Because it's always 1989 is Serbia.
Yugo wars were culmination of long ethnic hatred between several smaller nations. Once Tito died there was nobody left to control people and tension.
Whole Yugoslavia was offered to join EU before the war, but the war was already arranged (aka Bosnia was to be split up between Serbia and Croatia via Karadjordjevo agreement) and people were poor and desperate enough to fall into right wing nationalism. Everyone did exactly what war profiters wanted them to do. Literally every side is to blame for war (except civilians) since everyone hated each other's guts, but Serbians are mostly blamed today since demonization and propaganda was pretty strong. I mean, if you complain about one side's acts, it's pretty unfair and ignorant to ignore the other side's wrongdoings.
Again, nobody was innocent in that war.

My history classes were kind of biased here - they mentioned nothing of Slovenia's wrongdoings. Can you give some examples here?
like another person said, read about the bosnian wars. after yugoslavia broke up basically the serbian population in bosnia and herzogovina began taking control of large parts of the country with support from the serbian government interested in exercising authority over these areas. the bosnian population were largely muslim, and serbians were largely orthodox, so this lead to an ethnic and religious conflict. where the serbians had majority population, they would often take muslims and bosnians and basically slaughter, rape, and imprison them.
serbians thought of the muslim bosniaks as "turks" and called them "kebabs". hence where "remove kebab" comes from, since during the course of the war systematic efforts were made by serbian forces to destroy or remove the muslim bosniak populations that originally lived there. the whole "give us our clay" comes from the serbian government believing that they had sovereignty over the regions of bosnia where serbians had a majority.
at least that's my understanding. it's a bit more complex and it also involved croatia trying to expand its borders. but it's the basic historical context of the "remove kebab" meme.
[editline]12th November 2013[/editline]
90% of all war crimes committed were committed by the serbian forces against bosnians. the serbians were literally carrying out a genocide against the bosnian people.
to say that one side is not disproportionately responsible is just insane.
Ah thanks, I knew what the Bosnian wars were about and so forth, I just didn't know that the Serbians called the Bosniaks "kebabs" so that was a bit confusing to me.
