lol, my alpha base is epic sauce. :v: Has a moat, which goes down, but creeps can't get in, however I can kill them. Epic sauce. :smile: With, a tunnel that goes (you know, 2x2 down) from the highest mountain on the map all the way down to the bottom where you fall off, on top however I have a giant wall on the mountain with another base. :v: Yes, I have four bases (a base at the bottom of the map, the very top, by the sea, and half way up the mountain in a small opening. :gonk:

I found an Enormous cave system. And some weird red ore.
And I made a farm^^
My base is not so epic.
It's on a small island just off the shore of the main island. It's made entirely of sand (apart from my basement/mining area). The Walls are 2 blocks high so no creep can get in without busting a wall down, and nothing can jump out without busting a wall down (when i want to get in and out, i bust a wall down and fix it :v:)
I then have a small wooden hut in the centre with empty windows (i have yet to find Lava to make glass).
I have Torches EVERYWHERE all over my island so it's always light.
And then i have small camps (failed or otherwise) everywhere all over the main island, when i ventured in too far and couldn't get back to my island. Most have been demolished to get materials back.
On an unrelated note, i have over 480 Blocks of sand because of my island :v:
I wish i could get minecraft so i could play infdev :frown:
i have figured out a way to get infinite Glass (well, not infinite).
Get a furnace, put coal in the bottom and sand on the top.
then take the Coal out Straight away and voila. You get the glass from the sand, and you don't lose and coal :D
...
You do realise it still removes one coal from the pile you shoved in? :v:

The system works like this:
1 coal = like a few minutes or so of fire
so, basically, when you put in a pile of 10 coal, it removes one coal time after time.
