fluids floating around in the air.
Dude guys I'm too lazy to watch what my kids do or even care about what I do so lets make a law preventing it!
No. You're damaging your kids lungs before they even get a chance, plus it promotes smoking which is also bad in my opinion.
You can control knives and the such much more than you can fluids floating around in the air.
You're exposed to all sorts of toxic chemicals at your fucking doorstep.

and neither is strawman

"There may be toxic chemicals in the things inside your home, so why bother trying to minimize it"
