How do you know he was paid for a last minute volunteer fill in performance? On a side note, why is it that I see you bitching about EDM in any thread that mentions it?
how do you know he wasn't paid, and how do you know it was volunteer? I know what kind of person Deadmau5 is, if there wasn't money in it he wouldn't have done it I bitch about EDM in every thread that mentions it because it is an awful scene, awful music, awful people, awful fans :~)
You know, to some extent, he's actually quoting Deadmau5 himself... I feel like a lot of people didn't get that
I feel like a lot of people don't really know what is actually entailed in djing. Just because deadmau5 says its easy, doesn't mean it is. First of all, he plays house music. Literally the most simplistic type of music to mix in the world, beatmatching software or not. Its just plain fucking easy. If you truly think it's easy, i implore you to take it up for a little while and experience it for yourself. And I'm not talking about laptop djing. I'm talking about using either vinyls or CDJs, without sync turned out. I've been playing shows for over 2 years and i still mess up sometimes. Fun fact as well, deadmau5 has a tattoo on his wrist that reads "FAIL" because when he used to ACTUALLY dj he would mess up, and instead of shrugging his shoulders to the crowd he would hold his arm up and show his FAIL tattoo to the crowd. And this is the guy that spins the EASIEST style of electronic music; house. Not to mention that all these "EDM" djs only ever play one track into another and never even try to mix multiple tracks together. Complete bullshit. TL;DR watch this shit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVawgJy_VZ8 Andy C is a thousand times better a dj than these EDM fools.
I love how the spectators don't even give a shit. They like, completely transcended into another world and are completely oblivious to everything. They're like dancing zombies or something.
that's what edm shows are man. how on point ahah
Drugs.
If they're EDM artists, what exactly do you think "live" means, other than them being there and playing music tracks?
As in actually DJing live instead of playing a pre-recorded set. It's about reading the crowd and playing what you think they would like, which you can't do if you pre-record it.
As in actually DJing live instead of playing a pre-recorded set. It's about reading the crowd and playing what you think they would like, which you can't do if you pre-record it.
Technically live sets can be prerehearsed. In electronic music, a live set differs from a DJ set in the way where in a dj set, you are just playing whole songs and mixing them with each other. In live sets, its more about having the root files of each song, and swapping out each layer of the song in real time, rather than mixing entire tracks into each other. Crowd reading is something completely separate from that, and can be done in both live sets and dj sets. Look into Ableton live performance for a more in depth look into "live sets".

You made the claim first... Also please tell me more about how good of friends you and Deadmau5 are.
how does that change anything? he is paid either way?
yeh you're right he's great at making really popular music but he should just give it all away for free and when he gets asked to play some of the biggest shows in the world he should say "no thanks"
you're all completely missing my point lol i'm saying that deadmau5 is a hypocrite because he claims to be against commercial edm but will happily play at ultra for big money
yeh you're right he's great at making really popular music but he should just give it all away for free and when he gets asked to play some of the biggest shows in the world he should say "no thanks"
that's not what i'm saying???

Mcmangos made that? He was a really popular YTPMV user but his account was suspended sadly :( Glad to see he's still around and doing the usual fun stuff.
Deadmau5 is a cool guy, very down to Earth, though he can be blunt about things. Love his music too, I'd go see him live if I could.
If they're EDM artists, what exactly do you think "live" means, other than them being there and playing music tracks?
The term LIVE in the DJ world means that the DJ doesnt play a regular set. A regular set is the DJ beatmatching selected tracks on a CDJ2000+DJM900 DJ set, which is the club/festival standard setup. When an DJ is on the line-up with LIVE behind it's name, then the DJ plays a set with LIVE instruments. That can be a laptop, a MIDI keyboard in which the artists can play melody's live, a padcontrol, or any other digital instrument. But most of the time when a DJ is playing a LIVE set, there is a set playing from an audio source (most of the time a CDJ playing a 30 minute prerecorded track) and other audio source(s) which can be controlled live with the instruments. They do this, because the LIVE instruments aren't 100% reliable, so if anything goes wrong, the prerecorded track takes over, so you want have any disruptions. But lately most DJ's just play the prerecorded track and act like they are doing something live, because they know it's a big risk to do everything live.
10 hours to prepare a set where all the artist has to do is press spacebar on a macbook
*looks at username* *presses irony button* [editline]30th March 2014[/editline]
Here's the soundcloud for the remix He then played a mix of levels right after :v: (@ 4:10)
Which is pretty much the most played out song you could have picked, made both EDG and Pitchfork's "what not to play during a set, ever" list. p good troll, 7/10
I love how the spectators don't even give a shit. They like, completely transcended into another world and are completely oblivious to everything. They're like dancing zombies or something.
That's because they're most likely off their nuts on eckies.
90% of the ''EDM'' artists who proclaim they perform LIVE are liars. Most of it is prerecorded.
Prerecorded in a sense. Playing live electronic music is about manipulating the tracks that are playing simultaneously, and that requires a good ear and a great deal of skill. Here's a proper electronic musician at work. Wish I had a 32 channel mixer like that! [editline]30th March 2014[/editline] Moar, like so:
Thats a korg ms-20 mini in the second video. I've got one of those. Absolutely beautiful timbres when you use those patch cables.
guys, music performances are about the fucking experience, I'd bet almost everyone bitching has NEVER been to a good show.
guys, music performances are about the fucking experience, I'd bet almost everyone bitching has NEVER been to a good show.
that's exactly the thing. What would it be worth going to some random festival if they're just going to plug in an ipod and play the music loud for you? You can do that at home, and beer won't cost you $8 a cup there. It's about the hype put on by the artist themselves, even if they're not doing anything in particular to the music itself. People bitch about electronic artists 'just having to push a button' at a show but what about that whole "actually making the song" part anyway

God damned it, all these videos are constantly being taken down by ultra.
Thats a korg ms-20 mini in the second video. I've got one of those. Absolutely beautiful timbres when you use those patch cables.
Judging by the size of the keys (+ the missing key) and the jacks, I'd say that's an original full sized MS-20. That's neat, I have an SH-101 (other synth in the video). Are you going to get the new Korg Arp Odyssey? It would compliment your MS-20 Mini very well.
Im not really into dubstep electronic dance music but id love to go to one of those shows. It looks fun. Even though im kinda in that crowd of people that thinks that type of music is just pushing buttons, somebody pushes those buttons and makes some cool music.
Video was blocked. God thanks.
because they keep going down. starts at 1:20

Playing it back is simply pushing buttons, however it does takes musical talent to produce a catchy song in a studio. You obviously have not seen how EDM is made, it varies person-to-person, Martin Garrix is a faggot and just uses Vengeance Essentials shit and has almost no talent, Deadmau5 actually sits in his studio for half a day cranking out tunes and making his own samples. You'd be ignorant and insanely naive to think it's "just pushing buttons" making good songs requires musical talent, also, remember popular =/= good. Don't even know why Animals is popular though, it's barely even catchy. Also it's called Big Room House.
The majority of electronic artists I listen perform their music live, they get a live drummer and/or a guitarist, and play along on the keyboards or something So yeah, like Dai said, I don't want to pay a lot of money to go to a festival/concert and see them play some prerecorded songs, I can do that at home
