Yeah it can lessen some of the bomb shells the series drops later, I would save it until the end or season 4.
The beginning helped people who weren't familiar to B5 when it moved to TNT for it's final season.
I'd say Bab5 is probably my favorite Sci Fi series. With TNG as a close second.
The Londo and G'Kar arcs are just fantastic.
My dad was the producer for seasons 1-4. You can see his name in the end credits of every episode, George Johnsen.

Every episode continues the story. Only 1 episode seems like it doesn't but a side plot in that episode is brought up later. Every episode of B5 is important
