This honestly feels like just another The Lost World to me, where it'll be very hit or miss depending on the scene. As much as I'm a huge nerd for the Jurassic movies, I don't feel as hyped for this as I was Jurassic World.
Jurassic Park is my favorite movie of all time so hell yeah I'm ready for some more Jurassic World nonsense. I watch for the dinosaurs and the cool action. I haven't expected a decent story out of any of them following the first movie lol. Nice to see a little practical effect raptor in there too.
There was also an element in the books that had a blink and you'll miss it reference in the movies that were actually more important and a much better control for the dinosaurs - an inbuilt lysine deficiency, so in the wild, the animals wouldn't be able to survive beyond a point. This was the then set up towards the end of the Lost World book with [sp]sightings of humongous beasts, likely the dinosaurs, in the dense forests of South America, where they were specifically ravaging fields of beans, rich in lysine, which indicates that the dinos cottoned onto this strategy to keep themselves alive.[/sp] I'm a huge Crichton fan (though I don't like his Climate change denialist views that he had towards the end of his life). Supposedly, he did have a plan to write a short story that followed LW centered around a bunch of people (supposedly a team from a rival biotech firm) going into the jungle to document this, in the style of his other book, Congo. Never did happen, though.
This is a great example of hubris by the scientists in the book. The reason being they were so certain that a lysine deficiency would be a good piece of insurance, when in real life all animals cannot make their own lysine and they get on fine.

It was a failsafe built in by Dr. Wu and the plan was that the animals, without lysine, would just lapse into a coma and die. But, well, life finds a way. :v:
