Is there anything else? Seriously.
You can get a diesel, it gets very decent gas mileage for a truck. It's a Hilux, it can take knocks, it's easy to maintain, and it's reliable.
yes there is stop sucking top gears dick thats not even the model they used but anyway although these arent trucks : pre-2000: nissan patrol, pathfinder, navara; toyota landcruiser; holden/isuzu rodeo
if you want something that wont fall apart do not buy american "trucks"
and get a diesel
Get a van with tinted windows and write 'FREE CANDY' on the side.
And then give away free candy!

I own one you fucking idiot. Me and my dad were looking for a good truck that would be reliable, serviceable anywhere in the world, good mileage, comfortable, decently priced. You know what fits that catergory? A fucking Hilux. And no, it won't fall apart.
Don't go mouthing off "STOP SUCKING DICK LOLOL" when you don't even know what the fuck you're talking about.

Nothing beats a good old Ute. :)
But if you're looking for a decent truck, go for a Hilux for sure honestly those things can take the biggest beating.
OP, you're not going to be a parking lot queen are you?
Do you actually need a truck to haul stuff, or just to look cool?
No I'm not going to be a "parking lot queen". I will haul stuff at times, and I will most definitely use the bed for moving things, but I want a 4-door because I will most likely be moving people as much as I will move other things. (If that makes sense... It did to me.)
Well I just bought a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport (which has a crew cab) and i'm loving it. Then again, you haven't really given us a price range so this is probably out of reach. Nice truck anyways.

who doesn't love heated / air conditioned seats, sirius XM built in to the touch screen, and a sun roof? and there's massive amounts of room in the cab, it's brilliant
How much is it? I may have enough...
Since OP is American, he should get a Tacoma or a Tundra.
Toyota Hilux,

wow why does everyone get so angry
I agree with the Hilux option. Here are some more options:
Nissan Pathfinder

Mitsubishi L-200 (IMO ugly as fuck, the previous gen was more beautiful)

Because you cannot stop trolling any fucking thread about cars.
In my experience, Fords seem to ride really rough. And their new diesels are atrocious. The stupid second stage turbo is a POS. My friend has one in his truck, and it's given him nothing but trouble.
Never really drove a newer Chev though.
I always find that Fords ride smoother, but it's true that most of the new ones aren't built too well and cause a lot of problems.
OP, get a 1994-2000 Dodge Ram with the cummins diesel, or a 1995-2001 Ford F250 with the 7.3l diesel. Both of these trucks can be found fairly cheap and last extremely long times. You will get tired of driving the same truck well before the truck dies.
If you need a midsize truck, something like a Dodge Dakota, Ford Ranger, or Chevy s10 is what you should get. I don't know where you are, but around where I am foreign car parts (Toyota, Nissan, Subaru, etc) are very expensive, and there aren't any places that work on them.

I don't need a super heavy duty truck, just something that can pull its own weight, and has a big enough cab to comfortably fit more than 2 people. I was looking at the Chevy Avalanche, but I heard that it breaks down a lot. Also, the Ford Escape was on my 'look' list. I haven't been much of a fan of the Ford Rangers (could never tell you why though, for I don't know why myself. I'll check out your other midsize trucks though.
I don't want to buy foreign anyways, both to try and help the economy here, and because that's how my family has always done it.

7.3L PSD and 5.9L Cummins are not that cheap. These trucks last forever and are highly sought after and make them very expensive (even used). But if you do get a Cummins, get a manual since the Mopar auto tranny is shit.
"Go see Tom"
Why do Americans like pickup trucks so much.
What would you use it for??
Why do Americans like pickup trucks so much.

My dad has a Ford F-150, and he doesn't "need" it for his job, but it's still really useful.
Where I live, it's really snowy in the winter. A 4x4 pickup is great in snow and on bad roads. When you need to drive 150+ miles a week to and from work on snowy roads, a pickup is great to have.
We have a boat that we need to tow around a few times a year. V8 pickups can tow well.
We have an old house, so we make frequent trips to the home improvement store 30 miles away. Pickups are great for hauling shit.
Our recycling service isn't curbside; instead, we go to a dump a few miles away. With a pickup, we can just toss a few bags in the back of the truck and head out.
They're also really fucking huge on the inside, which is great for a 6'7" guy like my dad.
Sure, there are some trucks that never leave the suburbs where the owners live. Fuck those people; they give a bad name to pickup owners.
I love how if it's American it's automatically shit, my 1989 jeep has never had any problems and it has 328,000 Miles on it. and before I got it, I drove a toyota and it couldn't go 2 miles without shutting off or leaking something. for that reason I tend to stay away from asian cars.
Op, here's a list of good trucks for you, all for $5000 or less.

Do what this man says, if you can afford a Hilux get one. I know you said you want American but really these things with a diesel has good MPG for a truck. You will have a hard job looking fro a decent truck with a powerful engine and high MPG, unless you strip it out and drive it around everywhere in top gear you aren't going to get great MPG, especially with a petrol.
are you a construction worker or what?
No. I just end up moving a lot of stuff for my dad anyways so why not get something that can hold more than moms crappy Toyota Corolla.
Lol no.
It's incredibly nippy. Thats coming from someone who drives his dad's (thanks deceased uncle robert) Ferrari round the track quite a bit.

I highly doubt the OP NEEDS a truck.
His needs basically point him towards a nissan saloon.
Ford Bronco go go go

Yeah I don't really need one, but it would be much more convenient.
